Working with this property management company has been an infuriating, embarrassing experience from start to finish. I am genuinely disgusted by the level of incompetence on display here. They cannot handle the most basic tasks -- replacing a light bulb apparently requires an act of Congress -- yet they'll call you on a Sunday evening to nag about petty nonsense that could wait until Monday. Financially, this company operates like a shakedown. They nickel-and-dime you on every single line item, while locking owners into lowball rental rates and then fighting you when you ask to bring rents up to market value. "Recommended" rates are presented as flexible, but pushing to adjust them upward gets resistance in practice. As an owner, I've been ignored, ghosted, and ultimately disrespected. Requests go unanswered for days. Maintenance and cleaning are shoddy at best -- an outright embarrassment for a company whose entire job is supposed to be maintaining property standards. Wish I could give zero stars. I posted an earlier version of this review, and rather than address a single specific issue, the company had it removed and responded elsewhere claiming they couldn't "verify" my experience. I have documented correspondence -- maintenance requests, calls, rate discussions -- supporting every claim here, and I'm prepared to share it if this pattern of deflection continues. Last week my family of 15 completed our weeks stay at Esperanza. Before I share the reason for my writing I would like to share some background. My mother and father discovered EI 70 years ago when my dad was stationed at Camp Lejeune and my mother was a school teacher in Swansboro. Our family has been vacationing on EI for the last 60 years and to a person, EI is our favorite place on earth. Many of us cry when we have to leave to come home. Over those 60 years we have rented at least 40 different homes, and many of those rentals have been through Bluewater. Not once over that time have we written to complain about our rental home. This will be the first time. There were so many problems with the house I had to keep a list. 1- The water pressure was horrible. 15 of us stayed in the home and if more than 2 people showered at the same time and/or if the washing machine was running the water pressure was so bad nothing came out of other bathroom faucets or shower heads. When I say nothing that is exactly what I mean. There wasn't even a drip of water. We had to put together a showering schedule to get through every day. 2- The deck chairs were haggard and need replacement. One of the rocking chairs was so bad it tipped over backwards when anyone tried to use it becoming a risk for injury. 3- The grill was so full of crud under the burners it was non-usable. We tried using it our first night to cook burgers but the crud caught on fire and we had to use the 2 griddles in the kitchen to finish cooking the burgers. I called the Bluewater maintenance number the next day to report this. One person came out that afternoon to look at it but did nothing. Another maintenance person arrived a few hours later and said the grill should probably be replaced. Two days later nothing had been done so I called again. I was told you were waiting to get the homeowners permission to replace it. The next day someone from your office came out it and cleaned the grill. By that point we had no more meals to cook on the grill and did not use it. 4- Two of the doors to the outside would not lock so I also called about that. The maintenance person came out of looked at them and said portions of those 2 doors were corroded which was causing the problem. He showed me how to make the locks work but it was still extremely hard to operate. After we locked the door to the main deck each night, it was quite a struggle to reopen it the next morning. 5- The bottom drawer on one of the dishwashers would not pull out. 6- There was sand in one of the beds. 7- The dining room chairs were rickety and unstable and were a hodge podge of designs. Additionally there were not enough chairs in the dining room for all 15 of us to be seated. We had to bring chairs in from the bedrooms so we could all sit together. 8- There was black mold in the master bedroom shower. 9- The microwave door was hard to open. 10- The check out rules state the pool toys should all be picked up and put away. We followed that rule before we left yesterday morning. That is not the way we found the pool area when we arrived last Saturday. They were scattered everywhere in and around the pool. 11- There was a nasty stain on one of the living room cushions. 12- The shower heads fell of the wall in 3 of the bathrooms. 13- The wifi was so bad in the bunk bed room the TV was not operational. There were other areas of the house where the wifi did not work. 14- The outdoor railing from the pool to the deck above was very loose and a possible danger. 15- There were a lot of ants on the window sill behind the bench were family sat to eat meals. Many family members would not sit there because it creeped them out thinking of the ants crawling up there back. 16- The oven cooks unevenly and took twice as long to cook as it should have to bake things. As you read this list you will probably ask why didn't I call during the week to ask for these things to be addressed. The answer to that question is twofold: 1- with the exception of the grill and the door locks, the balance of these issues were not fixable within the week, 2- we didn't want your people in and out of the house all week interrupting our vacation. In 2011 we rented this same home and I don't recall any of these issues. It is why we were comfortable renting the home for this trip. 3 of the people on this years trip were visiting EI for the first time. Quite frankly the home had so many problems that it was embarrassing to my wife and I hosting these 3 newbies to have this first impression of an EI home. Upon our return home I wrote to Bluewater Vacation Rentals with this list of concerns and requested a partial refund. A short time ago I heard back from Kristen Castro in the Bluewater office offering me a $150 credit as long as we book future trips with homes owned by the same owner. I told her that was totally unacceptable and I will never rent from Bluewater again. read more

I rented JUST ENOUGH for the week and I need to warn others not to do the same. I've never written a Yelp review but I just had to let others know the condition of this property. The house is dingy and poorly decorated in a way that makes you question the cleanliness. But, the largest problem is the overwhelming mildew/mold smell that you can't get out of your nose. I dealt with the Atlantic Beach office... Bluewater failed to provide the secure, private, and habitable accommodations for which we contracted and paid. We experienced serious habitability issues, repeated intrusions upon our privacy, and significant distress affecting my family, including my disabled veteran husband and his service dog. Furthermore, Bluewater failed to meet the standards required under North Carolina's Vacation Rental Act, and the circumstances surrounding our stay substantially interfered with our use and enjoyment of the property. The repeated communication failures among maintenance personnel, property management, and the property owner compounded these issues and resulted in ongoing disruptions throughout our stay. Bluewater's failure to properly coordinate repairs, maintenance activities, and property access led to repeated intrusions upon our privacy, compromised our sense of security, and deprived us of the peaceful enjoyment of the premises that we were entitled to expect under our rental agreement. read more

