I visited Blo in New Orleans for a Sunday evening wedding and booked hair and makeup. I appreciated the Sunday availability and easy online booking. My hair was done well using a curling iron set for lasting volume. Unfortunately, the makeup application was subpar--uneven eyeshadow blending and a messy red lip that had to be cleaned up. The most disappointing part was how rushed the final moments felt once her next client arrived. The stylist shifted from my incomplete makeup to pulling out my hair pins hastily. I was also told that gel eyeliner was not option due to sanitary practices, however this has not been an issue at other establishments. My stylist acknowledged we were behind schedule due to my full glam request-- yet the booking system didn't allow for that distinction, only offering a single makeup service option. I spent $155, then had to go buy a lipstick that suited my look and redo parts of the makeup myself, which ultimately brought my look together. My hair also didn't hold up well. I rely on these appointments to feel confident and relaxed before big events, but this one fell short. A friend booked a blowout around the same time and was also unhappy with the lack of volume. I'm sharing this to help Blo improve and to inform others booking in the future. read more

I am not from the area, and was visiting for a wedding. I decided to book for hair and makeup after the Bride had recommended a couple places, this being one of them, despite the mixed reviews. Once I made the appointment and wanted to confirm a few days before, it was impossible to get anyone on the phone. I ended up using their text service, which was fine. When I arrived I was directed to a chair by a very soft spoken, timid hair stylist. I basically had to walk her through every step of what I wanted. At the completion, it just looked messy and fell apart within minutes of leaving the salon. After the up do, I was planning on doing my makeup. I showed her a picture of what I wanted, and as she started, I could tell she had no idea what she was doing. She mixed two colors for the eye shadow together, and when I asked her to stop to see what it looked liked, it looked like I had been punched in the eye. I told her to please stop, and that I was not going to continue with my makeup. Which she took gracefully and I appreciated that. Please, if you are going to charge all this money for hair and makeup (which I don't mind paying if it's a quality service), please make sure that your employees know what they are doing. read more

I was feeling lazy one day before a dinner party on Sunday so I decided to schedule a last-minute appointment. So happy they were able to fit me in so quickly, but when I arrived, I realized why. Only two workers who barely spoke. The woman who did my hair seemed very soft and shy like she was new to the job. I have very long blonde hair so when I get a blow out, it's quite noticeable but this was more as if I just showered and lightly styled. I had to touch up the flips and light curls as there was almost no product used. It wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't memorable which is what you need from a hairstylist to return. When women go to a salon, we want excitement, relaxing, and just that "I'm going to feel SO good after this" atmosphere. Here, there was not. No music playing. You can imagine how awkward the silence was. I didn't even know they had a location uptown (that I drive past often) which shows me they are not getting the word out. The only way to be successful and separate from other salons is to be different and memorable. I couldn't picture using this location for a big day. read more

My party had three blow dry appointments scheduled. We were about 5 min late and my stylist said she would only be able to blow dry but not style my hair due to us being late. Even though I called and let them know. Once I finished, the other two in my party were still being worked on, able to have their hair styled. Not sure if they overbooked my stylist, but I was displeased that I wasn't able to get the full package of what I paid for. I was here for the yelp elite party. I had never been to one of these and I am hooked. I had so much fun and chatted with so many people. I walked in and everyone greeted me, the owners Roy and Jennifer were sweet as can be. I was met by Morgan, who organized the event, and she offered me little bites to eat and champagne. There were mini cupcakes vanilla and chocolate and Brut champagne with optional orange juice. I was so impressed. I was introduced to Justice? (hard to hear with all the blow drying) my stylist who was as kind as can be. We went to wash my hair and I enjoyed it, I just wish the bottom of my head had a little more attention, the top was well scrubbed and washed. Then I sat at the styling station where we shared fun stories of college and she began to style my hair. I chose the red carpet run way and it looked really nice after! My hair felt so soft and sleek. Then, I walked over to Eduardo the photographer and took several photos. We chatted a bit as well, as I waited for me ride. Overall, this place was accommodating and love a place where everyone is so friendly. read more

I booked an appointment 2 weeks prior to the date of my event. The morning of my appointment I was texted on my cell at 5 am .. she failed to give me her name, however, she said she would have been my stylist that morning. She informed me she had Covid and requested to move my 9 am appointment to 4 pm if I wanted to wear a mask. I informed her that I had the appointment set at 9 am because I had an event at 11:30 am that day. She did not text me back until I was 5 minutes away from the salon. She said "all of our other stylists are booked for the day sorry." I felt that this communication was completely unprofessional. I can understand people getting sick, what I can't understand is cancelling on your clients via text 4 hours prior to the appointment. Not to mention, it being 5 in the morning. When I arrived at the salon, there was a lovely employee who helped me resolve the situation to her capability. I then had to request to speak to the owner and ask for a solution. Things happen .. people call into work. However, there should be a plan for when things like this happen. I never made an appointment with a specific stylist, I made an appointment with the salon. The salon should have handled their employee not coming into work, not me. I wouldn't book with this company if your appointment is time sensitive. Unfortunately, it is not reliable. Also, don't bother calling their phone number on google. I tried calling over the span of three days and did not receive any calls back, not sure why the number is even there. read more

