Absolutely horrifying service. I got my hair done by an older stylist with an Eastern European accent. I told her that I don't want any hairspray because I am pregnant, but she sprayed my hair anyway. I told her specifically that I don't want any sort of spray because of the chemicals that could pose a risk to the unborn baby, especially during the first trimester. All I wanted was a simple wash and dry, and she didn't couldn't even get it right. I looked up the ingredients and what she used contained chemicals that could be harmful to fertility and the fetus. When I told her "no", she said, "oh, sorry" with a smiling face. Unbelievable. She did it on purpose. I don't recommend this place at all. read more

I had an event this weekend and had hurt my wrist so I decided to give Blo a try. I am very experienced with doing my hair so I feel like I can comment here. The experience I had was not great. The service was fine and friendly, but I brought a picture of my OWN hair as an example of what I'd like done. The stylist didn't know how to style shag bangs, and when she pulled out a round brush to curl them under, I had to stop her. She took massive chunks of my hair so that the overall look wasn't smooth at all. I left without saying anything and I tipped because she did do the work - but 3 hours later my hair is a mess. I paid $70 for this? Even I know that smaller chucks of hair work much better for a blowout so you can get the shine and smoothness that stays. Needless to say I will be redoing for the event. Waste of money and time. Would not return. read more

This was the first time I went to this place. Thought I'd give it a try since I needed a wash and style for an event and the place was fairly close by. Blo doesn't do any cutting at all, just as the name says, wash and blo dry to any style you want. Prices range from $35 and upwards. Parking around this place was all metered. I arrived at my appointment, the girl showed my pictures of styles I might be interested in. I picked out the style I wanted, but my hair didn't turn out that way. It didn't look horrible, but it didn't look great either. In the end, I had to somewhat re-arrange my own curls in t he bathroom. For $45.00, I think I'll try another place. read more

I love Blo on South Granville. Karly is my regular stylist and she is just fantastic, blow drying exactly what i want and so fast. I love everyone there, it actually feels like a little family, the vibe is fun and warm and comfy. . I now associate the place as a very amazing self care fun relaxation spot. Avoid for wedding services. I wrote them an email complaining to avoid giving a negative public review but they did not have the respect to even acknowledge my complaints let alone show an apology.....so here we are. I booked for my bridal party and myself. I did read all of the negative reviews, and positive, and decided to give them a solid chance to prove everyone wrong. They did not. My trials went okay. I wanted a very basic, not done up hair style which I thought would have been very easy but was not because the stylist was focused on a complex updo. My hair on the day was rushed and messy. For $90 on the day I would have expected a little more attention to detail. I had to brush and spray the crown of my head because it had strayed and clumps of backcombed hair. My makeup was done great and was the only successful part. My 3 bridesmaids did loose curls with basic half updos. Two of the styles curls didn't even make it back to the house to get their dresses on. The third has what she called a "rats nest" on her head for which she needed to redo at home. I was an easy going bride. Simple hair styles, simple wedding. I wanted to treat my wedding party to nice stress free hair. While they salon experience was fine and relaxing we all left disappointed. It added unnecessary stress to our day. We were late leaving as we had to fix our hairstyles and it made us self conscious for photos because we knew the styles were going flat as the photos went on. I would not return to this location for simple styles. Light curls or updos on fine hair. And I would strongly recommend avoiding for your special day. For $450 for 5 of us plus makeup, just pay the extra amount to use a specialized service. read more

I will NOT be going back to Blo. I had heard good things, but was sadly disappointed. My appointment got off to a bad start - it started about half an hour late. I showed the girl who was doing my hair a picture of what I wanted, a smooth, sleek and polished style, but in the end my hair was a mess of curls and flyaways. I pointed out that this wasn't what I wanted and she said "No worries, we'll just fix it with a straightener." NOT a success. Basically I paid $45 to have my hair look like I did a bad job of straightening it at home. Another note about false marketing: 30 minutes and 30 dollars? More like an hour and $40. I came to Blo to get my hair done for a reception in the evening. It was only my second Blo out ever, my first one having been done at Drybar at Nordstrom (which was fabulous). I was left unimpressed at the entire experience from the wash to the actual blowout. My stylist did not even try and wash my hair from the roots by the nape of my neck. I understand they may do this to prevent your clothes from getting wet, but I had advised that my hair is fine and so gets greasy easily, so it needed to be washed well. The stylist seemed not to care. Next came the blow dry and again, I was so unimpressed with the lack of time given to blow drying my hair. My hair dries very quickly as it is short and as stated previously, fine. However, the stylist managed to not dry it completely as when she was running the straightener through it, I could see the steam rising. Regarding the actual style, I explained quite clearly that I was looking for curls with a bit of movement but that I needed them to last until the evening ( my appointment was at 330). What the stylist gave me instead were very loose curls that she then combed out, I let her know that the style was too loose, and she re-curled the sections she had done. The problem with this is that once you curl hair, its very hard to re-curl it in a way that looks nice. That section of my hair looked messy and did not look similar to the rest of my hair. The entire appointment took 30 mins, and left a lot to be desired. I would not recommend this place or go back. read more

