Turns out I did myself a favour because not only are they party planners but they have a party supplies shop too. I was desperately in need for anniversary balloons of a specific colour, which I couldn't find anywhere. The party was on an Easter weekend and I was fast running out of time to find the balloons. I was relieved to find that Decorations 4U were open on Good Friday and they had a huge range of balloons for various events and in numerous colours. The staff members were very pleasant and friendly. They went out of their way to help and opened a little later for me to get there in time before they were closing. Great service!

The staff are so kind and helpful, the prices are fantastic and top of the market and products are always brilliant quality. I recently decided to switch helium suppliers and have decided to use Greetings house due to their unbeatable pricing. Penny was extremely helpful in finding me the canister that I required. She spent around an hour liaising with my local suppliers to arrange this for me. Checked that I had the correct nozzle attachment and placed the order for me. Oh wow. I have found crafty heaven and it is a trade…read morewarehouse in the Midlands. This place has every arts supply and events decor piece your heart could possibly desire - sequinned ribbons to artificial peonies to bubble wrap to cards and invitations. Everything comes in 30 different colours and is bought wholesale, so you can buy in bulk if you so desire and also keeps it affordable. We raided it for supplies for my sister's wedding - high quality paper and card for the table plan (home-made by my own fair hand!), a box of 50 wedding confetti pouches (such good value), 15 pretty jars and a tonne of coloured beads for centrepieces, artificial cherry blossom branches (they just fitted the theme), and a lifetime's supply of blu-tack. And that was only the first of several (awesome) trips. Here's the big fat catch though - you can only get in if you're a business owner as it's officially aimed at trade buyers not amateur craft enthusiasts like me. In this case I had a useful aunt with a shop who registered for an account and brought us along. You still can't just wander in though - you need to show ID and leave any bags in lockers. And thus its existence has remained a closely guarded secret ;) Looking forward to any excuse to get to go back!

Looking around at the places in the city, I wanted to have a Launch event for #BrumHour at a creative and fresh venue. The owner, Chandeep has been a great champion of BrumHour, so it felt right that the venue would be the best host. I went down to The Space for the first time at the start of August 2014 and the three rooms vary a lot in size. However, they are all painted a brilliant white with high ceilings and huge windows to let a lot of natural light in. The main room is the carter room and can host around 50 people. When I came to host my event at the start of February 2015, I had 30 people and 5 tables with creative businesses from around Birmingham to share their project work on them. Chandeep was very clear about pricing, and timescales and this gave me a huge confidence boost that everything would run pretty smoothly. I hired the venue for 4 hours and used it for a 2 hour event including setup and going live. It can be used as a dance and drama rehearsal space, a creative gallery, a small theatre room or even a board room! Check out the website for more photos.

I like businesses that go the extra mile. I like people who anticipate what will make my life easier. The Space scored massively on all these counts. So, we needed a small meeting room away from our busy office to strategize and plan. All our usual meeting options where full, other venues either couldn't be bothered responding or were to pricey or not quite right. Normally a local coffee shop or similar could fit the bill, but not for this kind of meeting. I knew of The Space through Twitter, as another Jewellery Quarter business, so I dropped them a line. I quick response confirmed everything I needed to know and prices where very competitive. Booking was super easy. We all arrived to be greeted by the helpful and friendly owner (I think) and shown around. Our room was perfect. Tea and coffee and biscuits provided, self serve. The tea mugs were neatly arranged, the tea spoons were ready in clean water, water jug and glasses all arranged on the table, the heater was on, the chairs and tables just right. What this attention to details means is that we could simply relax and focus on the business of the day. It was a great meeting and the venue and service received went at least some way towards allowing that to happen. Worth noting that although The Space is kinda in the middle of an industrial estate it's also very close to the bus routes on Great Hampton St, the JQ station and maybe 5-6 minutes walk from Snow Hill. You can also grab a nice lunch at the equally excellent The Lord Clifden if you need to, tho the venue does do meeting catering upon request. Highly recommended all 'round!

The food was all freshly prepared at the venue and the waiter staff were well mannered and helpful. The only reason I did not go the full five stars is because I there were some guests that had to wait for starters and some only received a part of what was on the menu. This may have had more to do with the emergence of unexpected guests but I can only hope that Steve and the crew think about this possibility going forward. Would recommend them without a second thought.

