Unconscionable practises. I purchased a very expensive wig (over $3800.00) only to discover it is HUGE for my head. I had a consulation and she assured me that once I got home and played around with it and used wig tape, all would be good. But it doesnt sit on my crown (top of my head) and when I pull it down so it does, the sides cover my ears!! Ridiculous! Instead of telling me the wig was too big (keeping in mind, shes placing it on my head, not me), they should have told me they would order the appropriate size. I have a very small head. No refunds, No exchanges, although you wont find that policy on their website or the receipt. Stylist forgot to mention it as did the receptionist taking my payment. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. They should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves. read more

Alison (one of the owners) starting cutting my husband's hair years ago and I always liked the cut. I ended up going to her myself after having a terrible, too short hair cut. She "stretched" my hair ;-) by leaving the front longer and just neatening up the rest. I now have a great chin length bob. Alison is a colour specialist as well. I have had compliments from my sisters who did not like it when I went blond. Now it is lighter with rich colour and brilliant streaks. It looks fantastic. Alison is always updating her skills and techniques. She listens to what you have to say and is a very lovely person. The.Dye.Lot also sells products at competitive rates. I always check out the shops that I sell for less. I used to buy everything there. But now I get my products from Alison because her prices are really good. Spent a few hours at The Dye Lot getting my hair died, washed, and styled. It was great, I liked the experience with my hair stylist who let me read magazines instead of trying to idly chat. One complaint is that the chairs were uncomfortable. The backrest is quite low (I guess they're going for style rather than function) and so I never felt like I could really sink back and relax while I waited for my colour to set. Weirdly enough, they have incredibly luxurious seats for the hair wash station. Wish I could've laid there the whole time instead of sitting in the chairs. read more

Unfortunately I had poor customer service. I feel bad writing a negative review but feel that others should just be aware of how explicit you may need to be. My experience here was unfortunately disappointing as I didn't feel heard on what I did/didn't want nor that my disappointment was acknowledged well. Despite going in on recommendation and describing what I didn't want I sadly was made to feel the stylist didn't agree with what I wanted and preferred her own idea more (as I received push back a few times). This made me uncomfortable (as someone who dislikes confrontation) and maybe should have been a warning sign. Why poor customer service? As a customer I feel I wasn't being heard nor clarified with. And most sadly I didn't feel cared for at the end. When, partway in I said it wasn't looking like what I hadn't wanted I received responses like 'really? well it can still go in a pony tail' (which was something I'd indicated I wanted, which was a good sign I guess). And at the end her response was 'well I'll see you in a year. Or maybe never again?' She did apologize briefly but I ultimately didn't feel she cared about me or my experience but how she was perceived which was sad. From someone who works in customer service I know how far acknowledgement of error and sincere apology can go. In this case I received neither which was disappointing. I know it's 'just hair' and will grow back but sadly I'm back to where I was 5-6 months ago when I wasn't happy with it. My friend recommended her so she this is unlikely the norm, but I just wanted to post a heads up for others to be aware of. Had high hopes for this place, but sadly it didn't deliver. Went for a simple blowout to check it out on a friend's recco. After years of going downtown to big name shops I've been thinking about finding a new salon closer to home. The salon receptionist was aloof and the wash and style had a 'get 'er done' feel. I've got a shoulder-length bob - was not asked how I wanted it styled. And it wasn't completely dried - a good blowout can last until at least the next day, this one didn't last the evening. I left with, yes, clean hair that was blow dried but no love shown. Even though I told the stylist that I might be shopping around for a new go-to. The stylist was more interested in talking about herself than asking about her client and trying to find common ground. Very little marketing savvy. Salon has a great location, hopefully customer service will get a bit more consistent. read more

I went to the Dye Lot based on the great yelp reviews, and I was super impressed! They moved their schedule around to fit me in, and Heather (who cut and dyed my hair) was really, really wonderful. I'm happy I've finally found a place that I want to go back to. They also are part of Green Circle, which means most of the waste is recycled - even the hair! read more

I've been here twice and had my hair cut my Cynthia. She did a great job and the physical atmosphere is very stylish. The hair washing station chairs are probably the most comfortable ever. The only negative thing about my experience was the chair at the hair cutting station. It only comes about a third of the way up your back, so you end up using your ab muscles more than you ever thought you would when getting a haircut. I'd still go back again though! read more

