The best football club. I have a bit of a not very important, albeit obvious bias…read more I had been to the Football club occasionally, but this year was my first as a player and member. Although my talent is questionable (the question being if I have any) I quickly felt welcome at the club. I hadn't played any organised sport since Primary School, so really I was happy to not die after my first training. While some of the buildings seem a little old, the interior has recently been renovated and expanded. The facilities are more than adequate, and there are always plans floating around for future improvements which really adds to the positive attitude at the club. The newest improvement has been the expansion of the dining area and kitchen, which can be hired by the public. Another great asset to the club is the grandstand, the biggest elevated undercover seating area in the entire Hills league. Being in the hills in winter, any undercover seating is great. There is also an outdoor bar under the stand alongside a bbq so there's no good reason to stray too far from the grandstand. On Saturday nights throughout the season the club is open for dinner, all are welcome not just players and members. The menu has a fair variety, mostly pub food based. Schnitzels with various toppings being the most popular (being at least as good as a pub schnitzel at half the price, it's not hard to see why). Separate from meals, the bar is also open Saturday nights. Whilst the range may be minimal, they never run out of what they do stock. The cocktail menu is the most popular with the younger crowd. There are many other postives about the club and facilities, the most notable being the recent string of success at the club. Premierships don't necessarily make a great club, but a great club always has the potential to win premierships. Next winter I look forward to "heading down the club".

Even to the eye it looks more exciting than many of the playgrounds out there. There's also a good mix of equipment suiting a variety of age groups. It's such a shame Mitcham Council don't have drinking fountains at the majority of their playgrounds! Some shelter would be great here too, but alas, there's none. Old (out of date) reviews & pictures of the park mention the space is a little rundown, however this has all changed! The playground is only around 12 months old and is small but AWESOME! There are two trampolines built into the squishy soft-fall ground, along with a super-fun multi-person swing and a great rope climbing-frame. The slide is definitely more suited at younger children, but I come here with the 3-12 year-olds I work with and they all tend to find something to keep them entertained. In addition, the outdoor gym equipment has all been replaced in the last few months. I haven't used it, but it is all very new and looks like it offers more resistance and more of a work-out than the old stuff. As for the 'skate park', it's not huge, but should keep local teens (and the fully grown blokes I see on it often) entertained. Finally, older reviews also stated there was little shade. Again, this has changed. The shade is plentiful and is a mix of trees and sails/shade cloth. There are also two barbecues, one which is completely shaded. If you live in the area I highly recommend you check out this little beauty.

There's a playground, skate park, basketball court, outdoor swimming centre, kiosk and a small selection of exercise machines. Needless to say the park accommodates a wide range of users. At the risk of sounding like a meathead (I'm not!) the exercise equipment is so easy it could only be useful for the elderly and frail. And it's located right beside the skate park... a slightly humorous combination! The bathroom, built into the swimming centre, is accessible from the outside. It's OK in an emergency. Dogs are permitted to run free, but only between 5pm and 10am. The setting is natural and full of native veg, but lacks shade. Depending on the season there will either be a lovely creek or a ditch running through the middle of the park. .

Twelftree Reserve, in the back streets of College Park (a real rough ghetto where homies drive Merc's and Beemers), was where I would spend countless hours playing kick to kick with my mate Jimbo, shooting hoops, and playing on the spinning top thingy.....that last one was more me than Jimbo. The reserve has a bit of everything, play equipment, basket ball mini-court, picnic tables (all under dense leaf coverage) and a nice sized area to dob the footy to your mate for hours on end until you can't walk. I guess I have my answer now as to why my knees are comparable to an 80 year olds!

Of course, the similarity ends there. And, to an extent, it doesn't perfectly begin there either. The little playground has seen a lot of traffic, I'm sure, but all my visits to Twelftree have shown all the reserve's patrons to frequent the desert or, in this case, the grassland. The playground isn't bad, but I much prefer the expanse. It's big and long (which means I can find a spot to myself) and the trees provide plenty of shade (which means I can stay there for more than ten minutes).

It has a nice large grassed area to play on with plenty of width and length for cricket, baseball or footy. There's a pathway running through the middle and plenty of seating all around with a lot placed beneath the shade of tree's - quite smart by the council! Even better it has a fully equipped, quite extensive playground equipment area and it is fully fenced all the way around it! It looks fantastic and is really quite inviting with it's bright colours against the black fence. As per all the playgrounds and reserves in this area it is well looked after by the council. This is surprisingly a much nicer area to playground visit than somewhere like Ingle Farm, where everything looks dead.

It used to be great but now, since the upgrade, it's freaking amazing! The wooden playground is still there in all it's fantastical glory, but wait, there's MORE! Now there's plenty of BBQ's and sheltered table/chair areas. There's new play equipment for the younger children, all sorts of interactive musical equipment and a bigger car park. I was there a couple of months ago and the toilets are a little walk away but with the new work that's been happening there, they might be moved closer. Get in early if you want a BBQ. There's usually plenty to go around but if you are having a birthday party there, you'll want to stay the whole day. There's a mix of rubber flooring and bark chip depending on the equipment. LOTS OF FUN!

While St Kilda rules the north, Jubilee must be the best looking and most fun playground in the southern part of Adelaide. This is one playground that all kids will find an instant liking to. I meant, look at that!! A wooden castle! It must be entralling to see something this big and be able to play in it. There's area catered for all ages. A smaller slide and and tunnel meant for toddlers, the main castle for the older kids. Heck, even I was running around with the kids up and down the castle earlier this afternoon. There are also many seats and benches for the parents, a couple of them with shelter. The castle playground itself is enclosed with wooden fences, so there's little fear that your young ones will 'escape'. lol. Great place to bring your kids around every once in a while. Noarlunga shopping centre is only nearby, you can always rock up to the playground early in the morning and then spend the afternoon in the shopping centre. Good way to spend a day. :)

More pluses are the 'adult' fitness equipment dotted along the outside of the track. Ideally I'd like to give this a five star rating but even with all these wonderful 'extras' it still can't hide that the playground itself is a little lacking. It certainly isn't the worst there is, but it's older than the rest of the park, dated and not very engaging for a wide range of children. You will find all the trimmings at this park however; electronic toilets, sheltered table/chair areas, BBQ's and even a cricket pitch.