I was offered a blow out on the house after my experience last year. I've been reluctant to go but I'm glad I did. I had an engagement shoot today and needed my hair done. Carly did my hair. She made sure to look at my inspo picture carefully and added a couple helpful suggestions. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star had nothing to do with my stylist. She had recommended not washing my hair so the curls would stay but the store was out of dry shampoo so she couldn't do that. I'll be back again! read more

Worst experience at a blo bar of my life! She took 2 hours and 50 minutes to blow dry my hair yesterday!!! Not only was I late for the wedding but my hair is flat and awful. My appointment was at 3:00 and they didn't start until 3:20 as they were running late. By the time the stylist who finally came to style my hair as the other one I significantly dried my hair running her hands threw it for 20 minutes came, my hair was already 75 percent dried... which is fine IF SHE KNEW HOW TO DO A BLOWOUT! Not only did SHE TAKE 2 hours and 30 minutes on top of already waiting for her, but by the end of the 45 minutes she got help b another coworker who seemed so frustrated by watching her "style" my hair. I cancelled my appointment for this following Saturday as I have another wedding to attend and will never ever consider coming back here again. read more

My girlfriend and I booked blow outs back in September for our Christmas party. We got stuck in traffic and arrived 15 minutes late. Not ideal and for which we apologized as well as called to warn them. We were treated incredibly rude, told that they wouldn't have time to wash our hair and then received very disappointing service. Our party was only an hour later and both our curls had fallen before the party began. My stylist told me that they had 12-13 services to provide in their 7 hour shift so there was no time between clients to make up time. Not an ideal environment for building repeat customers. read more

My last two blow-outs have just not lasted as long as when I go to my regular salon. I think I will now save the salon for emergencies only. I still find most of the staff really friendly and kind. I haven't been to Blo in a couple of years and now I kind of remember why. I remember when they first started a good blowout would last me 2-3 days, I have medium-thick hair that will hold a curl well. I do my own curls all the time and have no problem making them last a couple days. I went in last week for a blo prior to my baby shower (being 7.5 months pregnant, the last thing I felt like doing was my own hair!) The stylist was really nice, but tried to get me to not wash my hair saying it would hold a curl better....what?? Why pay all that money and not get a wash? So, I went for the wash, obviously. She did a decent job blowing the hair out, but I'm surprised they don't use a round brush to create a nice, full, salon style blowout to create some volume, instead a paddle brush flattened out my locks prior to her quickly styling with a curling iron. I had to ask for backcombing because the top of my hair was SO flat! It looked great for about 25 minutes, my curls fell about an hour later and by the end of the day looked like I'd had absolutely nothing done at all. They've upped the price since the beginning which I understand, but honestly the service has gone wayyyyy down. I will not be returning when I can go down the street to a professional stylist, pay the same amount and get a proper blowout that will actually last the day. read more

I made a last minute appointment thinking I'd treat myself after a long day at work. I pointed to the exact picture I would like my hair to be set, but it didn't turn out at all. My hair was flat and the curls were messy. My bangs were looking funny (the stylist set my bangs with a velcro roller, but when released, there was a huge pin crease in my hair), so I tried to show how how I usually do my bangs. I guess any expert doesn't want to be told how to do their job, but I know what I wanted and was trying to communicate that. Frankly, I could have easily done the job myself, but was lazy and wanted to pamper myself. Instead of walking out of the salon with gorgeous hair, I just wanted to run to my car and go home and wash it out. With tip, I paid $45 and I just didn't feel like I got the service that was advertised. All in all, I will not be returning again. read more

