We golfed Meadow Valleys in late October so we knew weather would likely be an issue and it definitely factored into my experience. It was sunny for the front nine but hovering in mid 40s at best most of the day. Hard to swing when you have 4 layers on! That said, the course was in beautiful shape, even despite three days of rain before we got there. We were restricted to cart path only so it required a lot of walking I struggled because the fairways were so well cut they were like greens and the greens were even shorter and faster. Great for most golfers but not what I was used to. There was a nice mix of sand, water, and rough. The sand traps can be quite deep. You can walk the course but there are a few hills and distance between holes at times. I loved the fall colors of the leaves surrounding us. The course was less than 5100 yards from the forward tees so not super long but it was hard. Several blind shots. Greens on hills (we were referring to one hole as the volcano). I did manage a birdie on #7 so I was happy about that. read more

From a golf perspective the course is pure Hard AF Great conditions But whew the cost is steep. I get it, everyone is playing and it's always booked but wow it's steep. So great course, great layout and my favorite track there (I like it better than straits). read more

After watching the US destroy UK in the Ryder Cup we made tee times to play golf in Kohler at Blackwolf Run River Course. Conditions were immaculate, fairways were pristine and greens were true! Price was jacked up because of the tournament but our greens fees included unlimited drinks and we took advantage of it! We were smart not to drive this day! After the round we hung out in the Clubhouse which was stunning to see the views of 18 from the bar and patio. Prices here are steeps but I'm sure it was because folks wanted to play after watching the tournament. Plans is to come back to play Whistling Straits and Erin Hills! read more

Both courses are great. River is very challenging and beautiful. Probably our second favorite course at Kohler after The Straits. We finally played Meadow Valleys this year in May, haven't played it in the past due to hearing it really wasn't great. So glad we played, it was much fun and the best smelling course we've ever played due to all the flowers. All of the Kohler courses have lots of bathrooms and great food. read more

If I was reviewing on the course alone, it would easily be 5-stars. Our tee time was for 2:00pm. At noon, my friend and I called and asked if we could tee off around 3:30pm. They said no problem, the tee sheet was wide open. This was about a week before the PGA championship, and we wanted to check out the grounds there, so we had lunch and walked around a bit at Whistling Straits, then got to Blackwolf and checked in around 2:45 for our 3:30pm tee time. We paid the full $550 for the two of us to play, and were then told that we would not be allowed to go to the range, and we would have to start on hole #3, because they were doing maintenance on the course and 2:50 was the last tee time that day. They acknowledged that they made a big mistake when they moved us to 3:30, but they didn't offer to give us a discount (although they did give us 2 free hats). They had my phone number though, and should have called me when they realized they made a mistake. I had back surgery last year, and really need a warm up before playing. I was not happy at all at paying the full $550 and being told I couldn't warm up. When we got to the starter, the assistant pro started YELLING AT US, about being an hour late for our tee time. Clearly whoever in the pro shop made a mistake in moving our tee time, didn't want to take fault and tried to pass the blame on us. He was only a little apologetic when we straightened him out. He did let us start on #1, but we had to play though 4 holes of the grounds crew out there. Shot terrible because I couldn't warm up. River course was challenging, amazing, and lives up to Pete Dye in every way. Unfortunately because of how our situation was handled, especially with being forced to pay the entire $550, I won't be coming back with all the options there are for golfing, unless of course Blackwolf wants to fix the situation and invite me back for a round as their guest! read more

The course was fantastic but this experience I had definitely had a bad taste in my mouth. Alright my friend and I, who are both 19, had a tee time at 5:00 for the River Course. We get there are 4:15 so we can hit at the range and practice. Keep in mind I am not the greatest with my driver, it slices right. I hit a couple of balls trying to readjust my form to see what's wrong, and in the middle of getting ready for the next ball a man in a cart collecting balls on the range comes up to both of us. He exclaims to us how we need to respect the course. I am puzzled and astonished at how this worker comes up to us and assumes we are messing around. Sure Black Wolf is more on the high class and assumed you are decent at golf for how much the cost is there, but still has no right to come up to us and yells at us. read more

