After a close friend passed, we were in the uncomfortable position of getting his house ready for sale- decluttering & prepping a 76 yr old's home of 43 yrs to be sold. He was a merchandiser for gift shops so there was a lot of samples collected over the years that had piled up. It was a lot to handle. Doing the estate sale would have been easier (for us) before the sale of the home but in this case by the advice of the realtor it would show/sell better with furniture and it did, successfully. Estate sale came after house was sold, I interviewed several companies. Some people I spoke with about our situation said it was all the same but I'm here to tell you - it is not. Ask questions during the consults but trust me Blue Moon - Sarah's team worked with us & brought the best value of service. I've done garage sales myself but this was on a massive scale. This is a small family owned company that seems to limit the number of sales they manage, hence the name. They did a great job managing a sale for one of my neighbors who was moving out of the country and selling most of what she owned. There was a long line of folks outside her house before the sale began the first day, and Blue Moon staff handed out entry tickets in order to those present, then let them in a group at a time. This limited the number of people tromping through the house and kept the crowd manageable. Everything was tagged clearly, and they have a process where you tear off half the tag and can shop freely without carrying stuff around, then bring the tags to the register to pay at the end of your spree. Jewelry is kept in a case at the register. The second day, everything was reduced. Most all sold, and my neighbor was pleased. I don't have a house full of items to sell, and was disappointed that I haven't yet found a seller willing to add in some items to another sale. But if you do have a house full of stuff to offload, or if you like to shop sales, definitely check them out. read more

This is a company with franchisees, so depending on where your sale is you might get a different "company" than me. I didn't find the communication great. The sale was only a total of 10 hours over 2 days. I had pre sorted and there was no junk, and much of it contemporary and in excellent condition, yet I was charged $1000 to remove what was left. In the end it was a small check. If I had it to do over, I'd find a company that does 3 days and I'd arrange my own clean out. Hire as far in advance as you can. read more

IF I KNEW THAN WHAT I KNOW NOW I WOULD NEVER HAVE HAD THE ESTATE SALE. The people with Blue Moon were excellent to work with. However the end result of the sale was terrible. My contract was for $4,000 service fee and proceeds shared 70% for me and 30% for Blue Moon. However, the end result was 53.5% for me and 46.5% for Blue Moon. That was not my biggest problem, I was extremely dissatisfied with the GROSS PROCEEDS from the sale. When they did the set up I was very pleased with the pricing they put on everything. We had limited activity on Saturday. Sundays activity was great. Since I was not familiar with how house estate sales work, I did not know that on Sunday everything is discounted by 50%. Obviously, people that shop estate sales know this so they show up on Sunday. MY ESTATE SALE TURNED INTO A FIRE SALE. Blue Moon needs to be up front that on Sunday sale prices will be reduced by 50%, When I discussed this with Colin, the owner of this franchise his comment was that the contract stipulates that they can discount the prices. I understand that but that does not mean that they sould turn the selling of my property into a FIRE SALE! Word to the wise when you establish the prices make sure you that you don't what your items discounted by HALF. read more

This estate sale company advertises items that aren't available for purchase. We take the time to show up only to find that the item we are there for is there but we can't purchase it because they have "reserved" it for their friends. It's a total scam. Bait and switch type. Get you there for something that's unavailable. This has happened to us 3 times. read more

These guys are freakin awesome! Everything is priced well and priced to sell! I attended their estate sale in san dimas with vintage doll collectibles and got some great deals! House was neat and tidy, staff was friendly and willing to help. Only issue I encountered was..WOW, it was a hot day! LOL, please put some fans in areas that aren't well ventilated guys! I can't say enough great things about Sarah, and all the folks at Blue Moon. Their events are the most organized estate sales in Austin, and they are always very well-staffed. Their team members are smiling, friendly, and knowledgeable about the merchandise, as well as efficient with check-out. They offer a rewards program which allows frequent customers to build up points for future purchases, and requires no more than simply giving your name at check-out. Estate sale companies in large cities are sometimes run by snobby, aloof people who act as if they are actually annoyed by the customers. If you enjoy estate sales as I do avoid this company. They fail to comply with fair trade rules as well as their own company rules. They allow bullying as in large adult male to women. Their rules: 1. At their precious items table a customer is allowed to handle only one item at a time. 2. A customer states they are buying the item and retains it in their possession, it is sold. Fair trade: When a sale is announced to the public customers should be provided the same information. A dealer at this sale made it clear that "She told me item "x" would be priced at '$$$$. in advance". Useless principles if not followed. read more
