When I've found myself in that sort of situation, I've generally turned up at the Medical and Dental Centre in Forest Hill. If you can make an appointment, it's worth doing. I've waited for a very long time to see a doctor on a few occasions. Just under two hours is the current record. But - and this is a very important but - how long would it take to get checked out at the emergency ward of the nearest hospital? I can't remember the last time I waited less than six hours for attention. So in comparison, the wait isn't that bad. Plenty of time to play Angry Birds. Of course, if you've accidentally cut your hand off, you should probably go to the emergency ward anyway. No Angry Birds for you. The doctors themselves were nice enough. They asked the necessary questions, did the necessary checks, wrote the necessary paperwork. If they're not your GP, do you really need anything else? Bottom line: You need a doc and you're not going to get into the emergency ward for hours on end, just go here if you're nearby.

No, they won't give you antibiotics for your cold. You don't need them. Yes, they will figure things out, or send you on to someone who can. The receptionists are all very friendly, and take great care to learn the names of the more frequent patients and get to know them. It really makes one feel welcome and less awkward about going to the doctors. Bookings can fill up quickly, so either wake up at 7am and call then for the day, or expect to have a next day appointment. It's not always the case, but best not to gamble.
