I haven't been here for years and know nothing of the new team behind it. On the door as you go in…read moreis a notice saying "Evening News Cafe Tasters not welcome here". Now this is a reference to a local newspaper whereby customers leave feedback on various eateries. To put a poster like this up tells me you have something to hide or have had a bad review and didn't like it. What struck me immediately is how clean and tastefully decorated the place was and there was no smell of grease or anything like that. There were only two other people in there and my friend and I ordered the big breakfast each at £6.50. This review is based upon that breakfast. I cannot comment on what is an extensive menu. The orange juice that came with the breakfast was served in the smallest glass I have ever seen in a cafe, probably only 15ml worth. Then the server brought us our tea with cups and saucers stacked and just plonked them down and said "sort yourselves out." Then the toast came, which, although nice, was cold by the time the breakfast came. The eggs were cooked just how I like them but I am sorry to say that was all I can say positive about it. The bacon was woefully underdone and very fatty. The sausage was a cheap, 10 for 50p type, which had been deep fried. Could not eat it. The beans and tomato also underdone. The hash brown cheap and nasty. The mushrooms had also been deep fried and consequently retained all their moisture so just turned to mush. The black pudding was also underdone and soaked in fat. The less said about the fried bread the better. So poor service, poor food but nice decor and eggs.

It changed hands more than once so didn't know what to expect. I was surprised at how posh it seemed. We went in the afternoon but it was immediately clear it is more than just a coffee shop. They open in the evenings with a far from ordinary menu.I think the way we were served is probably the same as the evening service even for toasted teacake and a pot of tea.My friend enjoyed scone and cream. My toasted tea cake was the best I have ever had _nicely soft on the outside and toasted just right in the middle. There were people in having a coffee and chatting an enjoying the decor . A nice place to meetup.

The decor and overall feel of the place is very basic - like the kind of place you used to visit with your parents back in the days when you had a day trip at the seaside and it was raining. Thats not to say its a bad place though, because it isnt. Very much a no frills kind of place - selling teas, coffees, sandiches, snacks, breakfasts, light hot meals and so on, but the quality of what you get is above average, and on the whole provides good value for money. Its nothing fancy, its nothing continental, but you'll know that just from the look of the place from the outside, but if you go in expecting a typical english cafe, then you wont be disappointed. Service is fine and friendly, and the hot meals are good - the breakfasts, in particular, are well worth a try and very plentiful.

I was told to go up the street turn left along the road there is a public toilet to use. The food arrived just as I was going to take my daughter to the public toilet. I told them to take the food back as it would be getting cold, my daughter had ordered burger & chips. They then decided they would allow her to use the staff toilet. So I was quite happy to stay & eat the food, as all my daughter needed was the toilet. The food was slammed back down onto the table. I had ordered a ham sandwich, which was not what I would call ham it looked like it was out of a tin & sliced by hand. My friend had ordered poached egg on toast which was under cooked. We left most of the food which was terrible even the children left their burger & chips. I complained about the service & I am still in shock now, the staff where extremely rude. The chef came out with his filthy apron on, in a very abusive manner told us to get out & never come back, & they shoved my 7 year old daughter who was coming out of the cafe last through the door and slammed the door, on the heel of her foot. As we where two women with 3 children we felt extremely intimidated. I would definately strongly advise anybody to never go into this cafe, especially if you have children, as no toilets are provided. The staff are rude & the food was disgusting. A very upset family from York.

All I wanted was chicken and waffles. I'd been reading about them a lot (okay that sounds weird --…read moreit was related to my job and not some strange, niche interest) and it brought on a huge craving. To salve this, I looked up restaurants in Leeds that might serve them -- enter Rosie's! It's good to have friends that cater to the last minute, oft-weird whims of a lady and her oral desires. (Don't be rude.) My good pal Laurie was up for the jaunt, and so we adventured across town to the Kirkstall complex that houses this joint. It's almost a fun experience. I like the bus (you can sit inside it) and I like the booths and I even like the ultra-cheesy, very-nearly-Pulp-Fiction feel of the decor. Except, once the shine has settled, you feel very much like you're in a TGIFriday type of chain. (I wasn't so keen on that.) That said, the staff were very lovely and accommodating. I loved the fries -- this sounds silly, but I really think they can be hard to master. These were every bit of your filthy, greasy-but-crispy, desire. The burger was solid. It tasted like a solid, greasy, stodgy affair, although by no means was it at Shake Shack levels of nirvana, and the like. Mac and cheese: I've had better. The chicken and waffles: so, those weren't on the menu any more. Sad! However, I asked the waitress if I could order a waffle with maple syrup to come with our mains, and good ol' L-town ordered fried chicken, and so I was able to create my own. Plan worked a treat: whilst the fried chicken was almost certainly from a packet (it did not taste/appear to be made from scratch) it absolutely scratched the itch. Chuck a couple of those b-boys on a waffle, lather it -- nay, suffocate it -- with maple syrup, and you'll get a little closer to the kind of disgraceful treats you can get across the pond. Nope, it's not authentic. But it was what I wanted! There you have it, folks. And, I'll say, of all the eateries in the complex (bar Five Guys, because BURGER HEAVEN) this one's probs tops. Enjoy!

So why i got mixed feelings about it? I ordered a Pug hot dog and she ordered a steak and egg. My hot dog was decent (i must say though putting the cheese between the dog and the bun was a bit weird instead of on the top) and the size was very good but my friend on the other side wasn't as lucky as me. She asked for a medium steak and got a well done with an over easy egg on top and got an over medium. The steak looked a but dehydrated and she had to ask for some lemon to give it a boost to the flavour and she made a comment as she was eating her side of corn on the cob that the corn wasn't very fresh. I'm not sure i would go back to try something else unless is FOR SCIENCE!!!!
