I don't recommend using this tree service. The working conditions are unsafe for the type of work that is required. Workers drink and smoke while working with heavy machinery. Many have been hurt on the job that offers no health insurance. There are a lot of issues with this certain company. read more

Today was the third time I used Blue Ox Tree Service. I wanted them to trim up our trees in the front and back yard. What I didn't expect was for them to show up with a three truck, eight man crew. A great team effort with no problems at all. Listened to my concerns and took them to the game plan. Removed a big cottonwood tree 16" diameter and 45' tall in about 1 hr. and removed a 12" cottonwood branch that was hanging over a shed and took it out with no problems at all. I have one large and a few smaller trees on my property. In the years of ownership I have had to keep the branch off shoots trimmed and dead would out. I know the challenges of getting the work done timely (especially after a storm) and have hired at least three other arborists over the last 15 years. Blue Ox had a huge crew working on one or two other houses around me. They had a huge job and were very busy. I had a dead branch on the large tree and a smaller branch growing into the house. The crew was very friendly and talking to other neighbors so I approached them about my trees and the person in charge was able to provide a reasonable quote. It was paid and done in less than an hour. This was a limited and brief experience but was very good. read more

We had Blue Ox come out and look at a tree for us and he seemed very nice and my mother and son had used them in the past so we thought they would be a good company to call. He said he would give us a quote and get back to us in a couple days. 2 weeks went by and nothing from him. My husband tried to call and got an answering service so he left a message, no return call. I called a week later and the woman that answered assured me he would get right back to me. Its been 4 days and nothing. Very disappointed in the lack of customer service and I guess after reading other reviews this is just normal practice for them. They pick and choose who is going to be treated well and who they wont give the time of day to or the very least a call or email back saying they don't want your money. read more

I can't speak to the quality of work that they do - it never got that far with me. We had established a date and time for Blue Ox to come to my house for an estimate - somewhere between 3:00 and 5:00. I made adjustments to my schedule so I would be sure to be there at the correct time. After 5:00 and no-show I gave up waiting, as I had other things to do. Later, a message was left on my answering machine (sometime after 6:00) giving some excuse and stating that they guy was on his way. To my way of thinking, if they can't show up on time for an estimate (a 2-hour window), why should I trust them to get the job done on time? I scheduled an estimate with this tree service. I took of work and waited for 2.5 hours for them to show up. Unfortunately, they never showed or called. I called to ask what happened and never received a call back. This business in unreliable. If you need tree trimming done, call someone else because these people may not show up. read more

We needed a pile of brush removed from our yard. Two trucks arrived, lots of equipment, and at least 6 men. Four men lounged in their truck, two men came to the yard near the very dry brush pile and sat down to have a cigarette. After about 15 minutes, a third truck and trailer arrived. The street looked as if the circus had come to town. One bobcat, operated by one man, was used to clear the brush from our yard to a neighboring lot of land. Five men with rakes looked on as the one man on the bobcat did the work. Not sure if any of them even put a hand on or lifted a piece of brush. Once the pile was moved from our yard, everyone went back to their trucks and spent at least 45 minutes not working. Upon the arrival of another truck and a can of gas, the work started again, same man on the bobcat, the rest shuffling around him watching as he now loaded the brush into a trailer to be hauled away. I was asked to pay $550 cash. I was not granted a bill to which I could identify exactly how much I was paying for this "crew" of men, and their leisurely time on my property. Blue Ox was available for our immediate need to have this work done, that is the only positive comment I have, and it's obvious that their excess of staff is probably the reason they could be hired so promptly. It was just a coincidence that my neighbors happened to be having a tree cut down the same day. I watched one hardworking man, with one truck and one trailer, take down a 30 foot tree in less time. Eddie called and scheduled an appointment with me right away after I submitted a quote request. During the walk through we discussed the best options for which branches and trees to remove for my project. I was working with a tight timeline for the removal and Eddie fit me in quickly. Four workers showed up on the day of the removal. They worked effectively and efficiently, yet they were very personable. I would hire them again and suggest them to anyone needing tree service. read more

