    Tuna and Sardine tapas
    Rachael J.

Made it to Blai Tonight again for the first time since 2013. It was so good the last time we were here that my husband remembered it from before. We were only in Barcelona one night but we had to come here again. They now have indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating is self serve - you ask for a plate and then grab your tapas one by one and take them to your table. You can go back for additional rounds using the same plate. If you're seated outdoor then you must ask for them to serve your tapas at the bar then take them to your table. I think this has something to do with how they charge you. No one keeps a tally of how many tapas you've had, instead they count your toothpicks at the end and that is what determines how much you pay. Tapas are either 1.00 or 1.50 Euro each and this is a guess here but plain toothpicks are the 1 € and the more fancy toothpicks are 1.5 €. So about the tapas. They have a HUGE selection - two levels that wrap around the corner of the bar and encroach on the seating area. I don't know how but some are giant and are still only 1.5€. I got one that had 3 chicken wings on a toothpick standing neatly on a slice of bread for 1.5 €. Which brings me to another thing - they have the traditional flavors like fish with olives or ham but they also venture into other flavors like what seemed to be a ceviche tapa with half an avocado filled with tomato and onions topped with a generous slice of fish. They also had a couple of dessert tapas. They will heat any of the tapas. Just put them on a plate and ask for them to be heated. It might be a little tricky as I only speak a little Spanish - no Catalan - and I had trouble explaining what I wanted to do. The person behind the bar was still very patient and was able to figure out what I wanted. So glad we went back to this place. I wish there was something like this back home.

    1 Euro tapis

Guys This is the real deal. A small tapis joint located on a pedestrian alley a couple of blocks, off Paralaell. pobleSec area. They have individual tapis pieces on sliced French bread for 1 euro each. They count the toothpicks to charge. Selections include salmon on avocado with a dollop of caviar, mossierello and tomato, calimari, sausage, etc. all for one euro. Selections were both hot and cold with the hot pieces going into the microwave. Beer was only 1,40. Highest quality and lowest price I have found anywhere.

The avocado was so fresh and good!

5 stars for the tapas, -1 because it was freezing and the room is wide open with windows and the door. But back to the food. These tapas were so tasty and obviously the right price at €1/piece. The place is filled with locals having a good time even though we went on a Wednesday, and the two guys running the place (father and son, perhaps?) were very helpful and friendly. My favorite was the avocado/caviar/pico de gallo tapas, though everything is awesome. My friend really enjoyed her vino de la casa, too. I hope to be back one day!

I had 7 items and one beer and was never happier! This place is very affordable and had a good crowd. The bites were all very different and very tasty.

    The self serve bar.

Yum!! Absolutely amazing tapas! And only €1! The place was pretty crowded, but worth it. You can get beer, wine or sangria for €1.90 as well. Everything tasted so good. You get a plate when you arrive. You serve yourself tapas from the bar. They will heat them up if you ask. At the end you pay based on the amount of toothpicks you have. (Each tapas has a toothpick holding it together) I was recommended to this place by a flight attendant who comes here every time he's in Barcelona. I might have to start that tradition as well!

I am not a fan of pinxtos, I couldn't like this place very much for its food. It is very cheap though, so it's cool to have some drinks.

    Cynthia W.

Cool concept, but I found that pinxtos are not my thang. You basically walk in and tell them how many people. They will give you a plate and a cup for the toothpick. You just grab anything and everything you want to eat and at the end the calculate the total by the leftover toothpicks. This would be a great snack or maybe if you are into beer. I'm not so I don't think I get the effect. They had a good variety, but my favorites were the blue berry cheese cake bite and the chicken wing bites. They also have some out door seating which is nice and the workers speak English.

1 euro each, and most importantly it's so delicious!

We were told by a local guy who knows all these beautiful places for tapas. We ate a lot but each spent only 10 euros including drinks and services. But most importantly the tapas here were very delicious! I specially love the ones with salmon and avocado or baked mushrooms. One tip is to start slowly for the early rounds bcz they are keeping serving new selections of tapas.