I recently decided to try out the Dye Lot after reading great reviews online. Was a little nervous trying out a new stylist to get blonde highlights on my brown hair but i am SO glad i did! Anna did such an amazing job highlighting my hair with the perfect colour to suit my skin tone. She really listened to what i was looking for and delivered spot on! I was looking to move from the salon I was going to and wanted something within walking distance from home. So, I started to look on Yelp and found the Dye Lot with 4 reviews raving about this salon. So, I decided to give it a try because I needed a real haircut and colour in the worse way!!!! So, I walked in and booked an appointment with a stylist that was also at the reception desk at the time. I knew I was taking a chance, but I really had nothing to lose at this point, my hair was outta control!! I asked about the products they use for colouring and shampoo etc. and she was knowledgeable about the products used. She also told me that for my first appointment, I will receive a free haircut with my colour. That was fabulous considering at my previous salon, I was paying almost 200 bucks for a colour and not much of a cut! My appointment day arrived and sat in Sabrina's chair, and told her basically to go ahead and give me a whatever cut she thought would work for me. I let her know that I'm an active person and don't like hair hanging in my face, but that was all I said! She coloured my hair and gave me a great cut!!! Everyone loves it and the colour looks great and seems to be a quality colour that actually didn't wash out a bit the first time I washed my hair (a couple of days after the cut and colour) which would always happen before! Great place!! Love the folks working there!!! Love the seats at the hairwashing stations!! OMG they are sooo comfortable you could fall asleep!!! Never had that happen before!! I've actually got my sister going there now (she sees another stylist there who is also great, Olga) and also my niece!! We were all unhappy with our previous place, so all 3 of us left and are now very happy at the Dye Lot! read more

I realize I'm crowding out the review page on this place but I just wanted to say, I have complete 100% faith in Sarah as a colourist. I came in with a big project... fixing an at-home attempt at balayage. She managed to not only improve it but make it better than I could have asked for had it been virgin hair. Our project needed more time than the appointment and I appreciate that she did not rush or leave me with wet hair.. she got Georgia to wash and dry while she spent time with her other client and it worked out perfectly. I will definitely be coming back here! I've never had my hair dyed before and didn't know what to expect, so when I met with Cynthia for a consultation she helped me pick the best shade for my skin tone (I'm naturally a "ginger hybrid" as I call it) and made me feel really excited to make the change. Yesterday I went in to get the cut and colour and I honestly couldn't be any happier with the end result! The atmosphere in The Dye Lot is friendly and laid-back, and Cynthia's just amazing. First of all, she gives the best head massage I've ever had, and second, she managed to give my hair curls that held all day long WITHOUT using any product (my hair has never held a curl, even with mountains of hairspray, for more than an hour). Granted, some of that may have been because my hair was just dyed, but still! Love love love this place :) read more

Have to warn you. Olga is amazing at colouring hair however not at cutting Mens hair. Ive been going there for over a year and I love the way she does my hair. Yesterday I took my son for a trim because his regular hairdresser was booked and he had photo day at school. It will be Christmas before his bangs reach his eyebrows. It is so bad I almost cried. Even today when i picked him up from school i wanted to cry It looks like a mullet. I said keep the length just thin it out and dont cut the bangs. He had long, curly thick hair now its an inch long. From booking​ to the quality of cuts and colour, I'm very pleased. I have seen Christina, who is amazing with those scissors and gives amazing cuts, I booked in with James when she wasn't available and I needed to see someone before an event, I was really happy with him, he listens and reiterates what I've said, plus gives me suggestions, like he lightened my hair colour a bit the last time and I LOVE it. Melanie is awesome. I decided to ombré my own hair at home (don't ask lol) and I obviously messed it up, lol, so I was in desperate need to fix it! My old hairstylist whom I had kept for over 10 years, wasnt in town and I was starting to look for a new stylist any way. I found this place and read the reviews & decided to give it a try! I love the salon, the structure and interior is pretty modern/European. All the other stylists are very friendly as well, except the receptionists tend to be very quiet & In their own world. Wow! Caitlin and Sabrina have saved me from a hair disaster that happened at another salon (NOT the Dye Lot.) I was feeling so terrible about myself after my hair was dyed way too dark and called the Dye Lot for help. They are so kind and caring and were prepared with two options for me when I came in. Caitlin and Sabrina took excellent care of me and my hair looks a hundred times better than when I walked in. Sabrina took a great deal of care and they are both extremely skilled, not to mention personable and easy to talk. I left feeling so much better. The price is very reasonable. The salon is beautiful and newly renovated. They carry excellent products and give top notch service. I have been to a lot of salon in Vancouver and North Vancouver and this is far and away the best one. Do yourself a favour and call Sabrina or Caitlin, you will not be disappointed. In Dye lots defense I came here in the first place to get a colour correction. A stylist had already ruined by hair and I wanted it fixed. I was told when I got there that my best option was to do a full head of highlights to fix the other stylists ombre mess up because they can't fix colour with colour! (TOTALLY FAIR) but I had mentioned to them that because the last girl had made my hair so dark at the top that I did not want my hair to look streaky and if it was going to I would rather do all one colour fix. They said it would NOT be streaky at all - they would make it blend, but they also said it would damage my hair and would have to be cut, which I said I could handle but I was told yet again that it would NOT be streaky and that it will blend and be great.... I left the salon BALLING my eyes out AND had to pay $175.00. My hair now is a grey looking because of how dark my hair was at the top mixed in with so many highlights - just like I said I did not want. All they said to me was give it a couple washes and 6 weeks and come back.... so they want me to walk around for 6 weeks so uncomfortable with my look that I do not want to leave my house. I understand that was the best option they thought but I really wish they had been honest with me.. IT IS BEYOND STREAKY. I look like one of those moms who doesn't want to admit they are going grey so they get a bunch of streaks in their hair. I have never written a review about any place in my life and I know I had walked into their salon with a colour correction job but they made me pay an outrageous price (which I cannot afford) for a hair colour I did not want thus leaving so upset - noticeably crying (3 stylist had come to talk to me because of how noticeably upset I was). I even have taken a personal day from work so I do not have to show my face. I do not recommend coming here. Amazing location and they are all nice but are not able to properly describe to you what your hair will look like even when you explicitly describe your fears and wants. I understand no one is a miracle worker but like I had mentioned I would of rather gone all one colour and cut my hair then feel this uncomfortable about my image. read more

