Kaibab Lake Campground is located north of I-40 as you head towards the Grand Canyon (60 miles away). I have lost count as to how many times I have passed by this beautiful, well-maintained area without camping here, but this will no longer be the case. We stayed two nights here (June 7-8, 2016) and it wasn't enough during our weeklong trip. Dry camping only - tents, trailers, & RVs. No hook-ups. Just you, your posse, your home away from home. We found that the pull-through sites were not our style. The back-in sites were more level and seemed to have a better feel. If you end up with a pull-through site, though, you will still be a happy camper. It's mostly relatively quiet here. You can still kind of hear the I-40 and trains off in the distance. Otherwise, it's very peaceful. The campground hosts are really friendly and helpful. They sell firewood, ice cream, fishing bait and ice at their check-in area. PROS - vault toilets (but they actually smell nice & toilet paper is provided!) - paved roads & graveled sites - each site also has a fire ring with a grill & a picnic table - leashed pets are allowed - garbage AND recycle bins are nearby CONS - closed from October to April due to weather - no utilities or dump station (and please don't dump your grey water onto the ground!) - no running water except the potable water spigots (for drinking only... FYI... the lake is a water source for the City of Williams) TIPS - reserve your site online at recreation.gov - day use areas are by the lake - fishing is allowed - for license info. go to https://www.azgfd.com/ - daytime average temp. = 82°F & night time = 54°F. HOWEVER, these fluctuate. Be prepared. The pine trees smell amazing here. Or perhaps I had been inhaling the L.A. smog a bit too much - ha! The twinkling stars at night are a breath of fresh air too. The funny little Kaibab squirrels who to my surprise really didn't bother us... They are pretty flippin' smart. So fast. Too fast for cameras. Stay here at least one night if you get the chance! Lake was way too low to access safely. It was also very muddy due to recent monsoons. Campground is nice but without hookups. Fishing was relaxing but the catching was zilch. We will wait for the lake to fill before we go again. read more

This place is not for you if you want to enjoy nature, quiet evenings, and appreciate safety. Friday night: loud bumping music (loud enough to over power your music), BRIGHT lights at multiple campsites (bright enough to reach your paid space). And holy moly people drive fast around here, there are children on scooters, others walking but no regard for them day or night. Be cautious if you're out there. Saturday night: the exact same experience plus a loud generator now. I'm giving a second star because if it weren't for the humans around us ruining this experience, our spot C38 was really well shaded and large. read more

We just spent three nights at this campground and had a great time. Super clean, the spots were well spread out for a campground like this, and fun being right on the lake. Our kids loved fishing every day. We also loved being close to the little town of Williams so we could enjoy Bearizona and the breweries. The only thing that we didn't love was that people drive pretty fast on the roads in the campground. Wish they would slow down for the safety of campers (especially when you have little ones) but I realize that the campground can only control that so much. We would absolutely be back. read more

This place is beautiful. Grounds are nice and clean. We didn't fish here, but I believe it is permitted. Our group mainly checked out the lake and walked around for a little while. The name of it is Cataract Lake. There were patches of snow around. Some people in our group made snow angels. We ended up having a snowball fight which was a lot of fun. Nothing crazy though because there were kids in our group. Restroom was a toilet above a huge deep pit. You probably want to be careful with any valuables. If it falls in, you won't be able to fish it out and probably wouldn't want to. Air is nice and fresh, trees are beautiful. A lot of nice scenery including mountains in the background. Great place for people that love the outdoors. If you're ever in Williams, Arizona come check this place out. read more

Sure is nice to go for a walk during their off season. I like the way the camping spaces are so roomy. Some of them come equipped w a bbq on site. Nice lake and plenty of forest to roam on. The cutest little Abert squirrels and chipmunks too! I didn't see any showers, I looked, so bring your wipies water and bath towels to sponge bathe. Lol we sure liked it hopefully one day we will camp here. Just a couple pics of the campsites to give you an idea. read more

Beautiful tree filled grounds. RV sites were spacious and level and very quiet. Sites are spread out so there's a good amount of privacy. Only thing preventing me in giving 5 stars is that there are no hookups. Short walk to the lake for fishing with a nice fishing pier. Dog friendly. Camp hosts were readily available and had lots of information on Arizona. We'll be back for sure! read more

Beautiful campground located in the Kaibab forest but just a few minutes from Williams. Campground was situated on a gorgeous lake. Sites were spacious, paved, and had a fire pit. Bathrooms are pit toilets and no showers, but very clean. Great for a night or short weekend. read more