I called the night before when I found out I had to leave earlier than expected and left a message on their answering service saying I had to cancel. They called me the next day and said that since my message was left on their answering service that it did not count as a timely cancellation and they charged me $25 anyway. Disreputable and cheesy. We had booked an appointment for two and upon arrival were told our reservation was not available for the both of us. There was a booking mishap which led to my friend being unfairly charged an $80 cancellation fee without being told by the associate. We had been there for 20 mins with no service rendered yet the card was still charged incorrectly. Furthermore, the owner called to yell at my friend to take down the Yelp review in order to get the cancellation fee refunded. Customers beware: take your business elsewhere unless you want extremely poor customer service, chance getting yelled out and be charged unfairly. read more

Have you ever gotten a blowout and thought "well I could have done that at home"?? Then call Blo and ask for Renee. She has done two of the best blowouts I've ever had. Part of it are the products they use, but part of it is definitely Renee. I had a blowout there by somebody else that was good, but not Renee-good. It may have been my fault bc I mentioned that I didn't want too much product in my hair, but you DO want the product! That's what gives your roots that lift that lasts all weekend long. All times I've gone were in the morning and each time they asked me if I wanted coffee, tea or water. I think most salons have caught up to the beverage offering at this point but I always appreciate the extra care in customer service. They also have a frequent flyer program where you can buy 8 blowouts for the price of 7! I really love that you can make appointments at the 15 and 45 minute mark instead of the usual 00 and 30. She asked me what I want I said a blow out for a simple angled Bob cut, please give me a bit of volume. Had to keep telling her how to blow dry my hair. Make up person was friendly and talkative but other than my eyes I had to go back home and wash off half that very caked on shiny makeup and re-blow out my hair. Don't be me. Listen to the reviews. At 2:39 a woman called to see if I could come earlier because they didn't want one employee to have to be there by herself. I agreed and we scheduled me for 5:45. At 3:15 she called again to see if I could come earlier. I was pretty clear that I wasn't happy about it but I tried to be accommodating. The last thing I want is to be stuck with someone who is pissed that I'm making her work late. I thought we scheduled for 4:30 and I said I'd do the best that I could. I got there at 4:30 to have 3 people greet me at the desk with "You're Late!" I was astonished. They said I had scheduled for 4:15. Honestly, maybe I did. I was busy when they kept calling me to reschedule and I agreed to try to do them a favor. (it's Friday and they clearly just wanted to go home early). It took me ages to get there because at that time I have to pass through multiple school zones. The stylist tried to be helpful but I didn't want her to "do the best she could" and rush or have wait until she was finished with her next client to take me. None of this was her fault. Meanwhile, the woman who called me just sat looking at me with a dead stare. Other than "you're late" she didn't say much of anything except that she wasn't sorry for any of this. Another customer came in and said she had been rescheduled too. Does this place not have regular hours? Is it common practice for employees to continually change bookings so they can get out early? Don't allow client to schedule online if you don't intend to be open the hours you advertise. I tried to do them a favor and was met with nothing but rudeness and attitude. Horrible customer service. My hair turned out exactly as I wanted it (smooth with some body and curl at the ends), and this is no easy feat with my thick, long, frizzy hair. I was impressed that she was done in 45 minutes. I am SO glad I did! Sarah was a doll and was so easy to talk to and worked directly from my reference photo. Bachelorette or Girls Night Out Party Planners: AVOID I called and requested a reservation for a "Blo Party" TWO MONTHS in advance for a bachelorette party. The "manager" was extremely non-responsive and clearly disorganized. They never responded to emails and messages in a timely manner or at all. The 3rd time I called, someone "confirmed" the appointment for the party was scheduled. They sent me a "contract" a few weeks later [after I called again] to which I completed and provided within 30 minutes of receiving. I NEVER received any email or phone notifications after that stating the confirmed appointment had been changed. The bride to be and the bridal party walked into the studio on the day of the appointment and the personnel at Blo was extremely rude and said there were no reservations made. Based off the rude and condescending tone of the workers - I'd say they did us favor. Never trying this place again. At minimum, some professionalism and decency to other human beings would be a good start to running a business. read more

I payed,walked out and sat in my car, I could see her rolling her eyes because she was clearly annoyed. So unprofessional! Coming from California, I was expecting to pay more and for the appointment to take longer. Sarah was able to help me select a hairstyle that would be able to hold up on an overnight flight to Los Angeles. She then washed my hair and dried it within 45 minutes! I have VERY thick hair, so her ability to dry this quickly was super impressive to me. She even gave me some tips to keep my hair looking good overnight and for the next day. And she was right!
