I've been a Bluehost customer since 2010, but my experience with them--and their parent company, Newfold Digital--has gone from bad to worse over the years. Upgrading to a dedicated server was supposed to be a game-changer for performance and speed. Instead, it turned into a nightmare. After paying $100 per site for migration, my websites were down for an entire week. Once they were finally back up, speed tests revealed my site was actually slower than before. Twelve months into my expensive 3-year plan, things deteriorated even further. My site started experiencing major issues, and despite hours of troubleshooting with Bluehost's support team over a period of 3 months--alongside my own team of 4 web techs--they couldn't resolve the problems. Their "solution" was to blame outdated hardware and pressure me to upgrade again. When I requested to remain on the same dedicated server plan but simply move to updated hardware with better resources, they gave me two unacceptable options: 1. Forfeit the $1,100 remaining on my current plan and pay more for modest improvements. 2. Upgrade to an outrageously expensive plan, almost doubling my costs, and with no option to ever downgrade. This level of greed and inflexibility was the final straw. Rather than throw more money at a company with such poor customer service and hosting quality, I walked away and ate the $1,100 loss. I would not recommend Bluehost or Newfold Digital to anyone. Their chat function and the reps on the chat function are not only unhelpful, they have actually made situations worse. I have resorted to only calling now. The call center is in the Philippines and the folks there are courteous and professional, although I have had to escalate an issue to supervisor/manager level three times over the past two months to get any resolution. The chat option should be DISABLED as, wherever that team is in the world, they are completely unhelpful and, as of the past two months, left issues unresolved or made matters worse. I have spent several hours on phone and chat multiple time in last 12 months and its frustrating. their chat is a joke and utter waste of time, their call tech support not much better... they simply run the same checks over and over and have little real experience. I spoke with support supervisors and they seem knowledgeable and say they will run checks and call me back but doesn't happen and left starting from scratch again..... it is no wonder why they now have such low ratings online. Terrible! They are a total ripoff. I got an email telling me that I if I didn't renew my domain name that day, that I was in danger of losing it. I called them, and said that my domain name was registered for another year. The guy that I spoke to said that owning the domain name and registering the domain name are 2 different things. That sounded like bs, but I was nervous and I paid the $20.99 that they were asking for. Then, after doing much research, I found out that the guy definitely lied to me. I called back and demanded to have a copy of the recording of my conversation with that guy. They refused. I used bluehost about 10 years ago for my personal website. I cancelled the service roughly 5 years ago. Since then, they've attempted to bill my credit card twice. The first time (about 3 years ago) they were successful, but I disputed the charge with my credit card company, and they put a block on any future charges from blue host. This January, Blue Host attempted to charge my card four times, but were blocked. I called Blue Host and they said "Your account was cancelled/expired/disabled on January xx, 2025, so we won't bill you any longer." That statement is absurd, because I cancelled my account 5 years ago. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE, or if you do, keep an eye on your credit card statements forever. read more

After many frustrating hours on the phone trying to get our SSL certificate renewed, someone in sales (support was no help) suggested that we upgrade our plan so that the SSL would auto renew. Bluehost then charged us the same amount twice for one upgrade. When I requested that one of the charges be removed, Bluehost said "sure" and then canceled our plan altogether. As a result, our company's email and website were shut down for several days. I will never know how much business we lost because of Bluehost. But I do know that I lost a significant amount of time, money and sleep. Canceling our account and getting a refund also was an epically miserable process. One year in, they changed their offering; although they are under contract, they rescinded the sitelock, which was free; they now insist that I purchase it for $95 a year--telling me that no wordpress app will provide any safety. Is there a 0 star rating? I have had three significant support issues over the last 3-4 years and none of them have ever ended up with a resolution OR a decent answer as to why the situation occurs. My most recent one is below: Initiated contact via CHAT and CALL and explained problem and asked for escalation. This all started 12/20/22. Response 1 was from Vikas A simply telling me to change the wild card characters as he state they were wrong; even quoted an article stating as such. SO I tested (using many REG EXP engines AND your own test function) the use of the + and the * (which is what I originally used) and found that all the REG EXP engines (and your own internal tester) I tested against used BOTH wild card characters equally. At this time I also pressed the issue that I needed to know what Reg Exp engine is Bluehost using ( I have asked that MULTIPLE times of MULTIPLE agent; including managers and STILL NO ANSWER) so I could ensure my expressions were correct... I have yet STILL to get that answer. However your documentation stream seems to point to PCRE and PCRE uses both + and * as a wild card. I tried responding to my email case a couple times and no answer so I called and asked for escalation and Manager John told me that my email (the one above describing all that) did not make it to the case and that this was an ongoing issue with BH support system so he agreed to close S-2088108 and OPEN with links to that case and extra notes a new case; S-2103382. He also agreed to add priority to this case and attach my email above to it. After that was done I waited again the answer I got from escalation was telling me the filters are working but cited a use case using the filter type SUBJECT / CONTAINS and I was not having problem with CONTAINS I was having trouble with REG EXP and apparently no one seems to get that. Anyway I responded right away and waited. The next Saturday (yesterday - 1/21/23) I called again and asked for a manager and got Manager Ron who said my case was closed again. He agreed to open and link it to old case (S-2088108) and stated it was not linked... YET MANAGER JOHN previously said he would link it and add better notes... and "it seems" he did not. Anyway Manager Ron re-opened my case and said the same things Manager John said and then I waited for a response. Today (Sunday 1/22/23) I get a response from Rashmi K simply restating that the response I got previously was correct and that was the response that tested CONTAINS not REG EXP... SO they did not even dig into the notes of the case OR the notes were not in that case in which case every agent I have spoken to AND the two managers (John and Ron) did NOT do their job. Well Blue Host, I had this issue back in October and it took a week for me to receive emails. Customer service/chat is horrible and Blue Host keeps you in a terrible doom loop. I switched my blog over to Blue Host because I was told they had excellent customer support. So far, the customer tech support has been ABYSMAL - and on top of that, I have been double charged - I haven't even started to deal with that issue yet. AFter being on the phone an hour earlier today, I was bumped up to a higher tech level. I had to go as I had another appointment. I did get a case number, though, and was told I could call back. That has proven to be disastrous. No one now seems to know what is going on, in spite of the previous case and number, and sending screen shots of my issue. And I;m being told now, in the mid-afternoon, that there is no higher level support person available, After being on the phone with them again for a good while (over 20 minutes). I would call the corporate office and complain, but can't find a number on line for that! I'm reading their tech support has been outsourced to an offshore company. Yeah - it really shows. I switched to BlueHost because they had a great rating. I don't know how that happened. The customer support is horrible. They talk down to you. They refuse to transfer you to a more tech-savvy person. They won't give a number for a department that knows how to help. They make you start at Square One - tell your whole story - give you the same advice you just told them you already got.......when you get understandably upset they just repeat their lines about how mail works. ARGGGH! I have called with the SAME ISSUE for a month. Sometimes they say it will be fixed -"Give it a few hours or days." It is NEVER FIXED. At the end of my call today, they told me they don't even OFFER the 365 upgrades. The upgrade option you are directed to call in order to add. The number I called 4 -5 times, asking the same questions, answering the same questions, looking at one thing and another. What was the point if they don't offer it? THE WORST! When I switched my companies email to blue host they, for some reason, attached our email to someone else that had an account with them that had a similar name to mine. It then took 3 weeks to get our emails back from that person as they had to release the email addresses. All the while I was having to talk with customer service over seas that didn't understand me, hung up on me and treated me as if I had done something wrong. THEY ARE HORRIBLE. I too chose them as I read good reviews but I have no idea who is giving them good reviews. Maybe that was before they sent everything overseas and now nothing works. Charged without my consent $ 40 for plus hosting, wrongly explained how to do a back-up of the website, deleted my hosting though I asked to wait so I did a back-up, then another week did not know how to fix the 404 error website. I made a life record - 2:30 hours of continuous mobile conversation with the specialist and guess what? - with no help at the end. Some of the agents (2 cases) just holded me for 30-40 minutes so I heard the sounds of crowded office, with no words. 1 star is too much for them! read more

