My Yelp friend Monica E. said it was one of her favorite so I had to check it out. Willow Springs Lake was actually created in 1966 by the Arizona Game and Fish Department as a trout fishing lake. They regularly stock the lake with trout spring through fall increasing your chance of catching a fish. Willow Springs is the second most visited lake so there will be competition for those fish. Willow Springs Lake has held the Arizona State record for largest trout caught so there are some big fish in the lake. There is a campground about a mile away. The lake website said it was in walking distance but it's more than I want to walk with chairs, cooler, etc. The campground has no services (water, electricity, sewer hookups) so you need to come prepared. Overall, it's a beautiful blue, clean lake in a pine forest that is a wonderful place to see and enjoy.

The downside to that is that you are hiking in at the hottest part of the day. Which makes the water feel that much more refreshing. The hike isn't hard, you just follow the creek. Some people were in flip flops- which is doable, but the rocks can be quite slippery in places. Bring lots of water. There's some shade, but not tons. Oh- and watch out for the random cow. He's not friendly.

For $1.50/person, this includes the cost of admission, fishing bait, and the use of their fishing equipment. The check-in process was extremely fast, as you'll get a handful of bait and a bucket of water for the fish you'll catch. We did beat the rush and arrived about 30 minutes after they had opened. As the first ones to arrive, we had the advantage of scoping out our spot to fish. This is also great as the fish are hungry and ready to eat. So, within 40 minutes of arriving, we did catch three rainbow trout. We had caught 12", 14", and 16"! This was an epic activity to do as my son was extremely excited whenever we caught a fish and was eagerly happy to grab the net and remove the hook from the fish's mouth. Now, I do want to warn everyone that THERE IS NO NET FISHING, AS WELL AS CATCH AND RELEASE! You will be charged a fee of $25 if caught doing so. Now that we have caught our three fish, whichever fish you caught will be weighed at $1.25/inch. They do offer a cleaning service at the cost of $0.50/fish. Also, located around the ponds are a lot of grills and benches to cook your freshly caught, hard-earned fish. The grilling kit costs $1.50/fish, which includes a bag, plates, utensils, salt, pepper, butter, and garlic seasoning. There is a 2-hour limit use of the grill, but no cost to use it. Now, if you wanted to take your fish home to cook it, they can pack the fish with ice at $0.50/scoop of ice (one scoop would last about 30 minutes). Also, coolers are offered at $7.00/each, which is recommended if you plan a 2+ hour trip back to your kitchen. As a beginner to the fishing sport, this was a great activity to do with the family on your vacation! We went on a Monday 08/25 and we pulled up to a spot that I had been to a few weeks back that the NICE lady camp host let us stay in since there was NOBODY there and it wasn't reserved for that day or even the next. We paid 12 bucks and was able to stay and fish for a few hours. (Thank you nice lady camp host!)... Now the "other" camp host was just the opposite, he was already rude and angry when we go there. He demanded we leave the spot and said "I don't even want to hear it, move you truck!"m "Can you read the sign that says this is not a day area spot" He was yelling at my cousin and I so we were just trying to get back in the truck while he was still yelling. We just wanted to get out of there. I would not usually review a lake camp area, but this guy was ridiculously rude. He was a short older guy and his camp was a tiny trailer that looked home-mde to me. Anyways I hope the Government Park services see this because if makes the wrong person mad he would be a liablilty.

Awesome Father's Day at Tonto Bridge! Got there at 9am when the gate opens and even when we left…read morearound 11:30am on a Sunday there were plenty of parking spots still available in each parking lot. My husband had my 17 mo in a baby carrier and we did the whole loop. We spent a little over 2 hours here. Some parts were super slippery even without water present, esp more towards the bridge, but wear hiking boots and be sure of your footings and you're going to be just fine! Take your time. Stop every now and then and just look up. It's beautiful all the rocks and mountain cliffs. It's beautiful the whole loop trail. Under the bridge the breeze and spray from the water coming down is a treat after being sweating. We saw plenty of young children take on the rocky trails. If you can physically, do the entire big loop. It's worth it.

We are a little too unstable to try the various paths down to the creek, but we did walk on the…read morepath to the four viewing points of the bridge. We got there at 9:30 and the parking lot was almost empty. By the time we left, it was hopping. So from our perspective, the best time to go is early. Of the four viewing points, number one is best for the view of the bridge and number four is best for a view of the waterfall. The park and paths are well-maintained and the person in the gift shop that took our money was incredibly helpful and cheerful. We highly recommend this park.

Decided to come…read moreand have a look at Lake Mary unfortunately Lower Lake Mary is a dry land with weeds growing in it but Upper Lake Mary has some remnants of a water or like that used to be full at one time water is dirty but a nice view to see. People here are very active so you see a lot of people walking their dogs on the trail of Lake Mary.

It was very scenic, even though most of the leaves had fallen form the trees. There is a small beach at one location and small rapids for kayaking. Several dog walkers and a few mountain bikes were using the pathways. This would be a lovely place in the spring to fall when the trees are full.

This natural area is located next to Dead Horse Ranch State Park near Cottonwood. There is no…read morecamping or campfires in the riparian zone, but you can camp at Dead Horse Park. The river is stocked with bass, catfish, and bluegill. In the winter they stock it with trout. There is a lot of wildlife in this region to see. The Verde River is a great spot to canoe or kayak because of all the twists and turns in the river. You can load your boat at the ramp at the Tuzigoot River Access Point which has plenty of parking nearby. Swimming is at your own risk.

And holy moly people drive fast around here, there are children on scooters, others walking but no regard for them day or night. Be cautious if you're out there. I'm giving a second star because if it weren't for the humans around us ruining this experience, our spot C38 was really well shaded and large.
