My wife stayed at Fairmont Hot Springs Resort on a 2 Day Bed, Breakfast & Dinner package. The…read moreaccommodations and resort hot springs pool were great, the service provided by staff, also great, all were very friendly. The food, NOT so great overall, we had all of our meals in the Mountain Flowers restaurant.
On Sunday, my wife had the New York Steak with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables for dinner. I had the Glazed Atlantic Salmon with garlic mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The steak was wonderful, the salmon was wonderful and well portioned and the garlic mashed potatoes where absolutely Devine. The seasonal vegetables for both our entrees were too "woody", they were not even cooked al Dente, they were hard and difficult to cut.
On Monday, we both ordered the Glazed Atlantic Salmon with garlic mashed potatoes for dinner and asked for extra mashed potatoes because we did not want want raw seasonal vegetables again. Our server came back and apologized and stated the kitchen did not have enough extra mashed potatoes for two, so we ordered soup as a substitute for extra potatoes. Then our server came back about five minutes later and apologized again and stated they were out of mashed potatoes.
My wife then ordered rice for her salmon entree and I ordered fries, both of those decisions were a disaster. The white and wild rice combination had no taste whatsoever, it tasted like it was cooked in water, drained and thrown on the plate, no seasoning, no stock ... no nothing .. It was bland to say the least.
On the Sunday night, I was served a very generous and appropriately sized portion of salmon but on Monday, both of our salmon portions were about 1 1/4" wide, much smaller than the night before. It looked like the salmon was portioned smaller and rationed so the kitchen did not run out. I have attached photos to show the two salmon entrees from from Monday night.
I am very surprised that a kitchen can run out of mashed potatoes, a root vegetable that lasts forever and is easy and quick to cook, especially for a commercial kitchen. It was an option for 9 out of the 10 MAIN entrees in the Mountain Flowers menu.
On Tuesday morning, I had the Belgian Waffle for breakfast and my wife had the Hot Springs Style breakfast. My waffle was not a Belgian waffle, it was a regular round waffle, with one strawberry on top and a ramekin of berry compote and a ramekin of whipped cream and a mini carafe of syrup. My wife ordered her eggs "over medium", they were not even cooked "over easy", the eggs still had uncooked albumin in them. Our server dropped his cleaning rag on the floor, my wife brought it to his attention, he stepped on the rag, picked it up and he as well as another server used that rag to clean tables after that point.
Staff were great but management really need to tune up the efficiency, hygiene rules and quality control in the kitchen. I have had no problems with food at a Denny's and I expected more of this restaurant.
