This is a floating tulip market. It was pretty cool to see all the different bulbs (they even tell you which ones you can buy and bring back to the us). Unfortunately no actual tulips because it was winter time. Lots of souvenirs that are also available for purchase. read more

You just have to come here if you are visiting. It's an adorable market located on the Singel. It's a long row of shops, street vendors, restaurants. The street vendors sell lots of flowers and bulbs here. Make sure you do a walk through and get some ideas of what you want and remember prices. Some are noticeable higher than others. Tons of bulbs, and plants, flowers and cacti, cute little garden gnomes to Venus flytrap plants. I almost forgot. Real Venus flytrap! Tons and tons of souvenir shops to buy bags, shirts, hats and other stuff. Prices seem pretty comparable. It's a nice walk from centraal station if you don't mind walking. If you don't like walking. I'd suggest taking the tram. There are just some touristy things you have to do here, and this is one of them. Plus, it's free to look! read more

Holland is of course associated with flowers, and the greenhouses along the Singel canal allow you to experience the tulips without leaving Amsterdam. Even in a cold November day, you will find cut flowers, seedlings, bulbs, seeds, and garden supplies. A real plus is the area; I found several cheese shops close by. I must admit that I was a little disappointed by some of the touristy wares sold here; cheap little trinkets, and that just seemed to take away from the grace of nature. read more

People are very informative and helpful- a great place to find a larger selection of tulip bulbs. However, I suspect these may be of lesser quality than finding some outside the city. Surely a fun experience with the floating flower market, but be sure this is exactly the experience you are looking for! read more

Beautiful (but so is 90% of Amsterdam from what I saw)! Walked though all of it, and the more you walk in, the (slightly) cheaper things seem to get, and the more pot plants you will find. If you're walking around Amsterdam walk though here for sure, even if you don't want to buy anything. Just keep in mind that some places don't want you taking pictures. read more

It's practical, yes, but really it's art. The best stalls are laid out like a canvas, punctuated with the color of tulip bulbs, and / or maturing plants. Row and column coming together in a pastiche of concentrated plant life. It is a site to see. read more

**You can only bring tulip bulbs back to the U.S. from July to early fall.** Trams 1, 2 and 5 drop you off right in front of the floating flower market, which is lined with stands of flower sellers. You can purchase almost any blub imaginable, bonsai starters, potted plants, garden gnomes and other fun things for your garden. The prices do not tend to vary much between the different stands, but there are some that offer better deals. Make sure you know the laws about importing plants, bulbs and seeds into your country before purchasing anything. Some of the flower stand owners have websites that allow you to order from them when they can legally export. read more

This might have been something very special once, but today it's just a sad tourist trap. Seriously, don't go here and expect somthing wonderful. You'll end up disappointed. It's mostly a decent selection of bulbs (a lot completely out of season for planting), fake tulips, a standard selection of seeds and a few more fake flowers. There's a bit of variation from stall to stall, but otherwise they're much the same. Quite frankly, this place just made me sad. I imagine that this was once an incredible place to get fresh flowers and inspiration. Maybe, maybe not. At least it isn't today. Most online shops that sell bulbs can give you a better selection, standard and price. read more

One of the institutions of Amsterdam, this is a long line of flower stalls featuring some of the most interesting flowers anywhere and they ship worldwide! Where else can you find black tulips, rembrand tulips, and cut tulips all in one place over and over? Some of the bulbs were the size of my head and some were tiny! This is a fantastic place to just visit as well as decorate your outside or inside space. read more

The stalls all sell the SAME thing. You had best find a place to haggle the prices since the whole street sells the same bulbs and same products. The stores I saw were all up on the street and not down in the canal like others have said. read more

If you visit Amsterdam, the flower market is a great place to visit. An entire row of shops from one bridge to another and a really interesting thing is that each shop is actually floating on the canal as they are a series of houseboats. Something you don't really appreciate until you see it from the back side. We found the best and best priced souvenirs in these flower shops. Although they are famous for the bulbs and probably most famously the tulips, most shops sell most of the standard tourist fare. It is a great place for pictures also and in particular as due to the colder winter in Europe this year, we beat the Tulip season to Amsterdam by about a month. read more

Somehow not what I expected-- a "floating flower market" sounds way more romantic than a load of sheds along the side of the canal. Perhaps they were floating, but you couldn't tell. Lots of plants and flowers, so if you're living here or need a host present, probably a good destination. Also a lot of shops selling generic tourist tat, so if you're looking for a fridge magnet or a tshirt about Amsterdam, this could be just the place for you. read more

My favourite flower is tulip, so when I first saw the long line of stalls selling huge numbers of different types of tulips I was very excited. A lot of the stalls sell your normal tourist stuff, I even ended up taking home some tulips in a clog for my mum. But as well as the tourist stuff they have a huge selection of proper bulbs and flowers. The selection is unbelievable and the prices are very reasonable, or at least they were when the pound was stronger.. still worth the money though. I brought home some black and parrot tulips and as yet have not found them back here. read more

Changed but not for the better. We were here 35 years ago and the market was not very crowded and flowers of many colors were all over. Now, the market is more of a souvenir stop with most shops selling trinkets, seeds and bulbs. As with many countries you have to be careful as to what can be brought home from other countries so choose wisely if you decide to buy. On this cold day, we could barely walk from one end to the other amidst the throngs of tourists and locals. Gone were many of the bright bouquets you could have for pocket change. Not only are there souvenirs sold at the stalls but the entire street is lined with souvenir shops and crappy eateries. It may be worth a visit just to see it (and stop at the nearby delightful Delftware shop in The Munt) for photographs and try picture it when it was actually a thriving market long before our time. We did a cursory walk from one end to the other and were longing for nostalgic memories our last visit when we could romantically stroll, browse and wonder at the beauty that was no longer there. read more