What a great place to stay! It is all "dry camping" so no hook ups but if you love the wilderness this place is awesome. They have outhouse toilets but keep them very clean. All the RV spaces are spread out so you have privacy. Some people were pulling out huge trout and catfish out of the lake there. And the weather was wonderfully cool. There is no fires allowed right now but that's pretty much for all of Arizona though. But if you have a portable propane fire pit that's allowed. I'm looking forward to visiting again read more

I almost don't want to write this review, as spots like this become discovered and shed their "cool factor" as they get crowded...but I am a loyal Yelp Experience Supplier, so here goes. (Sharing is hard!!!!) This campground is excellent, in every sense of the word. The views, the cool breezes, the lonely coyote howling at 5am (wildlife!!), the cool lake waters, the views. Our campsite was large and level, site #44, which had a view of the lake through the trees. A short walk to the restrooms, as well as the camp host area if we needed firewood. Fire restrictions were in place the Friday before we arrived (mid May 2018), so check before you arrive and save the space and weight if you don't need to bring extra wood. The campground was quiet, save for the peaceful drone of a long away train horn, or diesel locomotive throttling up. Some highway noise was perceptible, but mostly the errant loud Harley Davidson headed up to the Grand Canyon. These mild intrusions were not detractors for us at all, as the hustle and bustle of our daily lives melted away at Kaibab Lake. The camp hosts here are fantastic! Attentive, polite (but firm, just right to keep order), and always available if you needed anything. We didn't, but we appreicated the kind camp host who helped pick up our Raven destroyed trash can while we were out exploring. We walked around the campground and checked out all of the camp loops. We were situated on Loop C, which has lake views all along its shore. This is also a very RV friendly campground, with everything from camper vans to full sized self contained units. Kid friendly with a few geocaches hidden here and there (no spoilers), and pet friendly with a leash as well. We have already cancelled our booked campsite in Big Bear, California and rebooked here for our return trip in early June 2018. Can't speak highly enough of the beautifully maintained campground! read more

I stayed here at Group Site 62. It was a spacious and fairly private site. Water and vault toilets were at least a 5 minute walk from the site. The campground was quiet although almost full. Toilets were clean. Camp hosts were friendly. Another reviewer stated campfires are not allowed by the campground. That is not true. The forest is currently under fire precautions including prohibiting fires. Nice size fishing lake. Large amount and variety of birds here including scrub jays, bald eagle, vultures, herons. No showers. Park Ranger gave an interesting talk on forest fire fighting. read more

My boys and I had a blast here in May. It was the very beginning of the season at Kaibab and we just about had the place to ourselves. Of course it did SNOW both days....in MAY! The camp hosts were very friendly, the campground was clean, well marked, and nicely spread out so even if it was more full you wouldn't feel like you were right on top of your neighbor. This is a combined RV/tent place so there was some generator noise from our one neighbor who was presumably running his heat in the frigid, wet, snowy weather...wimp! Camp fires have movable grills and every site (as far as I could tell) had a nice stone picnic table and good tent clearing. Campground is well shaded and everything is close to the lake. Will def be back again. read more

This awesome campground is closed for renovations through late 2011, but the day use area is still open for fishing, picnics and walks. The lake is a great place to stop on your way to or from the Canyon. It is always refreshing to see water in Arizona! We love to stretch our legs here with our dogs. No running water. Toilet was a hole in the ground and no showers. There was one spigot but was only allowed to use for drinking. The campground itself is nice and secluded. I'm actually quite fine with the no running water rule, but it was quite disappointing that the campground was under fire restriction because if there's no campfire, then it's not camping. Especially since we were on a road trip and I had promised my niece the chance to make s'mores on this road trip which didn't happen because Arizona campgrounds were all under fire restrictions, and we got rained out of New Mexico and Texas. However, despite our misfortune, I can tell the campground was very nice. I had the chance to go for a sunrise walk, and it was very peaceful. Especially looking over the little lake on the fishing dock. That's why I still give it 5 stars. read more

This place was great. Very quiet, nice paved roads leading to graveled sites complete with stone picnic bench and firepit. Lots of room and tent pads. Probably could have fit 3 decent sized tents there. No light pollution allows for a completely clear sky that's great for star-viewing. And this place had the cleanest and fresh bathrooms I have seen at campgrounds like this! A nice place to camp and about an hour from the majestic Grand Canyon! read more