It is funny that they advertise "wash blow and go". Been here 3 times and each time when I request to have my hair wash it is follow by a ton of excuses. I feel awkward that I have to forcefully demand a service that they advertise. I see from all the other reviews I'm not the one that is having this issue. The quality of hair dresser here cannot be compare to a regular salon. I wanted a pretty simple voluminous loose curl job. The first time was wonderful, I got exactly what I wanted. The 2nd time was iffy, it wasn't as voluminous as I wanted. So for the 3rd time I put emphasis on the "voluminous" because it came out rather flat the time before and the hair I got was a 60s looking hair style. Thanks. read more

This is my go-to place for a fabulous blow out. The stylists are really talented, always work hard to give me what I'm hoping for. Appointments are on time (vs. other salons that can leave you sitting for half an hour), stylists are friendly, fun and fast. Tips: Ask for a "senior" stylist. Be specific about what you'd like (instead of vague, and then being disappointed when you don't get what you hoped for). If you're not happy at the end, tell your stylist why - they'll fix it. I always leave feeling great, and the compliments aren't too hard to take, either. ;) read more

I've been to this place a few times and have been pretty happy with the results. Happy enough to keep coming back. When I was in a few weeks ago, I had an 8:45 appt on a Monday/Tuesday and the stylist that did my hair told me prices were only $35 on those days. With a $10 tip, that's a great deal and I decided to add this service to my beauty rotation:). We got back in town last week and I went in this morning for an 8:30 appt. When I went to pay, I was charged $45. I asked about the Monday/Tuesday rate and she said that didn't start until 9:00 am. I explained that last time my appt was at 8:45 and I was offered that rate and she said "That time is closer to 9:00, but 8:30 is too early for that rate". I said that wasn't clear in their advertising and she said her manager would get her in trouble if she gave it to me. I'm not sure if her manager is really that short-sighted and the employees operate out of fear or if she was just determined not to budge. She seemed like she could not have cared less. At any rate, I paid the $45, left the tip for the stylist (who was nice and did a good job) and walked out of that place for the last time. By the time I reached my car I'd been emailed my receipt with this reminder: Don't forget to book your blo out on Monday or Tuesday for $35! The $10 seems like a small amount to fuss over, but it's the principle--there is too much competition these days to leave feeling like your business (and future potential) is not appreciated. read more

I was not blown away by blo unfortunately. I went to get a fishtail braid in my hair for a wedding, I told the hairdresser I wanted the braid tight so it would last, instead it was a looser braid, so loose it had fallen apart by the time I got to the wedding reception. Boo. read more

Ok this was my first and last time at blo. I actually do a really good job on my own hair and do a blowout once a week. It lasts the entire week. This blow out didn't even hold till the evening. I've gotten my hair washed and styled at this location twice now and both times I've had a positive experience. My hair always looks and smells so beautiful after the visits. The staff who have styled my hair both times have been very friendly and conversational, and they were both skilled, competent and efficient during the washing and styling process. This location has discounted prices on their signature seven styles on Tuesdays too, which I just found out about! I would highly recommend this place anytime a fancy hairstyle feels like it would be a nice addition to an outfit for a (semi-)formal event. The prices are reasonable for the services being provided, and the 45 minute booking means that you're in and out and feeling fine without disrupting the rest of your daily schedule. read more

Came here on my birthday, and I got the best blow dry of my life! I love the vibe at the Granville location. My stylist knew exactly what she was doing. I asked for big, loose , sexy curls and that's exactly what i got. At first I was hesitant because she suggested not washing my hair, but now i know it was a great idea because my curls lasted me all night and until the next day . Another thing I loved was how fast it was, I was in and out of there in 40 minutes . Also, their blow drys are at such an affordable price compared to other hair salons in the area. It was an absolute amazing experience! The team waited for me as I was almost 45mins late! It was just before their closing time. They could have called me and just cancelled instead they confirmed that they would wait for me and assess. As I got there Sam took me right in. He was so efficient and fast. It took less than half an hour to do my hair. I have thick long hair. On top of that my hair stayed nice and curly for more than 3 days. I didn't have to do any touch ups or anything. It was great. Ladies, don't waste your time. You can do a better job at home. I never write reviews, but the service was so disappointing (and so expensive) I feel moved to write about it on Yelp. I have pretty short, thick hair; I asked for the stylist to use a straight iron to bring down the volume. As I mentioned several times, I don't like my hair to look big and full of volume. Guess what I got? Huge hair. I asked repeatedly for the straight iron, which she barely touched. Clearly, the Blo stylist just wanted me out the door. I'm going to have to wash and start fresh myself. I understand Blo just want to push people out the door and serve the next customer, but with tip, they are charging $48. That's a lot of money. Went to Blo at the south granville location 3 different times. First time the hair turned out ok. They really like to backcomb a lot. The second time the curls fell out in 15min. The third time the hair turned out really well but the girl dropped the comb ON THE FLOOR and continued to use it on my hair. No re-sterilizing or anything. And that was by a senior stylist. And i know she was because I had spoken to a manager and requested it. Not very likely to go back EVER! read more

