They have an active staff, excellent programs and everything seemed very organized. This parish is one of the closest parishes to my new home, so I may visit it more in the future. Everyone was very friendly, excited to be there and sweet. We had a visiting Priest say the Mass, Father Paul. Father gave an excellent homily (sermon) on the reading from the Gospel of St. John, (John 4:1-42), when Jesus Christ asked the Samaritan woman at the well for a drink of water. If you take a look at the Scripture, as Fr. Paul explained, you'll see four (4) things happening there: 1) At that time, only the outcasts went to the well at noon, this was because it was the hottest part of the day and nobody wanted to be out in it. The woman was most likely a prostitute. Jesus was waiting at the well for the outcasts and people nobody wanted to be around. 2) Jesus reached out first by asking for a drink of water. Jesus was Jewish and the woman was a Samaritan, at the time, the two peoples did NOT get along! The Samaritans worshiped on the mountain and the Jews in Jerusalem - BIG DIFFERENCE! The two peoples DID NOT MIX! 3) Jesus initiated the dialogue while He was alone with the unknown woman. That was completely unheard of in those days! Women and children were treated as second-class citizens; seen but not heard. This was a signal, of the equality to come, that Jesus Christ would initiate. This is one of the biggest reasons people leave other faiths/religions: the way good, faithful Christian men treat their mothers, sisters, wives and daughters. Women in many parts of the world, and in other religious traditions, aren't treated well or even near equal. Christians are different. 4) The Samaritan woman went into her town, told her people, and they followed her to the well to meet Jesus. After He spoke with them, and stayed with them for 2 days, they accepted Him as the Savior of the World! This was a signal! That the Kingdom of God, was to go way, way beyond the Jewish people and Israel! God's Kingdom was destined for believers to worship Him in spirit and truth! BIG CHANGE ON THE SCENE! Men and women are created as equal people in the eyes of God! Though our bodies are different, men and women are literally designed to fit together - in order to create life! Our Spiritual roles are different yet complimentary to each other. It all balances if you see the bigger picture. We are His plan! Dig it! At each Mass we read a passage from the Old Testament, the Psalms, a New Testament Letter and then a Gospel. It's the most Bible-packed event you'll attend outside of a conference or revival meeting! We also receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ - which is the main reason Catholics attend Mass! I have attended Mass for 70 years and never met a priest like Fr. James. Every week at the end of Mass he will asked if any of the members have a birthday or anniversary in the following week. And he will ask every individual their birthday or anniversary date. At the end we sing Happy Birthday! Many members feel that someone really cares. He is funny, kind and very spiritual. Doctrine preaching…read more In this world of false doctrine being preached we were happy to hear the word of God! We read bad review but it didn't settle well with our spirit. We met a couple at CVS pharmacy downtown They prayed with us at the pharmacy and we needed it! They ended up being pastors at this church and invited us so we attended. We will be back this is the first church where the pastor was preaching true doctrine in its entirety. Not fancy - not a Hollywood church at all. So far as unfriendly we were treated with love period. People go to churches expecting to much and get hurt often. Remember the church is like a hospital people go to get healed and loved on. So when you encounter anyone in the body of Christ not reflecting our savior they simply let the human side reign. We all Battle in our walks. We will be back if not make this our permanent church as we reside downtown phoenix so it's a great location. False doctrine the pleasing good word mixed in with some scriptures is taking people away from God. This church is truly in the good fight during these end of times tribulations and we were seeking out the real doctrine preachers. FOUND IT! Praise God!
