I genuinely could not have asked for a better experience. I went into my overnight sleep study…read moreextremely anxious and honestly dreading it, mostly because I was worried I wouldn't be able to sleep and I've had some pretty awful healthcare experiences in the past. Jennifer completely changed that from the moment I arrived. The doors were locked when I got there, so I called when I parked, and Jennifer was already at the door waiting to let me in before I even made it there. She immediately offered me water and a snack, got me settled in, and explained everything that would happen throughout the night. She explained what she was doing every step of the way and made sure I was comfortable during the entire setup. What really made the experience exceptional was Jennifer herself. She was warm, funny, patient, reassuring, down-to-earth, and incredibly attentive. She somehow managed to be professional while still making the entire experience feel human and comfortable instead of cold and clinical. We talked and laughed while she hooked me up to what felt like approximately 47 million wires , and she made something I had been anxious about feel completely manageable. She was also incredibly compassionate when I became emotional during the night. She brought me tissues, reassured me, and never once made me feel embarrassed or like I was being difficult. When I needed to get up during the night, she was right there to help disconnect and reconnect everything and made sure I was comfortable before I went back to sleep. I also had to leave as soon as possible in the morning because it was my son's first day of school, and Jennifer remembered that. I happened to wake up at 5:09 a.m., and by 5:10 she was already speaking to me over the intercom saying she would be right in. There was apparently another patient having a study done that night as well, and I genuinely would never have known because she was so attentive and on top of everything. I actually told Jennifer before I left that I hated having to be there, but I was SO grateful that she was my technician. I even joked that she somehow made me willing to come back and do another sleep study, which is probably the highest compliment I can give. She gave me the biggest hug before I left, and after a night I had been dreading, I walked out feeling incredibly grateful that I ended up in her care. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and had cable TV, which was a nice bonus for an overnight stay. But Jennifer is absolutely what made this a five-star experience. JFK is very lucky to have her. Give that woman a raise. Seriously.

I understand the difficulties of the pandemic, however I have had appointments with other doctors and they seem able to keep up with their patients. I called in February and was told her March calendar wasn't ready. I asked if they could call me when it was ready and they said no, call back in March. I eventually called in May and got an appointment for an in-person visit June 1. That morning I received a call cancelling my appointment and offering me a visit the next day with a PA or a tele-visit the following week with the Dr. When I explained that there were changes in my condition that I thought necessitated a Dr to listen to my lungs, I was told June was booked. When I complained, the receptionist complained to me that the office contacted her over her holiday weekend and she didn't like being bothered. I understand that emergencies arise, but to inform me I can't see the Dr for the whole month is unacceptable. Obviously I will be going to a different pulmonologist, one who will actually see patients.

Dr. Brodner was very polite, respectful, listened to my answers carefully. He made suggestions and was direct in telling me to stop doing some of the things I've been doing. Overall, I highly recommend him. I've been in healthcare for 30 years. I don't mention that during my appointments. I want to evaluate their care based strictly on being their patient. I also leave my emotions out of my visit. For reference: I had the best Ortho surgeon and he had horrible reviews. NOT because he wasn't one of the best in the country, but because he was very direct and didn't chit chat. People lost their minds over that calling him rude and saying he had a horrible bedside manner. No... he was extremely busy and did not waste time on anything but necessary facts. I picked up on that immediately, and was not offended by it. Healthcare is inundated and I don't foresee it getting better... on the level/amount of patients we see per day and all of the additional data entry, chart reviews, and chart notes. Our society has become emotion driven without seeming to care it's also become a breakneck pace in healthcare. You don't have to leave your appointment feeling disgruntled if you enter it with patience and grace. Additionally, sometimes there is no clear answer or it's discovered over time. Dr's are not God and the pressure/expectations placed on them to be charismatic in addition to everything else they have to be is not reasonable. That said, I do agree none of us need to be rude or condescending either, if you arrive with patience and grace. I had asked a patient what was wrong because she was treating me horrible and I hadn't even begun her exam. She apologized and said she brought in her suitcase of things going wrong in her life and was beating me up with it. Be mindful of the energy you bring to the appointment.

It is now almost three months later and I am still having extreme sinus difficulties and have been back to his office several times to see what else could be done. I feel that I was just being passed off and now I have been told to contact a research hospital as there is nothing else that can be done. Extremely frustrating after going through with surgery which did little to relieve problem.