Fantastic! We are from Florida and have had Tapas plenty of times...but this place is incredible!! Fun, lively atmosphere! Thursday nights all the Tapas on this street is half price and this place boasts some of the best around all of Barcelona. Next door is their second restaurant and same deal...both fantastic!

The service was excellent, our server spoke English and knew so much about American pop culture. He even sang NSYNC songs to us while serving us dishes. As for the food let's get into it: - Lobster Croquettes (8/10) We've had a lot of croquettes this trip, but these were on another level, get one per person. - Paella (7.5/10) Different style of paella from other places we went. It was almost like a paella curry, which was still rich and delicious. - Squid Sandwich (10/10) This is hands down the best appetizer I've ever had. The squid was packed with flavor and the mayo sauce they used paired perfectly. Order one per person, and be prepared to order another to go. - Garlic Shrimp (8/10) Solid entree paired with sourdough bread. Dip that bread into the sauce and you'll be satisfied. - Aged Beef Steak w/ Foie Gras (9/10) This might be one of the best steak dishes I've had traveling abroad. It was cooked perfectly, and came with a potato crust on the bottom and Foie Gras on top. Definitely a must order. Overall a great experience, from the service and ambiance to the quality of the food, this is a must try when visiting Barcelona. Would I go again? Absolutely!

Cañete was booked out for 2 weeks straight, so we decided to risk it and see if we could get a spot as walk-ins; and were lucky enough to want less than 5 minutes before being sat at the "bar" in front of the open kitchen, which is honestly the best seat in the house IMHO. You get to see all the 'action' and interact with the friendly and often funny staff. Everything in the menu we tried was fantastic, but a few standouts for me were the squid sandwich (do yourself a favor and try it, even if you aren't a "squid person" the bread is fresh, and the butter garlic sauce they use should be sold in bottles at the supermarket), the lobster croquet was refreshing, and the aged beef steak with foie and truffle sauce was delicious and cooked to perfection.

Water is a very pricey item in Europe. We ordered three bottles of water at 2.30 EUR or 2.60 USD each. We did get 30% off our bill! The server was friendly, patient, polite, and very warm. The dishes were reasonably priced. We had a wonderful dining experience at this place. Highly recommended if you visit the area.

Some toothpicks were just holding things together -- I had to laugh at that -- but it's all part of the charm and experience. La Tasqueta was so good that we came back a few days later for another round, only to find it temporarily closed due to a plumbing issue. Sadly, we couldn't wait since we'd already hiked all over Montjuïc earlier that day. We tried another pintxo place down the block -- it was okay, but honestly, not even close to the same level. This place is amazing -- friendly, fun, and absolutely delicious. Sit inside and be dazzled by the colorful pintxos lined up along the counter, or grab a spot outside under an umbrella and watch the world go by. Loved this place... 5 stars all the way!

It's kind of inconspicuous from the outside, but the interior gives way to a really welcoming space. The restaurant is separated into two main areas, with an earth-tone color scheme that has a rustic, almost cave-like aesthetic. The high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows keep the dining room open and spacious. The tapas menu had a good selection, and we decided on several items: pan con tomate, sweet potato rolls, chicken cannelloni, bacon-wrapped figs, croquettes, falafel, and a charcuterie board. All the tapas were great - my favorites were the chicken cannelloni, pan con tomate, and the charcuterie board. The cannelloni especially was a standout - definitely a unique dish, and the chicken was super flavorful. We opted for dessert, and got the feta whip cheesecake - this was great as well. The combination of tang and sweet was a good finisher to our meal. Service was great - everyone was friendly and our dishes were served at a good pace. Overall, I'm glad I tried out Ziryab - the tapas were delicious and atypical of ones you find elsewhere in Barcelona. I would have no qualms returning here for another meal.
