The produce selection is unparalleled to any place in the area. We bought bags and bags of produce and made a caprese salad with orange and red tomatoes and basil from the farm. We grilled the veggies and had blueberry shortcake for dessert. They have shortcake and pie crusts next to the fruit - so smart!! Additionally they have homemade pretzels, pasta, pie crust, shortcake, dishcloths, pot holders, candles etc. They also sell plants - ferns, flowers, succulents etc. In the fall they will sell pumpkins and many varieties of apples. Everyone that works there is so kind and helpful. The prices are fantastic. Great selection, superb service and a fun place to visit. It's beautiful and quiet. It is a beautiful farm filled with trees, plants, succulents... anything you need for your flower/plant needs. But it is a secret gem that hides the most amazing sandwich shop in the area. It is filled with fresh bread, baked goods and most amazing pies, fresh fruit and vegetables. But all of it hides this amazing sandwich shop that has one of the best Philly Cheese Steaks. It is gooey with melted cheese and if you ask for chopped hot peppers... you can get the perfect blend of banana peppers and jalapeño peppers to get the kick! The veritable cherry on top of their cornucopia of fruits, vegetables, jarred foods, baked goodies, pretzels, popcorn, candies, and frozen foods is their Whoopie Pie Festival, which we attended today. The Festival runs on Feb. 26-28 & March 5-7 between 9am - 4pm. Essentially, you can create Your Own Whoopie Pie for $4 each, 4 or more at $3.50 each, and 12 or more $3 each. Here's how it works - make your customized selections of one of 12 cookies, one of 11 frostings, and one of 7 toppings, and Brecknock will build your pie. I went full Elvis mode and selected banana cookies, peanut butter frosting, and chocolate chip toppings around the circumference. We had a great time at Brecknock -making our Whoopie pies, playing a whoopie pie trivia game, and picking up a few odds and ends for us and friends. PRO TIP Hats off to Brecknock for their generosity and hospitality. They had free samples everywhere- whoopie pie wedges, pretzels, popcorn, and all sorts of goodies. Our younger daughter wanted to try a few raspberries before deciding whether she liked them. We made an honest mistake and understood when we were told that this was not allowed. We apologized and offered to pay for the raspberries, and we even paid an extra $4 for the couple she had tried. What bothered us was how the situation was handled. A woman came out from the house and spoke to us in a condescending manner, even asking whether we would eat food from a grocery store before paying for it. We apologized and agreed to pay, but the situation continued even after we had left the fields. The woman called the checkout desk about us as we were making our way to pay. We were happy to acknowledge our mistake and pay for what was taken. We simply expected the situation to be handled with a little more courtesy and understanding, especially since we immediately offered to make it right, and have been repeat customers. The farm itself is a nice setting, but based on our experience, the customer service left a lot to be desired. If you're trying to teach your kids what good customer service looks like, this probably isn't the place to do it.
