Service is always great! Food is fresh and amazing. Trendy atmosphere, always filled with people.

I've dined here multiple times and have given this restaurant more than enough chances before finally deciding to leave a review. There are certainly some good dishes, and the waitstaff have consistently been excellent. Always professional, attentive, friendly, and not intrusive. Unfortunately, the food quality and management experience have been inconsistent enough that I can no longer recommend this restaurant and am bothered enough to write a detailed review. The biggest recurring issue has been the steaks. I have personally sent steak back twice because it was extremely tough and cooked incorrectly, only for the replacement to still be disappointing. I've also experienced the same issue with people dining with me on previous visits. At this point, it feels less like an isolated mistake and more like a consistent kitchen and management attitude problem. Tonight was the experience that finally prompted me to write this review. My parents took us out for a birthday/anniversary dinner, and what should have been a special evening became extremely disappointing.. My boyfriend was initially served an entirely different dish from what he ordered. When his meatloaf eventually arrived, it came so late that most of the table had nearly finished eating. Unfortunately, it was not enjoyable. He described it as essentially a brick of ground beef, seared on both sides, with sauce poured over it. That is not what you expect from a restaurant at this price point. My dad ordered a medium-rare steak. It arrived barely pink, extremely tough, and difficult to cut and chew. He was eventually given another one, which was cooked more appropriately, but it was still very tough. His prawns and potatoes from the first plate were also served cold only steak warm. My mom ordered the butter chicken. Before even tasting it, the texture and appearance looked unusual. The sauce had an almost pumpkin-purée consistency and tasted predominantly of tomato and pumpkin, with very little of the spice, richness, or creaminess you would normally expect from a butter chicken dish--particularly at a higher-end or cuisine restaurant. (this dish is special from a chef who works there, was very excited to try it. I bet he makes it great) For balance, I ordered the AAA beef melt, and it was genuinely very good. So I know the kitchen is capable of producing food that hits the mark. That honestly makes the inconsistency more frustrating. The service from our waitress, however, was excellent. ALL of the waiters/waitresses, EVERY visit have been wonderful! She was attentive, professional, and clearly embarrassed and upset by what was happening despite having absolutely no responsibility for the kitchen's mistakes. We made a point of being polite and reassuring her that we understood it wasn't her fault, and we left her a cash tip directly to keep because we felt she deserved to know that her service was appreciated, she didn't cook the steak. the waitstaff deserve credit as they have consistently been the strongest part of our experiences here, but the repeated issues with steaks, incorrect and poorly executed dishes, cold food, and dismissive management have ultimately outweighed the positives. But what was particularly disappointing was the management response tonight compared to past visits. The manager was dismissive and, at one point, wouldn't even acknowledge my dad. Watching him sit there feeling genuinely disappointed during what was supposed to be a special family dinner, especially after almost losing him and the far drive for them to get here was incredibly uncomfortable and disappointing. After repeated problems with the food, the lack of accountability, empathy, or understanding from management was ultimately what left the worst impression. The bill was around $200 even after a 50% reduction on the steak and the food left uneaten from my father's plate. At that price point, mistakes can happen--but how they are handled matters just as much as the mistake itself. I have worked in kitchens before, so I understand that individual dishes can occasionally miss the mark especially when busy. I've also seen these same dishes prepared properly here, which makes the repeated inconsistency even more puzzling. My impression is that there may be a recurring issue somewhere in the kitchen with a specific person on the grill/prep process, because the problems seem too consistent to be random but it isn't every day. After tonight, we've decided not to return. That is a shame, because there is clearly potential here, and some of the food really is good. But a five-star restaurant comes with five-star expectations, and the food and management have simply not delivered that consistently, and unfortunately to my family not at all. read more