Bluehost does not uphold their services based on your invoice! Last March I bought my domain and it came with three years of SSL protection. I signed up for a three year basic domain too. The only thing that was supposed to be renewed this year was the domain name. I get an email saying my products are due for renewal, so I log in to check. I noticed the SSL was expiring, so I referenced my invoice and it clearly shows 3 year term! I go through to renew the domain name and there is the basic domain service saying to renew too... but even on my account screen it says it is good for two more years! So what the heck? Spoke to support but they would not honor the three years SSL (said, "Sorry, our terms of service changed so now it was only good for one year") and would not even answer me about the Basic domain. When I finally said "you're not answering my question" they said, "about what?" So after 4 times, I typed, "Why is it trying to renew my basic domain when that doesn't expire for another 2 years?" and what do they say? "You have to pay every year for the SSL..." I gave up and just ended the chat. This is the third big issue I've had with them. I've had a slew of log in/service interruptions and for the first three months, my email was being blocked by junk mail folders for major contracts I had going out! Avoid them! read more

I've been with Bluehost for about 4 days and have already spent over 15 hours of my time on hold with their terrible support team. I tried explaining to the rep that I've rented a new apartment, but when I went to move in the landlord had rented it to two different people, and I only have a set amount of time to get out of my old place. He took that analogy and ran with it, responding with "Well I would say that you shouldn't move in to a new place without an inspection?" He did one better though, and followed up with "Look, there is an admin that is working on your account, and he probably has other tasks and responsibilities that he's supposed to be handling." Wow dude! Your'e really terrible at customer service. You've got some balls, but you deserve to be fired for placing blame on the customer when the company you represent made a major mistake that is costing the customer time & money. I can't speak to how well Bluehost servers run once everything is operational because I've yet to experience that. What I can speak to is their horrible support and customer service reps. The devs / admins are incredibly slow. The people or automation they're using to create accounts is definitely incapable of the task. I've worked with at least 20 hosting providers over the years and have never experienced this level of incompetence. Nor have I been treated so rudely by a level 1 support agent. I paid for my website to be migrated to BlueHost for hosting on 1/24/2023. It took multiple emails back and forth to get the process started and was supposed to be completed on 2/14/2023. I contacted them on 3/21/2023 because my website was still not being hosted by BlueHost. I had to personally redirect the servers, although I paid for the service to be done. That took 4 days because I was given misinformation. Next, there were multiple issues with the security certificates. After numerous phone calls and over a week to address those issues, I realized that my email accounts were not working. It took multiple phone calls to resolve that issue. Although it has been over 2 months, my website was never migrated properly. I have had to spend dozens of hours on the phone with BlueHost support and my website is still not functioning properly. Today, for instance, I have made 3 phone calls and have been on the phone with support 120 minutes and counting. My issue has still not been resolved. I have requested to speak to a supervisor/ manager on several occasions, but my request has either been refused or I was told that they would call me back which never occurred. read more

The account representative was sarcastic and demeaning. The interface and bloat ware (if that is what you call it) - the 'additional' items "Monstersomething" and "Jetpack" are not easily understood. What a complete and total rip off!
