Loved checking out this farmer's market on a dreary Saturday a couple weekends ago in Amsterdam! Located in the Jordaan neighborhood, this market has a history of being located in this public square since 1623, when it was renamed after the newly built Noorderkerk, a church which still stands today. Its prior name was Prisenmarkt (named after Prinsengracht (Prince canal)). The earliest version of the market sold everything from pottery, textiles, household items, second-hand goods and pigeons. There's a detailed accounting of this market's history on their website. The current iteration of the market consists of 1) a farmer's market with many local and artisanal producers of farm produce, meats and dairy, baked goods, etc. and 2) a "general goods" market which consists of stands selling housewares, art, vintage clothing and accessories, antiques, textiles and household furnishings, and more. The former is held on Saturdays 9-4pm, the latter on Saturdays same time as the farmers market and Mondays 9-2pm. From where I was walking around, it looked like about three dozen vendors with stands of varied sizes gathered here to sell on a Saturday morning. I also arrived around 9:30am, so there were still vendors setting up too. What a bustling atmosphere and certainly lots of locals doing some weekend food shopping--saw plenty of veggies, fruit, bread, placed directly in bicycle crates (on the front or back of this popular transportation method Amsterdam is well-known for) and biked away. So many yummy looking items! It made me wish I had a kitchen there so I could buy and prepare food from this market. The Noordermarkt on Mondays only is when there are vintage sellers and not just clothes..... had a good selection of vendors and we did well finding kitschy resale items to fill our suitcases. And everything reasonably priced. Bring cash and your carry bags - some take cards but not many. There are clothes - and food stalls as well. Worth visiting if vintage kitsch is your bag read more

My friend and I stumbled on this market. It was okay. I did purchase the cutest cat sweater. My friend purchased teeny tiny strawberries. I think because the market was in the process of shutting down, we didn't get the full on experience. I didn't see as many booths that I would like to look at. Locating a public toilet was impossible. The vendor tried to help us and said to check out a pub, but we were denied by the guy at the door. We were told of another place, but we gave up. One of my issues with Amsterdam, as an aging woman in my early 40s, it's not fun. read more

Great little market to stroll through on a busy Saturday. They have any and everything you can imagine. One half of the market is food, both ready to eat and grocery style. I was amazed at the mushroom stand because I actually saw mushrooms I've never seen before. There were pink ones! The other half is like flea market. There are smallwares, antiques and other collectibles, etc. I'm not really into this kind of stuff but it was fun to see what they have Even if you don't buy anything, this is a nice way to spend a couple hours. read more

On Saturdays, this place has EVERYTHING you would ever want to eat. It's stall after stall of all manner of cheese, fruit, jams, sauces, vinegars, breads, pastries, mushrooms, potatoes, olives, pasta, greens, fish, meat, and weird vegan products. Seriously, right across the way from the tent with more sausage than even I want, there's a guy selling wheatgrass juicers. If you want to eat it, you can find it here. AND they've also got all kinds of other goods for you to browse: every kind of hat EVER (95% of which will look good on your girlfriend, 0% of which will look good on you), scarves, dresses, jewelry, weird knick-knacks...I even found a dope laptop sleeve made out of a suit jacket. If [you are an idiot and] I carry it just so, you might think I was dressed respectably. On Mondays, I'm told the market turns into a second-hand treasure hunt full of all sorts of antiques. It's probably for the best that we didn't come back Monday; I nearly got strip-searched by the TSA trying to get back into the States with my dirty laundry, so I'm glad I didn't try and declare anything. read more

A must visit farmers market with organic produce, crafts, and interesting plants like the wild Persian and Turkish tulips. Dutch cheeses galore including Boerenkaas with cumin seeds, fenugreek, nigella, etc., and you get to meet local cheese makers. read more

This market has it all! Pastries, cakes and pies, wheatgrass, a huge array of mushrooms, pastas and tapas, oils, exotic teas, dried fruit, fresh organic fruit and vegetables, crepes (yes, actual French crepes!), bread, cheese, trinkets, clothes and more! Just check out the pictures! Now, being a foodie, and one who loves cheese, pastry, mushrooms.. god I love mushrooms... and... well, most of the stuff that this market has, I was very excited to find this marvel. My next mission is to buy a few of ALL the mushrooms they have, and experiment with making my own super funghi pizza! And perhaps even a super mushroom soup. Can't wait! read more

This is a lovely place where they sell almost everything you can think of. Vegetables, flowers, cheese, mushrooms (not the magic kinds, unfortunately!), meat, fish, vegan items, bread, cakes, organic stuff, honey, used books, second hand clothing, jewelleries - anything! I am a huge fan of traditional market and I love the vibe of this place although I am not sure the shoppers are locals or just tourists like I am, but I love just hanging out here, sampling stuff, just getting a whiff of the smell of freshly baked bread from one stall and get a cheese sample from another. I spent a lot of my time looking at used books as well as paintings, sketches that they are selling her. Absolute must go if you're a fan of a market like I do. read more

