I remember countless times nipping into Wilkos with my boyfriend for something like, shampoo say, and having to drag him away from all the tools and plugs and so on in some bizarre role reversal. This would be a similar kind of place I imagine, and so I'm rather glad I found it without his company! Generally speaking, they sell hardware, houseware, garden equipment, ironmongery and gifts. This essentially means that anything practical, rustic, perfunct and such lies within. Need a new washing bin? Done. Need a new shower head? Done. Need a new lawnmower? Done. Need a new iron? Done. Need a new set of dinner plates? Done. Need a new ... ad infinitum ... Done. You get the idea, right? They have almost anything housey that you could need.

Peter Jones is somewhat of a staple gift provider/home wares kind of shop. I think the thing is though, as I've gotten older I've come into my own in terms of my shopping choices and expectations. What I mean by this is that I want more than big brands, as they offer less and less personal, individual items. I could go into any Peter Jones and find something very Peter Jones to give someone, and I'm certain they could hazard a guess that it was a Peter Jones number. Still, that's not to say there is nothing inside of worth. Oddly, at the time of looking, their front window was covered with handbags and jewellery. Perhaps I don't go often enough, but it was really bizarre to me - I didn't understand where all the little ceramic dogs had gone! It seemed they were having some kind of a handbag and jewellery bonanza which made it look like a completely different store. Still, there were some really lovely bags on show, from the sweet embroidered little 'pouch' style bags, to the more sturdy leather style ones. These were accompanied by some really chunky jewellery, some really nice purple and jade hue beaded ribbon necklaces, which I thought looked pretty nice. At any rate, jewellery, handbags or little ceramic animals - Peter Jones is always there for a last minute gift in a crisis. And they do have some really nice ornamental items inside too. And this is on pure aesthetic judgement alone, of course, but I imagine that once I am in a position to spend a lot on a kitchen it'll be so that it looks the part. One can search independently for reliable white goods, but style is not so easy to come by I guess. The first items to catch my eye were the glittery, chic lampshades, which dangled over a sleek work top. Everything seemed to be placed, not only for functionality, but for class and visual effect. Even the pots they had on display were mirror shiny stainless steel - so pristine that you could see yourself in them. I think it's the detail, and the lack of fuss, that I liked most. Given that my other rooms hold so much clutter it was nice to see a stylish space organised in a way that would hide all of the messy utensils and so on. Of course, their kitchen design isn't limited to this show room, there are many many other impressive designs on their website too so take a good browse. I think you'll agree, once you've navigated to their online gallery (it's not massively easy to find, but it is there) that there is a lot of choice and style going on!

After two weeks and calls from me chasing them I have given up. They promised to return my calls and give a collection date but never called me back. Very poor service. Despite me explaining that I was disabled and need to get the mower fixed before the grass becomes unmanageable.

Inside it is packed with all kinds of ornaments and gift items, including some awesome vintage styled wire frame candle holder type lampshades, cute garden ornament animals and beautiful vintage style birdcages. I don't even know why I want a quirky birdcage, but I do, and Leaves and Linen stocks lots of them! I think they'd make a great jewellery and scarf holder, certainly it would look really funky, but perhaps for the more experimental person even a great flower pot holder! As well as this there are flowers, cards, linens, throws, terracotta and many other troves of gifts and such inside. Apparently all of the stock is hand picked by the owner from all over the world and this personalised sense of style is apparent throughout. Everything you could want for the home and garden are within and there is brilliant advice on offer too for throwing about ideas. For the shiny obsessed magpies out there this is a delightful shop. The whole shop is nearly entirely filled with beautiful, colourful flowers but I was disappointed to find they were all fake, after a brief period of amazement! Oh well, they last longer, right? There are real, alive flower outside the shop. The man working there was eager to be of help then politely left me to look around when I said I was 'just looking'.