Had a bad experience here. Went in to have my hair styled for grad, requested curls with emphasis that I was worried it would weigh down and lose curl throughout the day. Twenty minutes after the appointment, I arrive at home to have chunks not curled and the rest of my hair barely wavey. Extremely disappointed as this was a big day for me. read more

I decided to try this place because it got some great Yelp reviews and it is in close proximity to where I live. I decided I didn't want highlights anymore and wanted to go back to my natural hair colour. I called on Saturday and they booked me an appointment the next day with Sabrina. She told me about several options I could pursue to meet my goals (natural colour, no more highlights, grow out some layers, but keep the length), but she highly recommended that I go with an ombre colour technique to make a natural fade. I decided to go with it and I'm so delighted with the colour and the fact that there isn't that "line" where my old highlights used to be. She also did a great cut: nothing crazy and just enough to make my hair healthy without the dead ends. I am giving five stars because of great service/talent, great customer service, and I think the pricing is really affordable (though please note I just moved to Vancouver from Los Angeles where I typically paid $200+ for the types of services I received today.) Terrible experience at this salon. I purchased a style and blowout from Groupon thinking it was a great deal. Wrong! I called to make an appointment and ended up having to wait 2 weeks for my haircut which was my first regret with this purchase. I was told it would be done by a "special" stylist which is why I had to wait so long. During my haircut it didnt seem like she could really handle my hair during the washing or cut and seemed inexperienced. She showed me the back with the mirror when she was finished, it seemed to be alright, nothing fantastic or worth the 2 week wait. I went home and my bf and I noticed all the short and long strands of hair, I ended up having to trim some parts myself because it was so uneven. Im still trying to grow out this terrible haircut. I decided to try this salon because it is closer to my place than where I usually go. The newly brought on stylist chelsey gave me the worst haircut I have ever had. It will take me another year to fix the damage that was done. I know that each stylist is completely different but the one I had completely thinned out my hair and created a situation where my long curly hair turns to dreadlocks. Seriously the worst! I really wish that people would be honest and just say that If they don't know how to cut curly hair, they don't know how to cut it. I can totally appreciate that, but I don't feel good about people who don't have the integrity to say it. Im sure this place is great otherwise, but people with curly hair my recommendation is to get someone who knows what they are doing. read more

I was so disappointed on many levels after hearing good things about this place. The first time I made an appointment, the salon called half an hour before the appointment to tell me they would have to cancel because the stylist was running late. The next time, the appointment was for a "consultation". I wanted a bleach out but the stylist said she wouldn't do it because it is hard on the hair. I assured her that my hair had been bleached out many times before. Made no difference. She felt she knew better than I did. Then why do they advertise they do it and confirmed over the phone when I asked to make sure. She said she'd see if anybody else would do it. I walked into the Dye lot today, looking for a trim on my hair. I've been trying to grow my hair out for over a year, and was just looking at trimming up the ends. My hair was cut 2 months ago at the Blanche MacDonald school by a student. I left very happy, with the cut. My hair was still looking good, and had virtually no split ends today, prior to The Dye lot. The lady cutting my hair had no clue what she was doing. She chopped one too many inches off, and just could not shape it right if her life depended on it. The shape she cut around my face is completely unflattering, and has no rhyme or rhythm if you will. The bangs i had grown out, are now chopped so they feather away from my face, which does not match the rest of the blunt looking cut and growth of my hair. It looks patchy, and uneven in length. All i can say is, if i wanted my hair to look like this, I could have gone to MAGIC CUTS. Not everyone has time or uses hair product and irons on their hair every day. I personally enjoy having a cut that is easy to take care of. Most of the time I shower and let my hair air dry, so that I don't have to apply heat. Besides the fact that no one there was able to make my hair look good without mass styling tools, it was the poor attitudes and the bad customer service. When i explained that I was unhappy, she called over another "stylist". She began chopping into my hair, and my hair just kept getting shorter. I asked her to stop, and i said i was unhappy, and that I wished I had just left my hair and not cut it at all. I also explained that for $10 I could go to the school and get a good cut, versus their $50 cuts. She ripped off my cape and snarled "Well then go to the school and get your happy cut." I was nice the entire time, and even gave the woman cutting my hair 5 dollars for her time. However, the attitude from the overall salon, and the red-headed-attitude-overload-hair-dresser, was enough... Enough for me to come online and warn others not to trust the results at this place.
