From the general day to day upkeep of the studio, the customer service and care from the artists, and most importantly the quality of the tattoos, this place is one of (if not) the best in Leeds. Dave Bewick, the owner, is a skilled artist who has trained under tattooists of note, not just in the UK. It's obvious all of the staff care about what they're doing, including making you feel comfortable, and making sure you'll be happy with your tattoo/piercing. They really show her specific talents and act as a guide to the artwork she produces. If you don't see something you like, you can bring in drawings or ideas and she will help you create the ideal design with a drawing deposit (which you will have to pay anywhere you go). This is taken off the final payment for the tattoo as well! She's very friendly, knows her artwork and will help you in decisions - if you're not sure on colours, give her the reigns! She won't disappoint =) Don't be afraid of what you're going to talk about for 3 hours whilst having your tattoo done as she's good to talk to and she's happy to let you bring a friend with you too! I was really impressed with my tattoo, the detail, the colour and the specifically old school with brighter colours design. She adds her own artistic touch in the drawing and it's uniqueness is brilliant!

I may not have tattoos in obvious places but I have a few and I know what I'm doing. Today when I gave them a second chance to get an opinion on a cover up, not only did the artist say it wasn't possible, but the guy at reception basically turned his back on me when he realised I wasn't going to spend any money. I'm so sick of being treated like a second class citizen because if not looking "cool enough" in tattoo studios. Avoid this place unless you are a 14 year old emo.

Luckily, when I got my ankles tattooed at Sacred Art several years ago, head tattooist and owner Mark was kind enough to forsake his beloved heavy metal and play something a little more mellow. The first Portishead album relaxed me enough that the time seemed to fly by with only the occasional nudge of pain. Based in leafy Chorlton, Sacred Art is a small and welcoming tattoo studio that specialises in a variety of styles from Japanese and tribal to American pin-ups. Alongside Mark, there's an equally friendly female tattooist - Sandy - whose covered head to toe in ink herself. If you're interested in getting something done, the best thing to do is pop in for a consultation and take a look at the designs in Mark and Sandy's portfolios. Their rates are reasonable, the studio is clean and cosy and I was very happy with the work they did for me. One ankle took about 60 minutes from outlines to full shading, the other about 90 minutes including flowers and a koi carp.

The shading, especially, is so well executed, like a watercolour painting almost. According to my friend, the studio itself is very laid back and the staff are extremely friendly and make you feel at ease immediately. After complaining to the man who did them MIKE FRANKUM went bk to hopefully fix the issues was told he'd txt in a week to try finish everything up. Got zero txt. Customer finally given up. Proper let down. Not only did MIKE cross a line between customer n employee but then tried to make customer lie to her family. By the way at the time the customer was sufferering a severe episode in mental health n MIKE saw this as a green light to take advantage. Customer even paid a bit extra cause they felt guilty that MIKE did a bad job on a tattoo he was paid over the odds for cause they wer so desperate to just get finished n felt bad that working on them meant he'd b loosing money. Plz do your homework before getting work done here. CUSTOMER previously had 5 other tattoos done here by somebody called GLEN that wer perfect so extremely gutted with wat theyve been left with. Will now b seeking to take this to small claims court as not only did he not finish his work but preyed on wat was an extremely vulnerable person who on multiple times explained that they was suffering with a mental illness episode n even explained how bad it was. I found them quite uneducated in piercing practice as when I had my nose pierced for the first time they used a gun. Anyone into piercing knows a gun shatters the cartilage whereas a needle separates it and should always be used over a gun for non ear piercings. A friend had his first tattoo done there many many years ago, a celtic band that went around his upper arm, and it wasn't 'level'. Another friend wanted a very simple custom design but was put off by the hefty price tag charged to design per hour. Obviously they're doing something right as they've been there as far as I can remember yet personally I would not get anything else done there.

The best in Leeds have combined to open up this brilliant tattoo shop. The shop is set in a really nice location, a minutes walk from millennium square and the decor is right on trend. I highly recommend Chris, he's done alot of work for me and has great experience as an artists. He puts his all into his artwork, creating something original with all the aspects you want. All the guys in Black Crown are great to talk to and aren't your typical tattoo shop types, you know tattoos on the face, huge muscles, not interested in anything you have to say types. Their hourly rate is £70 which is pretty average for fabulous artwork. If you're paying any less than £60/hour you're probably at the wrong place. He is amazingly talented, very quick and super imaginative. He knows his art and what will look good and he doesn't commit to a piece unless he is 100% about it (which helps when it is going on your skin forever.....not that some other artists feel the same!) I would recommend this studio highly. From the minute you walk in and witness how clean it is, to the stunning, gentleman's club decor, this studio fills you with confidence. Looking through the portfolios on display only cements this feeling. Only thing is that you need to book in advance, but if you're flexible (unlike me!) then you should be fine.

Not to fear, however, because the two guys who work in this place are skilled - my friend and I left a fair few hours later (they take their time, but its worth it), with him ecstatic what the artist had done on his upper arm. I'm no tattoo fan, but I can appreciate a good one when I see it, and (since he took the bandage off) I've had nothing but appreciation for my mate's body art.

There is much talk about central tattoo parlors and Station often goes unoticed, especially by students in the area. The clientele seems a little older than studio's such as RED. I am one of the many that dismisses this studio as my tattoo's have all been done else where, nevertheless I have heard nothing but good reports about Station, especially on the design front! The two blokes that run the shop seem to have a sincere passion for their work and see their tattoo's as an at form. They don't seem scared to take an active role in designing and drawing which I feel really assures customers. Prices seem very average, if not a little lower than city center prices and the customer service seems to be really, really superb. For a tattoo with a personal touch, drawn and inked by an artist who takes pride in his work this is your place. This is not a dodgy little tattoo and piercing joint, these guys love their jobs which is evident by their roaring trade.

I spoke to the owner Sam and asked about their hygeine procedures. She insisted on showing me around and explaining exactly how they do things - very reassuring. I've been in some tattoo/piercing places where they sneer at you for any question you dare to ask, but this couldn't have been more different, she was happy to chat and answer everything. Since the jewellery they had in wasn't quite right for my ear she recommended somewhere I could get a suitable piece (another point in favour - wanting to do things properly rather than just take my money) so all in all I went back there about four times before actually getting it done - got a friendly and helpful reception each time. It's a slightly tricky and painful piercing, but it helped that I felt assured that Sam knew what she was doing, and she was the right mix of sympathetic and businesslike. She asked me a couple of times if I was ok or needed a drink of water, but didn't fuss too much or prolong things - perfect for a wuss like me! Plus she asked if she could take a photograph at the end which made me feel like a celebrity, always nice (delusional? :p ) I ended up with a wicked piercing and some good advice on aftercare with a free bottle of their saline solution thrown in. If I decide on another piercing I'll be back here in a heartbeat.