Very nice! The whole camp ground is paved and the sites have great, level paved pads. It was pretty full as we were there just a couple of days before Memorial Day weekend. I think there were only a few sites available and the hosts told us they were booked for the weekend. Reservations are probably your best bet to guarantee yourself a spot. The area is beautiful with a lake you can fish on. I can't report on the fishing there cuz we don't fish. But there we several folks out trying their luck. The campground was very clean and also very quiet. Burn restrictions were in place so that may have contributed to most folks not hanging outside. But it was a great place to relax. read more

The campground is awesome with paved spots and concrete tables with a fire pit in every site. Some spots are a little close to others but not bad. Make sure to bring your bikes because the whole family can ride around the entire campground. The camp hosts do a very good job of keeping it clean and debris off the roadways. There are no hookups for campers so it is dry camping but you have access to drinking water at all of the many on site restrooms. It is a great spot with a bunch of nearby attractions surrounding it. read more

Beautiful, safe, and clean campsite. We stayed Wednesday through Saturday last week. Impressive restrooms were large and very clean, and always stocked with lots of toilet paper. Vault toilets and not smelly. No showers available. The road is completely paved. The lake is lovely but no swimming. Lots of people fish and on Saturday the day use parking was full, weekdays less busy. You can take boats and kayaks on the lake and one family had an inflatable raft. We were at campsite 68 which was on the complete other side, which meant it was really quiet and away from the noise of people accessing the lake. It was really close to the restroom. Partial shade and lots of trees, there was nothing but forests in front of us. The campsites have lots of space. No wild animals except for 4 wild cows I heard Saturday morning at 5am and my husband saw them walking down the main road from the campground. Check the national park page for fire restrictions. There was one last week so no camp fire for us, and the camp host reminded us too. The only thing that was unexpected was that almost everyone had rv/campers and not many tent campers. We took our tent and wanted an authentic camping experience but our neighbors to the left, right, back of us, and around our loop were in rvs or campers despite no hookups. There is a very tiny section for tent only camping but it's small and campsites appear close together. We didn't camp in the tent only section but saw it by the entrance on the drive up. If you have a tent you might want to take a rake to move small rocks and debris from trees and such. We chose this place for its proximity to places we wanted to check out with our young kids; Bearizona (literally 3 min down the street), a deer farm where you can feed lots of deer (about 8 min down the 40 freeway), an hour from the Grand Canyon, and an hour from Sedona. read more

Super cool place! We made reservations online to make sure we had a spot for the weekend to get out of the heat. Wished they had showers but other than that this place was great and the staff took good care of this camp ground. The lake is not huge but plenty big to walk around and enjoy the weather and atmosphere with the kids. They sell ice, firewood, ice cream, and bait right at the entrance and there are pretty clean bathrooms with fresh water to drink. No electric hook up or waste water dump that we could see. Also we are only 5-10 minutes away from Williams, AZ so you could actually go out to eat for every meal and/or go shopping and there is even a Safeway grocery store in town. I will most definitely go back to this lake in the future. read more

Campground was great and we met some real nice people. Thursday morning the tribe move in with 5 people and 2 dogs that wouldn't stop barking 24-7. Everyone around us complain. Camp host said they would get them to leave. Instead they wanted me to turn my RV around or go to a different spot. This spot was perfect for us. I'm handicap and just had a double bypass so can't walk very far. SO I TOLD THEM WHERE TO GO. My wife and I decided to go home. If you got dogs that bark a lot take them to Kaibab campground they don't mine having barking dog. read more

Stayed 6 days & 5 nights over Memorial Day weekend, and would definitely go here again. Occupied a double spot ($40 a night) with a travel trailer and a motor home. No hookups at this campground, but there's a Love's travel center just 4 miles away where you can dump and get water again for 10 bucks, so we did that mid-weekend. The campground was full but quiet, and the spots are spacious and not close together. The little lake was stocked for fishing and a lot of fun for kayaking. Also had fun biking around. It's nice that some spots are reservable and some are designated as first come, first served. You pay by cash or check, but I didn't like not being given a receipt. Campground hosts were very nice. If you're up to boondock or tent camping, this is a great campground. If they had full hookups for RVs I would give 5 stars, but I think the nightly rate should be less since there's no hookups. (ie. We recently stayed at Fool Hollow Lake just outside of Show Low in a double spot for just $55 a night WITH full hookups) read more
