We spent the weekend at the American Club in Kohler and chose this restaurant for lunch. It sits on the members only property of the River Wildlife club. In order to eat here you have to pay an additional $37 fee per person, but you do get access to their exclusive trails to explore after lunch. We were very happy we took the time to walk the trails, it was a beautiful and diverse landscape and such a lovely walk! The restaurant itself was super cozy and up north feeling. Old log cabin vibes, you really feel like you're dining in the middle of the woods at a cabin up north. There's a large wood burning fireplace when you walk in that adds to the cozy ambiance. Lunch was not busy, so it felt a little dead and there was no music playing which was fine but just kind of quiet when we were put in a back room alone. I did get the feeling that it's obvious who's members and who's not at the treatment you might get. For being so quiet, service was really slow but luckily we were in no rush. We split their wild rice and mushroom soup, a pheasant blt and elk tenderloin sandwich. Everything was really tasty, the meat was done well. You didn't get an option for your side and they just served everything with a very mayo-forward pasta salad that I did not find appetizing. Overall, a super neat and unique experience. read more

What a beautiful picturesque restaurant in the woods. 6 of us had brunch and the smell of the wood burning fireplace set the tone. The service was terrific and the menu was excellent. We started with some fruit and breads and cheese. We made sure we took the leftovers home! 3 of us had the Walleye, my wife had the spare ribs hash and eggs. Booked a nice dinner by the fireplace. Very nice. Wrong! Group of about 30 arrives and loud talking in the small area around our table. This goes on as we are trying to eat. Picture a dinner table at a rock concert. Yes! Then, a group picture in front of the fireplace, A guy's butt hanging over my wife's dinner plate as they crowd around our table. Finally they go to their room, doing tequila shots. Absolutely ruined our evening. Server says" next time you book, ask if there will be a loud huge party here" . Really? Do not go to this place! This is always my " go to " place for special occasions or any other time. Gourmet meals for dinner or out- of - this world soup and sandwiches on a Saturday or most weekdays . It can't be beat. No place I would rather be on a cold winter night than in front of their fireplace! read more

This member's only restaurant is incredible.. A beautiful log cabin with roaring fires and impeccable decor. I got the Pheasant BLT which is truly the greatest sandwich I've ever had. They have a great beer and wine selection, which goes well both with the food and as a post-hike refresher by the fire. Prices are on the pricier side, but you get amazing quality (pheasants from the property, etc.) I highly recommend taking a hike around the golf course to work up an appetite again before dessert, and then ordering a brownie sundae and drink by the fire. Best of all, RWL is dog friendly, so you can bring your dog. read more

The restaurant is cool-- a log cabin in the forest with nice scenery. The food is OK-- is you are not a member, definitely NOT worth the $28 fee per person to eat here. We were staying at Kohler resort and no one there knew anything about the restaurant or the hiking or activities at river wildlife. We kept being referred to river wild life. Wanted to give an update. After working with my travel agent and the folks at the American Club, River Wildlife reduced my cancellation penalty to $400 for the room fee. I much appreciate this, and my original review would not have been posted if this would have been the cancellation fee in the first place. I thank River Wildlife for being reasonable. read more

We came to River Wildlife for some hiking and a delicious lunch!!! We bought the day pass (About $18ish per person). We wanted to cross country ski, but you needed to rent the skis at the American Club. It was recommended to us that we start the hiking trails by the BlackWolf Run Lodge. Absolutely beautiful!!! We saw one deer and one rabbit :) :) We were the only ones hiking out there, but itw as breath taking!!! After almost two hours of this pregnant lady hiking, I was ready for some lunch! (Make reservations ahead of time!). The atmosphere of the River Wildlife Lodge is so warm and comfortable. They have a nice fireplace and tables when you walk in, along with board games and tons of magazines. They have other seating in seperate rooms on the first floor and upstairs. The hubby ordered the pot roast sandwhich with mashed potatoes (Im not a huge mashed potatoes fan, but these were AWESOME!). I ordred this delicious grilled cheese sandwhich with arugula and other deliciousness inside of it. The food was delicious. Quite pricey, but so is every restaurant on the resort and well worth it!! read more

Went trap shooting (first time) and had Nick as an instructor. Nick is an extremely affable and qualified instructor who genuinely seems to enjoy his job. It was a fun experience and by the end I was shooting 2 targets at a time with a 80 percent hit rate. Definitely recommend if you're in the area. read more

I was visiting the American Club resort with my mom and when I heard about River Wildlife, I had to make a visit. This was this past week, so the weather wasn't great for hiking, but I will definitely return in better weather to do that. The log cabin restaurant has an incredible atmosphere. You have to walk down a short path through the woods to get there and once inside, you feel like you are really in someone's own log cabin. There is a real burning fireplace right in the center and a few rooms with a small number of tables in each area. The food was delicious - I tried a pheasant blt one day and the elk tenderloin shepherd's pie the next (yes we went back a second time!). The portions are large and everything was most definitely homemade. We did buy some of the apple pie jam to take home, which I ate the next morning and loved! While I think the entry fee might distract some from trying this hidden gem, I found it well worth it for the atmosphere, the great food, and the peace and quiet with beautiful scenery. read more