When I'm in there, a customer is discussing on order of balloons with the owner. 'Yeah, you want just a bit of (Aston) Villa colours in there. Not so it's in your face, no. A bit subtle, yes. So, we'll have them mainly in metallic and say 6 of each claret and blue. Yes' The owner then asks the client to email him some photos of the birthday venue so he can make sure that enough balloons have been orders to suitably deck the place out. That's service for you. There's also a small section for fancy dress, with a strong Hawaiian theme with plastic grass skirts and plastic flower bikinis. If you are planning a party, plan it with JB.

MARK TOLLISS - WHAT A GUY!!!…read more My husband and I got married at Moxhull Hall in July. Nearly two months on and our wedding guests are still talking and raving about how amazing our DJ was. From the very beginning the entire process with Mark was seamless. Due to COVID 19 our wedding day got postponed on two separate occasions but this was not a problem at all. He accommodated our new date and made the changes easy. From initial emails and calls, to our online chat before the big day, Mark was fantastic at communicating. He took any stress away, made us feel at ease and even took the time to get to know our love story, wedding party and guests so he could make references throughout the night - we knew we were in safe hands! On our wedding day Mark did not disappoint but instead exceeded our expectations! The music choice was just perfect, the dance floor was full the entire time and nobody wanted the night to end. Personable, professional and super talented. Mark you are incredible at what you do and we cannot recommend you enough!
Don't judge this store by its window display!…read more When we decided we were going to hire suits for our wedding this was the first place I thought of. Probably for the wrong reasons though. The wedding dresses I'd seen in the window had always reminded me of that TV programme 'My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding'. Bright, crazy outfits, where all tradition had been thrown out of the window, not really my kind of taste, but as it was local we thought we would just enquire. Thankfully the window display was not a full representation of Formal Affair. The manageress was really down to earth and had the experience and knowledge we were looking for. She gave us advice in regards to patterns and different looks and she didn't take offence if we chose not to go with it, she just wanted us to be happy. Everything we wanted, we got! There was a lot of different waistcoat choices and though they didn't keep all sizes in-store there was at least one of each pattern so we could see what worked together. We had it all confirmed within the hour and left feeling surprisingly satisfied. Generally you collect the suits a couple of days before your wedding and return them a couple of days after, yet we had a phone call a week before saying they were all ready to collect in-store...bonus! We booked and paid for a suit package when there was a deal on but it seems this deal comes around every few months so I'd suggest you keep your eyes peeled no matter how far ahead your wedding is. We were well within budget and the boys looked great!

(Yes he got a black eye for the honeymoon - bride Sheila was livid - but on the bright side, they made £200 out of it). The sheer accessibility of the location, however, meant that it was my brother's first choice to at least begin exploring garb for himself, best man (me) and ushers. Once through the door, he never looked back, and this is where we were kitted out - and very smart we were too; not like Gary, from 1987, preserved on bundled-off-to-Beadle VHS, all emotional during his speech at a Trusthouse Forte. The clothes arrived on the agreed collection day as promised, with all items present and thankfully correct - we had heard horror stories from friends about other stockists who had supplied trousers with a waistband like a hula-hoop. While the staff were pleasant enough, there was very little interaction as we became mere clothes horses during prospective fittings. Almost inevitably, I felt vaguely spoken-down to. But that's because they thought I was Gary from 1987. I wasn't though, I was a real boy.

I needed some shots for my business press packs of me in various poses from business-like to more laid back and relaxed ones. As a coach and business consultant I need to be both business like but also approachable so having the right photos was important to me. Rachel is extremely relaxed and she is very open to ideas, but like many of us, we just struggle as soon as we get in front of the camera to set the right tone. This is when Rachel comes into her own. Full of ideas and patience. I did various clothes changes with Rachel and she never clock watched once. She really took time to develop the scene and it all seemed very natural. I've been a model so it was hard at first for me to come out of 'model pose' mode, since that was not what I wanted to portray! Rachel got me out of the 'model mode' without me being aware of it. HA!
