I went skiing here for the first time today. TL;DR: worth it.
Firstly, there are literally no lift lines! That's because there are no lifts. You are the lift. But you should make a reservation. They limit visitors to (I thnk) 200 per day, so there's a chance you can't just show up.
Secondly, free bacon at the Perch. There is a geodesic dome there where they have a wood burning stove and the cook bacon. Think of it as a warming hut, but with bacon.
I rented everything and took a lesson. By "renting everything", I mean, I rented a pack, beacon, probe and shovel (all required for avalanche safety), skis, boots, and poles. I brought my own helmet, goggles, gloves and other clothes. I took the BC1 (Back Country level 1) lesson and it was a half day intro to everything. There is no shame is not knowing how the bindings work or putting skins on backwards (I'm sure this happens, not saying I did it). It is a safe space to ask basic questions.
Be sure to be aware and comfortable with your layers. When you get into the aspens and out of the wind, it gets "warm" quickly and you may want to shed layers or slow it down.
The terrain is pretty vast for not having lifts and there is plenty of varied terrain for all abilities. Unless you're some sort of super athlete, you likely won't get to ski it all in a day.
All the staff I interacted with there were very nice and knowledgable. They do know their stuff.
I'll be sure to book my BC2 as soon as I get a chance. That one is a full day lesson. read more