I was very disappointed with the service we received from Blue Ox. We contacted them for an estimate in late June. We were quoted a great price and told the tree would be gone in 2 to 3 weeks. 4 weeks went by with absolutely no contact from anyone at the company. I called to inquire about a timeline - I spoke with a woman who was very apologetic and said Eddy (the man who gave us the estimate) would call me back ASAP. Two weeks went by with no contact. My husband called and was able to get ahold of him, but spent 10 minutes on the phone re-explaining who we were and what we wanted done. We were again told 2 to 3 weeks and again stood up. We then tried contacting Eddy twice more with no success. When we finally resorted to a new company and called to tell Eddy we would not be using Blue Ox after all, he said we were on the schedule for the next day! If we hadn't been lied to consistently up until this point, we may have believed him. We told him to forget it and moved forward with the other company. I'm disappointed in myself for giving so many chances and wish I would have contacted another company sooner. I understand people make mistakes and I am always willing to give a second chance, but was in absolute disbelief of the service we continued to receive. read more

I am very disturbed by something that happened with this company BLUE OX TREE SERVICE. I did not hire them for services and never will now. I have been waiting to get on the schedule since May with another company but we had agreed on the work and price. I decided to start lining up more estimates in Sept. and planned to cancel with the other company. I just got some companies lined up including sending BLUE OX an online request and the original company happens to call to say they will be out to do the work. The following Monday BLUE OX calls after emailing the wrong person. I explain that I no longer need the estimate. He asks me the company I have been waiting on. I tell him I'm not going to say. He throws out a guess, assumes he right and starts bad mouthing the company and my intelligence for accepting that offer. The conversation gets a little heated but I explain I am just being honest and trying to do the right thing. Thursday my doorbell rings. It's Eddy from BLUE OX. He acts like we had an appt for an estimate. I explain again and he plays dumb. Asks me what happened. I explain again and he accuses me of being dishonorable by getting estimates if I already had someone lined up. I explain again and then he accuses me of just going with the first estimate like an idiot. Then I recognized his voice. This was the guy I talked to on Monday. When I called him on it, all of a sudden he remembered the exact story and the bashing of the other company began. I wanted to throw him off my property. I am not happy I am waiting on the other company but that is my business. I felt like Eddy from BLUE OX intentionally tried to bully and intimidate me into taking his business. I felt uncomfortable, unsafe and I firmly believe he intentionally came to our home and misrepresented himself for the purposes of getting my business. read more

Eddie came out and gave us an estimate but wouldn't give it in writing. We called and requested two weeks in a row to get the estimate in writing. When he did call he didn't remember what he verbally estimated. He came out again and the price increased and he wrote his estimate on a door sign. Then he couldn't come because of the rain but was suppose to come out the following week and told us the day he would come. He did not come and called 2 hours after he agreed to be here and delayed it another week. We consequently found another service who gave us a written estimate with a time frame and for a significantly lower price. read more

New home owner here. Needed a medium-sized cherry tree removed and it went perfectly - would have no anxiety using them again and would recommend to anyone - all for a very reasonable price. To sum up: Fast, free quote - nice and professional. The price quoted was what I paid. Came on the date agreed to, ready to work, and they knew what they were doing. Finished very quickly and COMPLETELY tidied up after themselves (in the dead of winter). They even left the fresh mulch down after grinding the stump which was great for my situation. As a landlord, I've used Blue Ox a couple of times now. I have property in Lincoln but do not live there. It is so great to have a company that I can call and trust to get work done properly every time. Blue Ox answers their phone (rare these days), provides estimates within a day or so, communicates frequently via e-mail and text, even sending me photos so I don't have to travel to inspect the work. My tenants say that it looks like nothing ever happened because they clean-up so well after their work. Their prices are very competitive as well, so they are on my "go-to" list. read more
