The Purple Cow is my favorite because there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of rhyme or reason for what's in the shop, but the randomness makes sense once you're in there! A few of the Purple Cow's specialties include: - A huge collection of vintage postcards, kept in old library card catalog drawers. I love to sift through them and see what vacation spots used to look like. And it's fun to read the used ones...see what kinds of messages people used to send to loved ones back in the day. - Antique hardware. If you're in the market for hooks, pulls or doorknobs, this might be the place for you. They usually don't come in sets, so if you like an eclectic aesthetic, that's a perfect place to purchase items for your house. - Signs. There's a huge, neon parrot sign that I inquired about. It's not for sale, but most of the signs are. There's old street signs, signs advertising products and a random arrow that directs people to the restroom. - There's also a large bookshelf of sports memorabilia near the register. Personally, sports anything doesn't pique my interest. But my boyfriend, who's an avid baseball card collector, said that the collection was pretty interesting. On my first visit, I purchased a framed "paint by numbers" of a ship at sea for our new apartment. It cost $5 and hangs on the wall next to a framed President Garfield on our entry room wall. If that gives you any indication of what kinds of antiques I'm into, then you'll understand why I love the Purple Cow.

The shop specifically caters to sized XL-4XL bodies. Amongst other consignment/thrift shops in the STL area, this place is a true gem for larger bodies. We had time to cull through the racks of clothing and came away with some fantastic treasures. The co-owners were helpful and knowledgeable. Never mind each trip out of the dressing room was treated like a cat walk in Milan. Prices are comparable to the average consignment store in the STL area. During my…read morevisit, the employee at the front counter appeared visibly agitated and huffy while I picked out / sorted through items I intended to purchase, which made the interaction unpleasant (to put it mildly). There were several moments where I wanted to just say never mind & leave, which in hindsight I should have. She hovered over me to the point that it felt like she was breathing down my neck. There were no other customers at the counter at the time and the shop was slow so the hostile attitude was completely uncalled for. I like to look at all of my options before making a purchase and some of the items were rings that needed to be tried on for fit. After leaving, I noticed that I'd been charged for an item that was not included in the bag. I returned the following day to resolve the issue with the manager. The interaction became unprofessional (again!) when the same employee made comments referencing my visit the day prior and described my transaction as a "disaster" to another employee in front of me. Given that I had made a substantial purchase, I was genuinely surprised by how openly rude she was. Overall, the selection here is decent and everyone else I interacted with was helpful. The front counter experience during and after my purchase was so disappointing & uncalled for. Having worked several customer service jobs myself, including busy and stressful ones, I wouldn't dream of treating anyone this way. I would have considered shopping here again but after this experience .. absolutely not.

The text came in at 10am and we were there before 10:30. This store has a lot of amazing items, a creepy doll/toy room. It's bright and cheery but if you put a group of old dolls in a room together, it's creepy. I like the way the owner put items together based on theme. (Like all the toys being together.) I bought something and saw a couple other items that I might be back for. Yup, I'll definitely be back. The prices are VERY reasonable and the owner and worker bee are very friendly.
