Had a wonderful massage here at Bliss. Curtains are the dividers. Took a moment to process that, but felt comfortable once I laid down. They definitely prefer cash, and for the price of their massages - a tip shouldn't be of concern. These other reviews talking about their 20% tip are crazy to me. I moved from the Coty and was paying double-triple for just the massage let alone the tip. I will say I have seen people post about being "sore" even with deep tissue, I do t believe you should be sore once you leave. I've had excellent deep tissue massages all over the world and haven't been sore. I believe this comes from lack of experience, but everyone starts somewhere. Unless you're at the top of your profession I don't see how anyone can knock the newcomers To their field. My first massage here, I was sore afterward and wasn't thrilled about it but understood the skill level. I still had a wonderful massage, and will go back. I may try out other massage therapists in a venture to find the one that works for me, but I'll definitely go back. They are very skilled and know what pressure points to use, I have been a loyal customer since I moved here a year ago. I used to get full body massages here years ago and had great experiences. I came here for the first time in a long time yesterday evening and realized that I had neck pain by the time I went to bed. This morning my neck and shoulders are swollen and I can't move my head at all. So much fluid buildup. I researched what could cause this and I read that too much attention and pressure in one area can cause this. Also bringing heat to the area after the massage is known to make it even worse, she used hot stones as well as a hot towel afterwards. I feel that a masseuse with proper training would have known this information and I would not have walked out worse than I went in. It's unfortunate. read more

This massage spot is anything but one. Honestly one of the worst, least relaxing massages I have ever received. The only reason I am not giving this place 1 star is because of how friendly the staff is and how unbeatable the price is. To begin, this location does not have actual massage rooms. It is one big area separated by curtains. So any other guest entering, loudly stomping up the stairs, the staff talk etc can be heard during your massage. This completely removes the relaxing aspect of the massage. During my massage two girls entered the location talking loudly and at no point were they asked to be quiet. I finally asked my masseuse if she could tell them to quiet down a little. Next, there is one bed sheet thing draped over the massage table. When the guest before us left, it did not even look like they changed this sheet before asking us to lay down. I had to ask them to change it before they did which is absolutely gross. Lastly the masseuses used a lot of elbow which actually hurt more than felt good. I honestly would not recommend this massage location and would recommend that people stay clear of it. read more