Have dined here many times, for lunch and dinner. Never had a bad experience. the staff is attentive, the room temp was just right (with the mother-in-law, this mattered), with or without the view of the golf course it's just a great place for a meal. If going for lunch, definitely try the cheese steak; you won't be disappointed. read more

We decided to have dinner here since the menu did looked interesting. The view of the golf course from our table was very nice. I ordered the caprese salad and pork loin dish. It went downhill from here when our waitress was not knowledgeable about wine. When we decided to pick wine from the wine list- she did not bring it until after we had to ask for it when our entree came. (She also tried to get us to pay for the wine twice!). We ended up not liking the wine...sigh. The food portions here are big so if you can share the dish with someone- do!! The caprese salad was pretty- the tomato was sliced and quartered and put back together with layers of cheese and basil, and drizzled in balsamic dressing. The pork loin was HUGE and the flavor was okay. I enjoyed my scalloped potato more. My husband had the lobster soup and steak with Guinness dressing. He said it was okay. I hope they improve their wait service. read more

I had the pleasure to play this course twice this year. Only Meadow Valley, not the River. The staff is very attentive to you and make you feel like a millionaire while playing there. The facility is clean, has good product in the golf shop, and a great beer and food menu in the cafe for after the round. The course is second to none. The fairways, greens, bunkers, and the whole course are so well manicured it is unreal. Great course and highly recommend playing the Meadow Valley course, at half the rate of the River, but I do hear the River is amazing. read more

Beautiful golf course but a 5 1/2 hour round. They need to manage pace of play. One group backed the whole course up.

2 18 hole courses here -- the River and the Meadows -- both have some absolutely stunning holes -- great additions to Pete Dye's portfolio. The River is more dramatic and probably more challenging -- but the Meadows course doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Some of my most memorable days on a golf course here -- one year we played on my birthday and Brett Favre and Frank Winters were playing in the group ahead of us. Have golfed here as well as dined here several times but will not return. First - the dining is generally consistently excellent, but not spectacular - 4 out of 5 stars. Well thought out menu, good but not necessarily attentive wait staff, well prepared food, deep wine list, and great deserts. Second - golfing on the Blackwolf Run course is interesting. Challenging course but at times it showed need for maintenance (despite the course type). First several times I golfed there it went well. The third time was marked by extremely rude golf course personnel. We arrived about 30 minutes before our tee time and waited and waited and waited - due to their screw ups we finally teed up 45 minutes after our scheduled tee time. It went downhill from there. We were followed by an overly aggressive and extremely rude and threatening Course Marshall who repeatedly told us that if we didn't speed up he would remove us from the course - he swore and yelled at us. This was odd because there were NO golfers after us and we were waiting for the groups ahead of us. Finally a groundskeeper witnessed this course marshall yelling at us and told us that this guy just wanted to get home early and he does this all the time. Because of this, we ended up skipping several holes and were extremely angry. At the end of the abbreviated round, I stopped to have my clubs cleaned and the attendant said he would be right back. I waited and waited and finally gave up and went to the clubhouse. While in the pro shop, I found a nice sweatshirt (not sure why I wanted one) and went to the cashier and waited and waited - the cashier and another employee were engaged in a lively conversation - I tried to interrupt so I could buy this merchandise and when I did they walked away. I sent a letter to management complaining about this experience and did not receive a reply which is indicative of a much larger problem. Have used most all of the Kohler facilities and their facilities are world-class but their service can be inconsistent and not in step with the clientele they serve. read more

A beautiful and scenic golf course designed by the great Pete Dye that lives up to the hype. I prefer these courses over Whistling Straits. I think there is a tendency to over rate courses that border the ocean or lake, that provides a scenic water contrast. These two courses are as pretty as any course in the US and have the great Pete Dye design. read more

