I had been looking to replace our old cedar fence for a few years now and had looked at several…read moreoptions, from plain spruce picket to custom vinyl in wood-tone colors. After narrowing it down to a few options, we went looking for a few fence companies to provide us quotes. In the final analysis, Newark Fence was price competitive and could meet the timeline we needed, even thou we ended up having the work down very late in the year. Bob was wonderful in answering my questions via email and in person when he came out to look over our yard. Honestly, those that have provided poor ratings/reviews should know that the best contractors are often extremely busy and the best way to communicate (and the choice of most people too) is via email. Bob and the crew were great and even removed our old fence posts, as we couldn't easily get them out of the ground ourselves. We'd already taken down our old fence panels and stacked them in our driveway for easy removal. We went with a new, 'custom designed' cedar fence that really looks amazing. We were able to get wider gates where we wanted them and other options that really make our fence not only good looking but that secures our back yard nicely. Our neighbors were actually asking for a referral as their fences are in need or replacement and they too didn't want some "big-box" store spruce picket fence. We did compare several local fence companies and the big-box stores, but Newark Fence had the ability to provide EXACTLY the style of fence WE wanted and didn't try to sell us on some cookie cutter fence or their standard stock fencing. Newark Fence has several stock fence styles, but they can also provide any style or design that you want, from wood, cedar, vinyl, and metal too. We highly recommend Bob and Newark Fence to our friends and neighbors and will certainly use them again when we need another fence

My husband and I moved to Delaware and were lucky enough to buy a large 4 acre property. The area…read moreis very friendly but we wanted some style of fence around part of the property so our dogs and small children would have a good visual boundary. My husband immediately says we should go with Newark Fence. My husband is from Delaware and had known the owner's wife many years ago when he still lived up here. The owner Rob came out, looked at the property, gave us an estimate and a date when markings would be put down and the fence would go up. The fence was slated for installation in late July. Things got rescheduled and our yard had the power lines marked off in July 2025. Due to weeks of heavy rain the fence installation rescheduled for later in August. They started putting the fence in mid-August 2025. And we have had nonstop issues since. While installing the fence Newark Fence knicked the service line in several locations leading into one side of our home. Within weeks of the new fence being up and for the next several months that side of our home which is the in laws quarter and where my elderly mother lives lost power eight different times. Then the whole house lost power. Sometimes for 14 hours or more. Being on well water the entire household of 10, we lost the ability to use the showers, to use the bathrooms or wash our food. Several full refrigerators of full had to be tossed after being without power for hours off and on. I spent an entire weekend scrubbing rancid fish out of our freezer that had thawed then refrozenthen thawed due to power surges. It cost us almost $8,000 for a crew of electricians to dig a trench and install a whole new service line. My husband has repeatedly reached out to Rob. Keeping him in the know about all these issues. He has yet to give us any help, or even the name of his insurance. The electricians we hired, as well the half dozen from Delmarva stated repeatedly the fence was sitting on the service line. Which was obvious once it had been marked. We also realized that after the weeks of rain which caused the fence to be put in weeks later than expected, Newark fencing never put in a call to have the lines remarked. They were working blindly. To top it all off the actual fence itself hasn't even held. Within a month we had pieces falling off the posts . After almost 10 months of trying to get a response to Rob about what we should do, Rob told us his attorney said he'd be better off in court and that maybe the old fence hurt the line. As if the old fence that had been installed years earlier had somehow magically began causing electrical issues. It is a shame when people no longer stand by their word or their work. I understand Rob didn't start the company, that it was his father's but I would've thought he would've stood by his craftsmanship. If you want to spend countless hours pulling out your hair dealing with electricians, outages, making sure your elderly mother doesn't pass out in the heat or letting your children know they can't use the bathroom because the electricity powers the water - go with Newark fence. Or if you're like my husband and I, trying to raise a family at a time with sky high gas prices, property tax hikes and kids soon to start college - find somebody - anybody - else to go with. Or heck maybe you don't even need a fence? We would've been better off without the headache, the soon to be court drama and almost $30k richer.