Not expecting much at all for such a low rate but.. never the less, the following ensues: Back had been aching all week so I thought I'd take the cheap route and hit up Bliss Massage over the weekend. Picked the $30/ 1/2 hr table massage. 10 minutes in and the phone rings, inside our room. Strange, I think, one would have thought the phone would have been left outside. I know I saw someone else working out front. But, alas, not only does the phone ring, but she answers it! Now she's trying to reschedule some poor lady's appointment and do my massage at the same time. It goes without saying that the english here is not the first language. I can hear this exasperated women through the phone who, and not from lack of clarity, is completely unable to communicate to my masseur/ receptionist when she would like to reschedule. FINALLY, after almost 5 minutes of this nonsense I just sit up and tell her what this woman is trying to say. I get a lot of WHAT? WHAT YOU SAY? And finally she actually gives me the phone to talk to her... during my massage, and leaves the room to get a calendar. I talk to her, confirm the appointment, point out the date and we go back as if this is completely normal. HILARIOUS 5/5 Stars, will definitely return. No frills deep tissue massage. My husband and I went today. We compared our massages afterwards. He said he wasn't provided a cover and started out in his underwear for this reason. The massage therapist pulled down his underwear so he just took them off at that point rather than have them bunched up around his ass cheeks. She got on top of him while he was face down and walked over his body. He said he was basically uncovered ass out during the entire session except when she asked him to turn over. Then, he was given a very thin covering. Expectantly, he got cold during his session. My therapist at least provided a small towel, but alas, it kept falling to the side during the massage. My ass was mostly exposed the entire time I was face down. I also got cold. If you're very modest, then this is probably not the best spot for you. Having said this, the massage was pretty intense as far as pressure for both of us and we're used to deep tissue massage. We both had to ask for lighter pressure. There's also a bit of a communication barrier. In the end, we both laughed about our experience as we walked away with oily ass cracks! Also, the prices showing on Yelp are not accurate. When I first walked in I wasn't sure what to think. No walls around the massage tables , just curtains. Due to some good reviews I gave them a shot and I was glad I did! Best deep tissue message I have had! My wife and I did couples message and we both enjoyed ourselves. I would recommend they upgrade the bed covers to something more upscale and maybe some lavender incense to bring it together. I got the 55 minutes massage for $55 and it was decent. TL;DR: affordable and decent. Respectful but with no body shame. Language barrier will make communication difficult. They WILL tell you to tip (20%), if you tip less than that they will ask you to tip more. First, they lead you into the private room where they instruct you to undress and lay down. Shortly after they'll come back in and remove whatever article clothing you didn't remove yourself. And here comes the warning: if you are body conscious, are easily embarrassed, then this is NOT the place for you. The massage is great but, like I said, they have very little body shame; they will remove unnecessary underwear and they will massage "hard to reach areas" with no though of how uncomfortable it might be for you. No funny business going on here, they are very respectful but, again, they are not going to shy away from massaging those buttocks or hamstrings so if you don't want any "hands near your junk" (like another yelper mentioned) then you should find another place. After they get you in the duff they will start "mapping" your back and checking for tense areas, no complains here; they get your upper and lower back, hamstrings, buttocks, legs, feet and arms. Near the end they'll pull out those heavenly hot stones and finally clean the oil fwith a warm towel. Front area massage is a bit quicker and left for the last 5 minutes of the session. Again, not too bad. If you are bothered by language barriers and prefer someone who understands more than "yes" or "ok"...find another place. Everything was great till we got to the end, and the reason for my 3 stars review: at the time you pay, they will TELL (not ask) you to tip. They will even tell you how much to tip. My own experience was something like this: me: thanks! *hands over $60* you can keep the change (i'm digging into my wallet to find another $5 to tip 20%). register lady: oh you need tip her a little more (I guess she though I was only leaving the $5 change I told her to keep). You need tip 20% or more. At this point I'm flabbergasted: I have NEVER been told to tip, much less to tip MORE. This just seems unprofessional to me. I understand tipping is not part of their culture but they do seem to take to it pretty well here. I ended up leaving $15 in tip for a $55 massage that was "ok", not great, just "ok". Let this be a lesson to you, the massage is NOT $55 and whatever tip YOU think you can afford or they deserve; the massage will be $55 PLUS what THEY think is a proper tip. Conclusion: if you are not bothered by any of the above, then this is not a bad place to get the occasional massage. Good luck! read more

On Saturday a friend and I were strolling down the mall and happened to walk by Bliss Massage. On a whim, we decided to go up and get their 15 minute chair massage. The massage went fine for the first part, not amazing, but you know this is a place called Bliss Massage and I'm only paying fifteen dollars. I never went in expecting anything like the amazing Rolfing sessions I've had in the past... To end the message the therapist (if I can even call him that) began to stretch my limbs. At this time he had me extend my arm at the shoulder upwards and bend my arm at the elbow behind my back. He gently pressed back and then unexpectedly ended with a surge of force. At this time I felt something in my shoulder pop and hurt slightly. I've never had any injuries or problems with either of my shoulders, so I thought this was odd. Later that night the pain intensified and several days later I came to the point of being unable to ignore it. I visited the UVa sports medicine clinic today and my fears were confirmed.... The AC joint in my shoulder is torn. In 15 minutes I went from having a perfect shoulder to a permanently damaged one. Bottom line: THIS PLACE IS NOT SAFE! If you think this could never happen to you: don't fool yourself. Before that night I never imagined I (a young, healthy, fit person) could be injured this badly in a 15 min chair massage. read more

This was the best massage I've ever had, and the cheapest too. I got package A, which is a 30 minute foot reflexology massage and a 30 minute body massage. The masseuse was very nice and not too chatty. In both the foot and body massage, everything she did felt like it was being done for a reason; there were no parts that felt too light or pointless. This is not a fancy place, but they do a good job of ensuring that it's relaxing. The lights are nicely dimmed and the music was pleasant and quiet. I also really like that they take walkins.