Blackwolf Run is casual elegance with fine dining AND has an lovely Gluten Free menu. I have lived and worked in multiple US states and cities and now live in Kohler, WI. We have paid very high prices for supposedly Gluten free foods in well reviewed restaurants in Boston, Manhattan/NYC and other cities ..only I went away ill... With Blackwolf Run, we have been served well, promptly from both the regular and the Gluten Free menus with absolutely no issues of my feeling ill. We eat there more often than any other fine restaurant in this area. Peace of mind is worth it. My husband loves the Flank Steak w/ Boursin cheese mixture. The Walleye is moist and cooked well. The stuffed Pork chop is a harvest feast. The Pot De Creme are decadent. And the views are relaxing. I would enjoy it if they had a sommelier, yet have not been too concerned as most wines have gone well with the meals. read more

Not worth the price...we played late season (Nov 1) using the WSGA platinum passport. For starters we felt like we were treated like second class citizens because we were using the discount coupon. They rushed us to the tee box, which was fine, but we were on the box on time and then they made us wait 10 minutes because they paired us with the next group. The course was in good shape, but does not have the epic feel of Whistling Straits, certainly not worth a premium price anywhere in the ballpark of Whistling Straits. There were gun shots being fired on the course often as there is a hunting lodge right next door. All in all, a nice course, but not the premium experience that other courses at a lower price point provide. I believe this devalues the Whistling Straits experience because based on price ($275 compared to $385), they are promoting that it is "almost" as good. The beverage cart was the highlight. She came around often and the prices were quite reasonable compared to what we expected. $4 for a Spotted Cow is pretty good on a course. read more

Where do I start on this review? How many things can go wrong on a five star golf resort? The starter was knowledgeable and friendly and told us that since it was such a hot day to grab an iced towel when we get our drinks at the turn. After an enjoyable front 9, we stopped at the refreshment hut to order drinks for the back nine. The two young ladies staffing the hut were discussing their experiences with their boyfriends the night before and after avoiding several of our questions they advised us to get drinks from the beverage cart as they were closing. Frustrated we turned around to get iced towels and it was completely empty - again don't offer it on a 95 degree day if it isn't going to be maintained. After several holes we finally cross paths with the beverage cart and she wasn't to be seen until close to the end of the round. Fortunately we did see her again on 16 as one of our carts was not going to make it to the end of the round with a low battery. She called the golf shop to send another out for replacement. We proceeded to order beverages and her response was "sorry the drunk guys in front of you just took all of my ice". How do you allow a beverage cart to run out of ice on a premium resort. Unthinkable. There was no Ranger on the course as the last 9 holes took over 3 hours because of the drunk group ahead of us. They were even urinating in the middle of the fairway (with a caddie). This is my 24th year of scheduling annual golf trips and we decided to splurge this year with the Kohler Experience. It unfortunately ranks last among all 24 years. I wouldn't expect this service at a county course and was completely surprised one of the "best courses in the country" would allow this level of service. read more

If you take anything away this review, it should be that the increased price to play The River Course isn't worth it, just pay less and play the Meadow/Valley, it's just as nice and it too has great views. I played Blackwolf Run on Father's Day, 6/6/18 with 3 friends. We usually play the Meadow/Valley-which is always a treat, but we decided to play the River Course for a change. Be advised the River Course is more expensive, by around $100. We had a 7:10 tee time, got there early and hit practice balls (love that they use Titleist practice balls). Everything was great as far the course condition, it was in awesome shape and the greens were running at around a 12-13, maybe faster-yes, really. However, my issue is this, when you $315 to play a course, adding $50 per player for a cart (without GPS) is immoral. The carts are really nice with the best golf golf cart seats I've EVER seen, very leather like, super cushioned and embroidered with the Black Wolf Run logo. A $100 per cart is really tough for me to swallow. And the blue bloods at the USGA wonder why golf participation is decreasing?! Anyway, the temp was 95° and they only had ONE cart girl for 36 holes. We saw her at #4 and then didn't see her again until our second shot into #18. Prices on food and drink are reasonably priced. I'm always disappointed in the shirts they have at their very small pro-shop. If you can, you should play Black Wolf Run at least once, but I think their Irish course is a FAR SUPERIOR VALUE! read more

Haved dined at Blackwolf Run & Whistling Straits Clubhouse restaurants multiple times with exceptional food and service each time. Have also golfed at both facilities at least once per year for the past seven years. Consistently excellent conditions on all courses and very attentive customer service. One of the best golf resorts in the USA. read more