Came to the Heid Out for dinner on a Friday night while I was passing through Cranbrook. What a lovely place! They brew their own beer and there's a great selection. I chose a lighter beer that the server recommended. It tasted crisp, refreshing and delicious. Wasn't as impressed with the Tuna Poke Bowl though. It was ate really mushy. The rice noodles were overcooked and there was very little tuna pieces. It was missing some spice...wasabi. I would give it a three star at best. Service was great and the view was beautiful...I could see the mountains from my table. I may give this place another try when I'm passing through again. A wonderful evening on the patio at Heid Out. They do not take reservations for evenings. We arrived at 5:30 and sat on the patio. Our server was Justin and he took very good care of us. Wine prices are reasonable. My husband had a bowl of mushroom soup and it was very good. I had the jager schnitzel with spätzle and vegetables and it was good. The breading was crisp and the meat was tender. The mushroom sauce was very sparse and I felt it should have been more plentiful. The sauce was almost like it was spread on with a knife rather than ladled on with a spoon. My husband had the steak sandwich and it was wonderful. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered, beautifully seasoned and served on top of homemade sourdough toast. We shared a strawberry rhubarb strudel for dessert. It was served nice and hot. The strudel had a nice flaky crust and it come with a good serving of whipping cream. It was very good. It was a great evening out. More sauce on my schnitzel would have made it perfect. read more

Overview: We came here on a week night and were surprised to see a live band playing in the restaurant! The atmosphere was lively, the waitresses and waiters were helpful, and the drinks were great. We would definitely come back again. Food: 1. Fish and Chips: The dish was well cooked and had great flavours. The fish was crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. Would recommend. 2. Veggie Burger: The beets and sauce inside the burger really gave it a nice flavour. Would recommend. 3. AAA Alberta Beef Melt: The beef slices were very tender and melted in my mouth. The au jus was well seasoned and tasted great with the sandwich. Would highly recommend. 4. Cod Tacos: The fish was well cooked, but lacked some flavour and tasted bland. 5. Heid Out Burger: The BBQ sauce had a nice flavour, but the beef patty itself was a little under seasoned. 6. Char Siu Beef Wrap: The portion size was good and the enoki mushroom had a great favour. The beef however, lacked some flavour and tasted bland. 7. Spicy Pickle Sticks: Well seasoned and the pickles were still crispy. Paired well with the cider. Drink: 1. Red roof cider: This was probably one of the best cider I've tasted. It was a little on the sweet side, but I would still recommend it. 2. Flight of Beer: A great way to taste some of the restaurant's beers. Atmosphere: Lively and a good spot to relax after a long day of work. On Monday evening, we had a fantastic dinner on the patio at the Heid Out. When the server asked how I liked my salmon, I knew we were in for a special treat. The salmon was flavorful and the Sauteed onions on the salmon were delicious. My wife had the daily special, which was a prawn pasta in a cream sauce which was also excellent. We had six at our table and the drinks and entrées were exceptional for all of us. Better than dessert was meeting Heidi and finding out that she was an old family friend. Good selection of quality beers, but what makes this place really shine is the food. You can't go wrong with thPan Seared Haida Gwaii Halibut, the Salmon Sandwich, or the Pike Bowl. Can't recommend this place enough. It's a brewery with a gluten free and vegan menu along with their regular menu! GF beer also available. Not clear about celiac safe, but GF and vegan at a brewery?! Yay!!!! My wife had the Buddha Bowl - beautiful and delicious! I had the pretzel bun with Boursin cheese spread.....to die for! Dark stormy porter on point. Great place to eat if you're looking for a mix of fresh food, yummy bar favorites and great drinks combined in one place. Sadly, we are just traveling through so won't be back, but so grateful we stopped here. We were passing through town en route to Fernie. This was on my list of breweries to visit on the trip, and when I saw they had a special vegan menu, we knew we had to eat lunch here too. First, the beer: 10 beers on tap, with flights of 4 x 5 oz pours for only $6.25, a great deal. Beer quality is pretty mediocre, with their Scottish Ale being the standout. Second, the food: we both got the Manchurian cabbage wrap, which comes with marinated fried vegetable balls with a delectable sauce, and a nice array of veggies - with choice of side (soup, if vegan, salad, or fries) - for $16. Very nice place here in Cranbrook on our way to Canmore. So far we've hit quite a few breweries along the way crossing 4 states. Now here in Canada. Love the Rockies in the background of this city and love the people. Now for the food. We ordered the Stuffed Yorkies with au jus....just so yummy. Last time we had yorkies were in SF at The Wayfare. There were plenty of beef stuffed in that belly of the yorkies. We ordered Calamari and it was as expected. It's hard to go wrong with this dish unless they don't fry it or batter it properly. We also ordered the Roasted Roots Salad tossed in vinaigrette. It was so much food that I couldn't finish my salad. That Stuffed Yorkies stuffed me up good. To go with the food, we ordered the Elephant Run IPA and Dark Stormy Porter. Very good stuff. And for the service, no one beats the Canadians for being friendly and great host. Service was great. I highly recommend making stop here if you ever come across this place. Just too bad we are leaving tomorrow. read more

