Before the Black Rock was destroyed. The next is the actual War of 1812. The Erie Canal, which opened Buffalo up to trade on a huge scale, is depicted. Then some nods to the local architecture and local Black Rock present day communities. I was staying at the Hotel Lafayette a little ways down the street and the moment I opened the…read morecurtains in my room, my eyes were treated to this beautiful mural. It's called "Wildflower for Buffalo" and was painted by Louise Jones back in 2018. It features a number flowers that are native to the region including red clover, coneflowers, burdock, chicory, Queen Anne's lace, thistle, lamb's quarters, swamp rose, and yarrow. The colors of the flowers are so vibrant and contrast so well with the light tan color of the building and especially the blue sky when it's a nice sunny day... like it was when I visited. I shared some photos to prove it. There is a little plaque on the wall that gives a little bit of information about it, which is a nice touch. I love to explore public art when I'm away from home and this piece it a beauty!

Or lumbersexuality perhaps. Definitely one of the most memorable murals in the Buffalo area for me, which is on Niagara Street coming up from the west side heading into the Tonawanda area. It's on that little bridge over Niagara Street where the road dips under the bridge, a very personal special spot to me for many reasons, and a place where I once broke down (sob). It's really a great job in terms of local art, with the artist making it look and feel like Buffalo and home and something to talk about. Definitely an excellent mural and one of many great ones in Buffalo.

Its a series of panels that have Buffalo spelled out. They show sailing (Lake Erie), Bike riding (The bike path along the Niagara River), and more. Its best seen walking the sidewalk, as driving under it is a fleeting glimpse.