We went on a Saturday and loved the variety of fresh produce and prepared food we saw there. We bought cheese, quiche, and bread. The cheese vendor can vacuum sealer your purchase so you can take it on an airplane outside the country. The only downer is a male stranger who felt the need to educate my children by "telling your parents to F off." Characters everywhere, I suppose. The market itself is fantastic. read more

The Saturday Noordermarkt is the best! Everything you might want - cheese, sausage, fish, bread, veggies, you name it, its sold there. The best part is the things you can eat at the market - find the stand that sells homemade pea soup, sausages and ham sandwiches. It's the best! Just listen for the owner calling "lekker, lekker" and you'll find it! Freshly fried seafoods are really good too as are the poffertjes (small pancakes) are must haves too! On your way home, be sure to pick up some fresh flowers and maybe a fresh squeeze orange juice to round out your day! read more

This is one busy outdoor market, but for good reason! I believe it's an all organic market (for the food). Delicious breads, cheese, meats, and some ready-to-eat goodies like crepes and soups too. I discovered honey cheese there and am now in love! Feel free to taste the cheeses first, just try to buy something too. A little cheese to nibble on is always a good idea. But you really can't go wrong with the fresh fruits you'll find there as well. You can also find vintage clothes, housewares, and prints. It's so fun just to walk through to see what you can see. It's the perfect place to grab a picnic, find a spot in the Jordaan or canals to enjoy the scenery while you eat your delicious finds. read more

The food there is fresh and delicious, and I had a great time browsing the stalls. I bought a second hand sweater and hats, plus some lovely warm mittens and slippers. I also found a funky virgin and child to bring home to my mom, who collects such things. It is a must see for a trip to Amsterdam! read more

I love to go to the Noordermarkt, especially on a Monday morning, when there is a vintage/antiques market. There are stands with awesome vintage clothing and there is also a stand by the shop Exota, which sells piles of 'King Louie' dresses and skirts for a huge discount. You may have to fight some other girls to get the dress you like though ;) Every Saturday there is a lovely biological food market which lots of beautiful products and healthy, fresh food. Delicious bread, veggies, cheese and meat... they have everything. I love the stand with all the different mushrooms. This market is pricey so I don't go there very often, because I know that when I go there I want to buy all this nice food and I'm broke after that haha. read more

Went to the market today since it's only open 2 days a week. The market was like a giant flea market. Lots of old used items, clothes and fabric. Nothingreally worth seeing. I did have some freshed squeezed orange juice that was pretty good. But I think that was the highlight. read more

If you have time, it's nice to go through stacks of old postcards or prints, etc. One man's trash is another man's treasure! I can't add much more to what has already been said. However, there is a woman at Noordermarkt that sells sauces. Ah-mazing sauces. There is lots of cheese, lots of bread, lots of veggies of this market. But, there is one woman who sells sauces. Find her and you dinner for the next weeks/month will go from okay to oh-yeah! On her stall you'll find 6-7 tall brown vats/jars. Each has a name and for approximately €1.50 you can get a scoop of delicious sauce. The scoops are big. Two scoops fill up a jar she provides for a deposit of €.50. So you can bring the jar back next week and get your change back or get refilled. We bought two scoops each of the tomatillo and the koriander sauce. The tomatillo is amazing and has made some of our staple dishes really pop. The nice things about this is that you don't always want to buy all of the ingredients / spices needed to make a kick-butt sauce, so let her do it for you! The sauces keep for two week to one month, so you should be okay. You can also bring your own jars to be filled. The other gem at the market is the mushroom stand. Blue mushrooms, yellow mushrooms, oyster, truffle, red mushrooms. The assortment is mouth watering and they are delicious! So, yes. Read the other reviews. Don't delay. Go here. This outdoor market encompasses most of Westerstraat and the playground area next to the Nooderkerk.. The vendors and booths on Westerstraat have mostly clothes, fabrics and clothing accessories. The area next to the Noorderkerk has antiques, vintage items along with baked goods, fruits, vegetables, cheese, fresh meat and some cooked foods. It's a great place to find inexpensive clothing. It's open on Monday 9- 2 and Saturday 9 - 5. read more

this is usually the market i take friends from out of town to see local produce and vintage goods. all the food booths have quality produce and products. you can also find some lovely treasures here for yourself, ie: jewelry, a special vintage coat, books or beautiful vintage household goods. when i come here myself for some shopping i usually always stop at the mushroom booth to get some fresh sauteed mushrooms or an oyster or two. these two booths make my visit to this market worthwhile and you won't be able to find these goodies at other markets. at least that i know of? read more

Noordermarkt is the classic of the Amsterdam Markets. I love it on mondays when the hipsters & (aspiring) models get out early to snap up the best vintage clothes. Saturday has a farmer's market included that is a bliss for when you want to get your food fresh, often biologic and environmentally sustainable. read more

stopped by the market in March 2019. delightful! fresh produce, yummy cheese, and great breads. if I lived in Amsterdam or had a room with a kitchen while in town i'd definitely be shopping here. oh, and take my advice: have the apple pie at Winkel's BEFORE going to the market! takes the edge off the appetite and keeps you from buying more than you can possible use as a tourist. read more
