It's on the line from London to Weymouth, and received awards for being the nicest medium-sized station on a couple of occasion. Indeed, it's distinctive for its beautiful turquoise and blue bridge that crosses the platforms. So it's pretty gorgeous, especially from a certain angle, and does a great job for the people who live in these suburban areas. It also works well with cyclists, and is close to Southampton and Dorchester and the Beautiful New Forest.

I did this with my girlfriend after her mate inconsiderately got pregnant leaving a spare space to fill. Truth be told I didn't really expect to enjoy it but I was pleasantly surprised. I was paired with Coyote the horse, who is the rebel of the outfit. It was a match made in heaven. Coyote was good, he did what he was told, as long as he was told with conviction. We trotted around the forest for a couple of hours and then returned to the centre where we were given a BBQ lunch, which was surprisingly good. The only part of the experience I didn't like was the very start and end when we had to ride our horses along the road and I became one of those people who I hate when I'm driving. It's unavoidable given the location, but I berate people who ride horses on roads so this filled me with emotional turmoil.

The price was reasonable and we could not have had a more wonderful experience. The horses were carefully selected with a much smaller horse for my 4 year old and a larger one for the 7 year old. All of the staff we met - without exception - were friendly, happy, enthusiastic and kind with our girls. They took their time helping them get ready and most importantly have really good instruction. The girls actually got to learn how to direct and control the horses themselves whilst being guided and led by the instructor on a short walk. It was really impressive that they learned something in such a short time. We left wishing we had bought much longer time and will definitely be back next time we visit the U.K. Excellent.

The staff are so friendly and welcoming, and actively invite parents to participate in the sessions at 'circle time'. The children have loads of fun and are always desperate to tell parents what they've been doing when you collect them at the end of the session - from picking apples from a nearby garden, to trips to the local railway station to stamp tickets with the station master, to visits from New Forest Rangers, sports day and nativity plays, there is no shortage of stimulation for your little one and they're always tired out (which is nice!). I am constantly staggered at how polite the kids are despite their young age, and I give the credit entirely to Playgroup for getting my little one to say Yes rather than the usual Yeah I get at home! I went down to visit my friend Craig and his family (including my goddaughter) in Southampton last…read moreweekend. Nice for us townies to get out into the countryside every so often! We went to play tennis at his health club, David Lloyds. David Lloyds is one of the posher chains of health club and Southampton is perhaps their flagship club in the south coast and it shows. Coming in as a guest costs £15 for 2 hours of tennis and use of the facilities. It's certainly plush inside , perhaps summed up best by a trouser press and shoe sterilisers in the men's changing rooms. The indoor tennis courts had sensible overhead lighting and the surface played like a hard court. There were many coaching classes going on while we were playing and we tried to pick up a few free tips! I had forgotten to bring my swimming shorts with me but no problem - David Lloyds has a sports equipment shop as well as hairdressers and spa facilities available on-site. They have a nice 25m indoor pool as well as an outside pool, which is open all year round incidentally. I have to confess that I spent most of my time in the jacuzzi and sauna though. The restaurant and lounge was very nice and comfortable and we were able to catch some live sport on the TVs, courtesy of SkySports (39% owned by Rupert Murdoch's NewCorps but we forgave them that!) Nice health club if you can afford it.

I pay top-notch for a gym that has the latest equipment which is always clean and working - it has never disappointed me. The other facilities on-site such as the open air heated pools, indoor pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi facilities are always clean and working. My only criticism, if you can call it that, is that the place sometimes feels like a crèche so pick your times well to avoid the rush hour. Overall I am impressed with this place just a shame my bank balance takes a hit every month but it is worth it!
