Wish I could give more than 5 stars. . Staff is attentive, efficient, accommodating, and friendly. Food is comparable to big city / fine dining. Went 2 nights in a row. ( Enough said). Each had different choices both nights. Absolutely delicious and well prepared food. Ribs and veg pasta 1st night. Fillet and Salmon on 2nd night. Fabulous. Beautiful presentation. Not as busy as the other places in the town hub. The little walk up the little hill is well worth it. read more

Good food okay service. We had to wait for a while to get food ~30 mins and we were the 2nd people in the restaurant so I really didn't understand the issue... but the food was fine did the job. Good escape from the rain for us. Would probably have tried a different restaurant down the street if not for crowds. read more

Oh WOW!! This was the best meal I've had all year! We ordered the pork adobo and it was so luscious and tender. The sauce was amazing!! We also had the salmon and it was the best salmon I've eaten! So glad we stopped on here for dinner. Plus the views from the table are gorgeous!! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a really good meal in Franz Joseph. read more

I have only been here once before for their friday pizza special. Very good price for decently sized pizza's, had 2 mediums, very full, and lunch for the next day. I do however wish the service was a tad bit better. Our water sat empty for a good part of our stay and we didn't have much opportunity to ask for more. but overall a very nice evening. read more

This place really surprised us! The food was delicious and really elevated. After a long day of travel, we asked our lodge where a good place to eat would be and this was recommended. Blue Ice did not disappoint! I had a tasty Seafood Pasta dish and my Husband had a steak. Both dishes were so good and because the food had been awesome, we went ahead and ordered a dessert. It too, was amazing. We devoured that dessert- it was not only beautifully plated, it was not too sweet and was a very satisfying bread pudding. The service was also wonderful- very attentive. I wish we had stayed another day in Franz Josef township, because I most certainly would have been back for another round. Well done Blue Ice- great experience here! read more

Pork Adobo was fantastic but the WI-FI voucher lasted me exactly 4 minuets. Rather stingy after dropping $30 on lunch.

My husband and I absolutely loved this place. We might even come back again for another meal before we leave the glacier. Pizza: half salmon, half chicken cranberry brie. Both were delicious. See photo. Lamb rack and Venison were both ordered rare... And actually served rare! I love that the chef is not afraid to give customers exactly what they ask for. Both dishes were amazing, delightful and filling. This place also let us take our leftovers home, which is why we ordered so much as two people. Awesome customer service! read more

Dined here while on our vacation at the suggestion of both our motel host and one our the tour guides. We decided to go for a drink in the bar section upstairs. The bar look fairly dated. We went downstairs to be totally amazed and suprised with a modern looking restaurant with amazing well priced food. The view from our table was amazing as the cloud cleared from the glacier. The breads and dip was delicious as was the lamb shanks and salmon that we ordered. Unfortunately we were staying around the corner so didn't get the fun of being picked up in the stretch hummer. Doesn't get the 5 stars as bathroom was absolutely filthy. But a great dining experience otherwise. read more

After a long day of driving down the coast followed by glacier hiking, my husband and I were ready for a great meal. We went here on the recommendation of our B&B hosts and were VERY impressed! We ordered the green-lipped mussels and a spicy pizza to split between the two of us. Both were absolutely fabulous! Coming from Chicago, we eat a lot of pizza and this one was cooked perfectly, the toppings delicious and gourmet without being overwhelming. The waitstaff was attentive and very helpful - the meal was just what we needed. The atmosphere was that of a nicer restaurant but not too fancy for a casual town like Franz Josef. Went here to grab a quick bite and was pleased with our meal! They have a good selection of pizzas which can be ordered in three different sizes, we got the traditional Italian pizza which had a generous topping of salami. A dive bar? Maybe in the top floor but the restaurant is BALLER all the way starting with a stretch Hummer pick up to the restaurant! The fettuccine with bacon & mushroom sauce totally hit the spot for a chilly, rainy night. Loads of Bacon-no holding back! Also had the mixed green salad with their custom dressing. This is the rare restaurant that DOES NOT drown the salad with dressing--thank you!! We went upstairs for beers & drinks after with some good music (top 40/pop), pool & dartboard. Good place to spend your evening after a day in the glacier (or after all day on the bus). read more

We decided to try Blue Ice for dinner tonight based on reviews from Yelp and travel books and we were not disappointed. I had the stuffed chicken breast and my husband had the fish-of the day, Hoki. BEST MEAL we experienced while traveling throughout New Zealand and Australia for 3 weeks! This place was a GREAT, unexpected surprise! We arrived at Franz Joseph for just one night, and our hotel reception suggested this place because they pick you up in a hummer limousine and drive you to and from the restaurant. After a long day of hiking, we thought that sounded great, and had no expectations for the food. What we were served turned out to be the best meal of the trip, and one of the best meals I've had anywhere, anytime. (Disclosure: I reside in San Francisco, I LOVE to eat, and seek out gastronomic sensations wherever I can find them!) Of course, I realize that it was just one meal, one night, but based on that, the chef here deserves at least one, maybe two Michelin stars! Kudos, and thank you for the amazing food. (We had the green lipped mussels, the salmon, and stuffed chicken.) The transport to-from the restaurant was an added plus btw (and we probably wouldn't have gone there without that option being offered.) Also: why the heck is this place listed as "Dive Bar"? It may be above one, but the restaurant itself is nice, clean, not at all a "dive." read more
