Found open seating and sat back to relax for the approximate 1 hour ride. Spoke with rail workers and was told we could actually board the 730am versus the 758 we had purchased. When you arrive at the Station, ASK which platform your train will be on - I almost missed my Express train as I relied on the monitor and went to the lower platforms instead of staying at the upper platforms. Is there really any need for train station signs to be translated into Gaelic?…read more Don't get me wrong, I don't lose any sleep over it. I'd even understand it in Glasgow or Edinburgh. After all, the tourists will revel in it and it's genuinely nice to see its use encouraged. But Dalmuir? Really? Who are these people who wouldn't understand where they were unless all of the umpteen dozen signs at the station didn't have "Dal Mhoire" bolted underneath them. OK, it's a token gesture, but I bet those Gaelic speakers among us would also prefer to see this money to go towards, say, a heated waiting room or a wee man dishing out cups of tea on the 7.42 service to Drumgelloch. Nevertheless, the rest of Dalmuir station is terrific, particularly the long awaited improvements to disabled access. As a commuter hub the station really needed to up its game in recent years and although the building work took a little longer than most passengers hoped, the station has improved beyond belief and has even kept the handy little newsagent kiosk which many feared would close. It's certainly made travelling from here a much more pleasant experience so a big well done, or should that be tapadh leat, to Network Rail.

It now connects with the small bus station bit outside, and it's very handy for Morrisons supermarket too. The original station was on the other side of Dumbarton Road, which accounts for the unusually long platforms here. On this present site stood the subway station of Merkland Street, but now the subway and rail line stops are combined as simply 'Partick'. It's light and airy with lots of glass and metalwork, and the large atrium lets you see how high up the rail line actually is - and how many stairs there are to climb! But fear not, just past the ticket office there are escalators. It always feels understaffed for its size to me - there never seems to be enough people at the ticket office and you're more likely to end up buying a ticket from someone standing at the entranceway to the escalators. There are no automatic barriers or even ticket machines for the rail line, which seems a strange omission; but no doubt they're planning on adding those at a later date. The subway on the other hand, is fully turnstiled and ticket machined as you would expect and it kind of puts the big trains to shame in that respect. There's not much else inside apart from a wee newsagents stall and a cart selling mediocre coffee. But check out Bud Neill's 'G. I. Bride' statue by the entrance doors - this is a sister sculpture to 'Lobey Dosser' on Woodlands Road and is a fine tribute to the great man's 'other' cartoon. I love it to bits.

Anyways it's all sparkly (I wish) & dolled up a bit now. There's a handy wee coffee cart inside the station beside the door, I went once & the lady serving was really friendly but I wasn't blown away by the coffee unfortunately. There's also a mini WHSmiths stall too for mags, fags, bags & jags (I jest of course), yous ken what they sell so I don't need to tell you. It's handy that you don't have to go outside to get to the Subway here - this I likey. It's very handy when I need to dash (RUN!) from my train to try & catch the Subway when I'm working. Although they lose a star for having the annoying wee bit where there's 2 ticket inspectors checking everyone's tickets as they leave or enter the station. Bah. They only seem to be there during rush-hour times when, funnily enough, people are usually in a hurry. Duh. So sometimes there's a bit of a mosh pit to wade through but having said that flashing my Zonecard at them DOES make me feel like a special dectective or spy or summat like that. Yas. In my head I am anyway...la la la... Two (count 'em) platforms & a Subway is what you get here. I like the inside warm bit where you can wait for your train when it's baltic or raining but I also like the huuuuuge long platforms. Not enough wee teles though along the platform informing you of train information/times. That's another bugbear. Besides that Partick is pretty nifty as far a small to mid-size train stations go. Well it's kind of a mess right now as it's going through some major renovations. From what I've heard is things are being removed and replaced. Hopefully by the next time I've visited, it should be complete. The nice thing about this area, everything is all walking distance from each other. You can start off at a pub, move over to next. Get some shipping done, grab a meal and finish off at another pub. So many good restaurants that's all nearby. Both quick and easy places and sit down dining. Even loads of more upscale bars and restaurants. Just popping into different places and seeing what's there is really great. Major plus, with the train station ending there, it sure brings in loads of people. Daily and especially during the weekend.

Queen Street's city-centre location is convenient as the two stations are geographically not far apart. It's a busy station most parts of the day every day as it's a hub for both routine and getaway travel. It's very close to several businesses and institutions (U of Strathclyde, Glasgow City Offices, etc.) making it a convenient commuting hub. Weekend getaways to the Highlands would begin here as well. The station saw 14 million-plus travelers in 2024, being fiercely taxed by revenge travel from COVID which saw only about 2 million travelers pass through in 2020/2021. I would not be surprised if the station caught up this year to the 16 million-plus travelers it saw in 2019 pre-COVID. It's the third busiest station in Scotland. The station, although it has been in operation almost two centuries since 1842, actually has a very modern, up-to-date feel thanks to recent renovations completed in October, 2021. The attractive facade on George St. is actually quite impressive and the spacious feel of the main terminal is quite nice. The amenities are plentiful enough if you want a coffee or a snack to take on the train (or while you await your train or the passenger you're meeting). The signage is reasonably decent allowing the novice the ability to navigate. We found its usage to get to Balloch and ultimately also to Inverness to be rather easy.

The train station is dirty but the coach seat was perfect and clean once on the train. The passengers and workers were extremely friendly and helpful, making for a great, safe and comforting trip. The boarding process was quick and easy, especially with luggage. Although we had to carry our luggage up 1 stair, the train wasn't sold out so there was plenty of room for our many bags.

This station was my local station for many years. The station master was a very friendly guy who…read moreworks most weekday mornings. The station is accessible from cathcart road only and has no disabled access - the only access is down a long flight of stairs. The services from this station run to and from Glasgow Central, as well as the Cathcart circle train. trains are frequent, usually every 10 minutes at peak times, 20 minutes at non peak times and 30 minutes at weekends. There is no inside waiting room so if you are waiting a while you may want to have a scarf handy! You can usually pick up a Metro from this station on your way to work.

I was rushing to get the 8.10am train from gilmour street to troon so that I could get the ferry to…read morethe isle of arran at 9.15am and as I went to the elevator doors a staff member, Pat (Patrick), said I couldn't go up without a ticket and I told him I was literally buying it on my way up because it was 8.08am and I was going to miss my train, so he stood in between the elevator doors until I activated the ticket and therefore missing my train. I have had a horrendous week, my electricity stopped working, my freezer and fridge defrosted so I had to bin all my food, work has been awful and to top it all off a family member died last week, so when I missed the train because of Patrick I cried for an hour straight because I was going to go see my partner, because after the week I've had, I really, really needed it. Scotrail website states that "If you board a service without buying a ticket, where you had the opportunity to do so, you will be sold an undiscounted full price ticket to a station served by the train you are on." which I knew beforehand and was going to do on the train, because I was rushing. I would have made the train if your staff member didn't literally physically stop me from getting on the elevator before buying a ticket. I said to him that I was going to miss the train and that I can buy a ticket on the train but he wouldn't listen. I'm extremely distraught and won't ever be using this station again due to the incompetence of the staff members. Jaqueline also stood by and didn't help whatsoever, and Patrick has sent my mental state back something shocking. I hope both employees receive a proper punishment or I will be in contact again.