I visited the Granville area Blo 3 times in December. The first visit was amazing. My hair doesn't hold curl well so I just wanted their basic blowout, the Red Carpet. Fabulous job. The 2nd visit I again requested the Red Carpet, but it wasn't until I looked up from my magazine that I realized she had mistaken the 'Hollywood' for the Red Carpet, and was curling my hair. She made it work with an impressive amount of product, although I was acutely aware of how flammable my head was for the rest of the night. The 3rd time was a disaster. I was shampooed by one woman, had my hair half dried by another, and my hair styled by a 3rd. After what happened last time, I made sure I had the menu with me so I could point out the style I wanted, again the Red Carpet. but again, she started curling my hair. After the mistake during my second visit, I was more vigilant and told her I didn't want curls. This seemed to completely throw her as she sort of stopped working on my hair and didn't seem to know what to do. After a couple minutes of rattling the tools, she assured me my hair would be what I requested and continued to curl my hair. Someone came up her her and asked if she needed help but she said no. I ended up with limp, bedraggled curls. At this point I asked her just to straighten it. Definitely a waste of money. read more

Had an appointment for 8:45 - I was starting the day early as I had any errands in preparation of a special evening. I arrived early as requested by Blo and to my surprise no one was there. I called the # listed and ended up with another location. I explained the situation and they said they would find out what the problem was and call me back within 5 minutes......I am still waiting and it is 3 hours later. I think what really annoys me is that they expect you to book your appt, they ask you to confirm and they want your credit card information so they can charge you if you don't show up and then they have the audacity to not be open when you arrive. Will not be returning and will not be referring Blo to anyone. read more

Went for a nice treat before a wedding - I hadn't been before so I wasn't sure which style I wanted a stylist seemed uninterested in my questions. Got my hair washed and i felt her long nails as she was washing - and my head was being thrashed around. Blow dry was equally uncomfortable until I said something. Her nails were scratching my scalp and the brush was so sharp as she tried. I got a fishtail and wasn't even asked if I liked it at the end. Started falling out by the time I got to wedding even though I was careful with it. Clearly my experience is not dissimilar to others here - surprised that the service has not be addressed. I had my hair done before my sister's wedding the other day. They actually opened early to accommodate all of us on a Sunday morning, which I really appreciated. I got a loose, Hollywood style curl, and it lasted all day and night (even after a windy ceremony down at the beach!) My stylist (I forget her name) was very friendly and personable. Had to book an "emergency" appointment as I sliced my finger and was unable to take care of my hair. Thankfully I was able to make a same day appointment. I called around 11am and was tended to a few hours later. While it was busy my stylist was ready for me. Having never been he asked what/why I was in (special occasion for example). I just said I cut my finger and he got the gist. A quick but relaxing shampoo followed but the blow dry and product. I liked that he asked if I used product and if it was okay for him to do so (bring on all the product!). Then the magic happened. In a few short minutes my frizzy mess started to turn into a smooth, sexy look. I just said I needed it to look professional but cute and he delivered. Bouncy volume with beachy waves/texture. I felt like a million bucks. A quick spray and I think I was out of there in about 30-35 minutes. The salon itself was a little dark, it was clean but felt dingy, like it needed a refresher but the chair was comfy and the service was fast. The other girls in there seemed happy with their looks and the stylists looked like they cared about their work and client's look, as opposed to just blow drying the hair. For the price; its great value and a huge time saver. Will definitely go back. read more

My stylist made a point of asking me what occasion I was getting the hairstyle was for, which I appreciated because she helped me tailor my look to the event. And this is a great location!
