We utilized Home Instead at the request of the Senior Care center where my mother was being treated…read morefor dementia. The care staff claimed that the agitation that my mother was having was more than they were prepared to handle despite them being a full nursing care facility with a cost of over $380 per day. We hired Home Instead for Companion Care since the center staff is the one required to perform the nursing duties. The Home Instead staff were compassionate and did offer some comfort to our mother. We found from discussion with the Home Instead staff that the care given to our mother by the Senior Care Center's staff was subpar. In addressing this with the Senior Care facility, it created a backlash for these poor Home Instead care givers. The senior management of Home Instead informed us that their staff is not allowed to discuss with us the nursing care given to our mother. That was against their policy. As a result, despite having Home Instead presence, my mother continued to receive poor treatment which lead to an emergency room visit. What is Home Instead's policy if it is not for the well being of the patient they are servicing? BEWARE - If you utilize this company - they are tied to the Senior Care Center and their loyalty lies with them- not with you their customer who is paying $26 an hour for their services. Never have I witnessed such a corrupt and dysfunctional relationship. Do yourself a favor - hire your own companion direct who will speak truth to you about the care given to your loved one and not be afraid to be an advocate for them.