This was a great place to eat. They have a pub/kid side and a bar/adults side with. Full bar. We had to hole up and spend a couple of hour here and wait for a storm to clear cause we were on our motorcycles. The ladies were hospitable and friendly and humored us by letting us place dice games while we waited. They never quite gave us enough ketchup or mustard but we just kept asking for more. Portions are smaller in Canada than the US. Their carrot cake was awesome! Worth the stop! read more

A hungry group of Americans were making their way through Cranbrook and were in need of sustenance (in the fries & gravy variety). While driving along the 3, I thought we might have to suffer some fast food, but screw that I said to turn into the "downtown", and we'll search. Within seconds we saw a corner restaurant with big open doors showing what looked like a new and nice establishment: The Heid Out. And it's a brewery! (so after screeching our tires into a parking space, these foreigners made their way inside). This place opened earlier this summer. So in here you will find a huge dining area, and nice bar, and it is all beautifully designed with warm dark wood tables & chairs. When we were here they had a decent beer list with many of their standards. I don't think they're used to IPAs up in Canada....I coulda have sworn our server called an I P A an "eye-puh", but maybe he was talking in Canadian. Either way, their IPA was ok (could have been hoppier), but it was decent. What stole the show for me was their beer with ginger in it it. I've had non-alcoholic ginger beer, but I've never had a beer with pureed ginger in it. This is good medicine for your body. The food menu was a total surprise. Lots of really good gourmet options here---even their fries and gravy seemed fancy. I went with a salmon quinoa salad ---WHAT???? Quinoa in Canada????--- Yup, we were rollin' gourmet in the Brook which is Cran! This dish was delicious! It's funny because at our table 5 of us went with some variant of salad (they must have though..."these guys must be from California") ;) Our server was very nice, funny, and informative. The place was not too full when we entered, but it filled up during the evening. There are TVs to watch while you're chillin'....any guess on what was on TV? Yup, you guessed it: HOCKEY. It's a nice spot for a casual lunch or dinner. They have 6 or 7 beers on tap and a good range of pub food. The atmosphere is nice and the decor is modern. I love coming in here mainly for the beer and the environment. The food is not bad but I was disappointed with the carbonara pasta. I've also tried their salads before which are very good and burgers are great too. We are back here again two weeks later and ordered the chicken fig flatbread pizza. Loved it! The savory and sweet taste combo is very good. The girls that served us were super nice! read more

Spouse had high hopes for rhubarb tart, but found it small and unremarkable, especially for $8. I took a chance on the pulled pork Rueben. Suffice it to say, some foods are better kept apart. Definitely less than the sum of the two sandwiches. The side of gravy for my French fries was not worth the $2 upcharge. A stop on the way to our final destination. It was a great restaurant in Cranbrook that we were thankful to find on the lark. Ordered the cheese steak sandwich, arugula and beet salad with chicken, quesadilla, kids beef sliders. The restaurant was easy to find via Google, although there was only street parking. We had to walk a few blocks back to the location after finding a spot to park. The restaurant was clean and tidy, the staff was friendly and accommodating, the wait was minimal, the bathrooms were clean and neat, the food was ok. The portion of chicken included in the salad (4 thin slices) was minimal compared to what was described on the menu (half a chicken breast)- definitely not worth the upcharge. The food was great as was the service. Prices are reasonable. A couple of points to consider: there is no kids menu. This makes it difficult to order for them if you bring them. The salad leaves were a little too big. Also we asked for a medium steak but it was closer to rare. It was still outstanding though. Check it out. read more

We arrived after a rain storm so patio was free. Our server, Luke, was fabulous. He was really slammed because his earlier tables moved inside cuz of rain. Passing through Cranbrook and was looking for a fun, local restaurant with a menu with local flair. We found it! Service was great, nice menu and drink options. Definitely recommend going with the beef teriyaki soup as a side with your meal, it was outstanding. My wife had the cod tacos and they were awesome!
