I came in around 6:00 and it was starting to fill up. Rather than take a table, I sat at the bar near the front which had about six or seven seats. I got a beer right away and because I'd looked at the menu online (they have an English menu on their website) I knew I wanted the rib eye master cut. The steak came with a salad, which was good (although heavy on the raw onions, luckily I wasn't kissing anyone later) as well as a baked potato and garlic bread. The master cut comes with freshly grated horseradish that really added an extra boost to the already flavorful rib eye. The steak was tender and even though rib eyes are by nature fatty, this one had the flavor without too much extra fat. I liked it a lot. I also liked the extra sour cream they provided and ate every last drop! The waiter convinced me to order some chocolate lava cake for dessert and it was also good. In the US, they usually serve cake like that with a raspberry sauce and I'm just not a fan of raspberries. However, this came with a blueberry sauce which was perfect. The best thing is that for a beer, a big bottle of sparkling water, the steak and the cake, my total bill was €43 or just under $50 and that is what I would have paid for just the steak back in NYC. The service was also very friendly...maybe they get a lot of tourists or something but it was probably the friendliest service I had in all of Germany. I'm a big fan of the Block House!

Something went wrong in their kitchen, so we got our food after 1/2h. No remarks, very tasty ! Nevertheless, a drink (or coffee) for this delay should be offered. Due to the fact that the lunch was almost perfect, we returned some days later for having dinner (after making an online reservation). This time we had a Dry Aged Rib Eye and a schnitzel with potatoes and a salad. For sure no WHAUW effect. The Rib Eye was like a normal one (no Dry Age taste at all). The look of the breaded schnitzel was... ugly. I decided to scrap the bread. The schnitzel himself was miserable and was not flavored, so very tasteless. The location is a plus, but don't expect too much. If they are willing to upgrade some plates and if the cook is willing to do some extra efforts, it can be much better.

While service at any dine in restaurant in Germany in general is pretty slow, for all I know it could've been our waiter cooking the steaks himself as he was literally the only person I noticed working in the entire establishment. Two people, two 500 gram steaks, five sides and two drinks plus two sauces came out to just over EUR40. You get a better steak at Blockhouse, sure, but San Diego didn't seem to want to kick us out of our seats the second we were finished, unlike some more upscale places. The situation of the restaurant is also very scenic and relaxing. We were greeted as we entered and bid adieu as we left; we felt very welcome and comfortable there. It was also difficult to talk to anybody because they didn't show up anymore. When the steaks arrived and we felt like some more sauce, they told us to bring it immediately, but in the end it took as long as it took for the steaks to get cold. Then later we waited longer time again for anybody to show up, but nobody came, so we got up and paid at the counter. Food was of average quality, no highlights. Drinks were very nice and they have a good choice of wine. Price is a bit too high for the quality they offer and with the bad service in the second half of the dinner, we won't come back.