I've rented from Bluewater for the last 3 or 4 years without incident. Last year I rented a place that had multiple dead roaches on the floor on the day I checked in. Bluewater stated that the dead roaches and living roaches were "palmetto bugs" and so everything was good. They sent someone out to spray that home and the roaches died. They refused to allow me to terminate the two month lease. 2026. I rented a home for January and February and this home has German cockroaches as seen in the photos. Now they're willing me to rent other properties that are not commensurate with what I rented. They're dragging their feet. I can take their two lesser properties or go home. This started as a miserable case of poor communication by the staff at Bluewater and devolved from there. When we got there the high speed wifi wasn't working. When I called to see if someone could come out and fix it they said it might be a couple of days. A follow up phone call led to the staffer hanging up on me and then all I got was a recording saying someone would call back. No one ever did. Five days after we got there a technician showed up unannounced and I explained that we resolved the issues ourselves. For a couple of days we had no TV, poor phone service, no laptops or tablets and it was all due to a simple router problem that Bluewater would not address. The property itself, "Red Roof East" was abominable. The only place to sit inside was a large sectional couch that was in such bad shape that it would swallow you whole making it difficult to simply stand up. The cabinets and cookware appeared to be from the late 70s or early 80s and worn out. Even the toaster wasn't working properly. All of the deck furniture was way past its expiration date. My daughter actually found a dead cockroach. There was some solace in that it was dead and not alive. All of this costing thousands of dollars. Poor service from Bluewater and a property that shouldn't be on the market. I've rented from Bluewater before but things have changed. Never again. read more

1 Diamond Girl (28OCT24-05OCT24) What I sent to Bluewater Vacation Rentals: "We spent the week at 1 Diamond Girl in Emerald Isle 28SEP-05OCT 2024. Our check in code never worked nor did the alternate code we were given, check in was not seem less. We did call the Bluewater office to inform them the door did not look upon check out, today 10/05/24 @ 8:44 am. We were told to not worry about it as it appeared the system was off line. We experienced a Rodent/Rat problem all week in which your maintenance and a wild life contractor tried to abate. We had to live out of coolers in the kitchen and had to clean up rodent droppings EVERYDAY. Daily we sanitized the living areas and kitchen. See attached pictures, they were rats not mice." (Could not upload pictures - although no one wants to see dead rats in traps). "Absolutely amazing that we contacted Blue Water throughout our stay regarding the issues we had - from Rats/Rodents to Windows not Closing to a pool that HAS a massive leak let alone a hot tub that was NOT maintained. We gave Blue Water a chance but we will be returning to Emerald Isle Realty for our future visits (which are annually). I truly hope that the owner of 1 Diamond Girl and Blue Water work out the issues (RATs/and others) with that property - my wife and I rent a beach house every year in Emerald Isle and I can say we are embarrassed - our guest who attended this year's week on the beach deserved better." Sunshine estates at Pine Knoll Shores NC is not worth the cost. Photos look good but house is poorly maintained and dirty. floors and decks need cleaning, feet are dirty from going barefoot. Piles of old rusty beach floats, chairs lay around piled up like trash piles. Outside trash is scattered and weeds are more likely than landscaping. Have stayed here twice before and the house and grounds have been left unattended and run down. inside and out repairs and cleaning needs to be performed. will not stay again and Bluewater Realty can't be trusted to supply a rental that is acceptable. read more

I didn't even get to go on my vacation due to unforeseen circumstances, but this review is about the absolutely terrible customer service. I was set to go on vacation this past weekend, but then my car broke down and I couldn't get it fixed before the check-in date. The part that is needed can only be replaced at a dealership and if you haven't heard, there's a nationwide outage for the software dealerships use due to a cyber attack. The dealership told me they'd get me in as soon as they could, but it likely wouldn't be until sometime this week. I tried to get a rental car, but they're sold out everywhere I checked. By Friday afternoon, I cried uncle and canceled my trip. Or so I thought... First, I called to see if I could move my reservation to later in July and a very kind woman, the only helpful person I spoke to at this place, said she would check with management and call me back. In the meantime, I texted the reservation number to cancel and I received a response directing me to email a specific address, which I did on Friday. When the woman called back, she told me that management wouldn't allow me to move my reservation, which I expected, so I thanked the woman and told her there was no way for me to get down there. I confirmed that I had emailed the rental accounting email my cancelation and she suggested I file a claim with travel insurance, which I have. I never received a cancellation email or any verification, but I assumed since I had called, texted, AND emailed that someone there had made a note in my file saying I wasn't coming. Except that Sunday morning, I get a voicemail asking why I didn't pick up the key packet. Then this morning, I received both an email and a voicemail asking what was going on and to please call them back. Because apparently the text, email, and phone call I already completed were not sufficient. So, I called back, very aggravated at this point because it should not be this hard to cancel a trip. Does anyone in this office speak to anyone else? Finally, I received a cancellation email this morning and I'm hoping this is the last time I ever have to speak to anyone from this incompetent place. I can't speak to the state of the rental since I never made it, but based on other reviews, I feel like I dodged a (rather expensive) bullet in not being able to go on this trip. If you're considering this place, I'd strongly recommend you don't and book a hotel instead. read more

We found that the elevator didn't go to the top floor of the house and we had several issues with it including a person getting stuck once in the elevator. The top deck was warped which was a trip hazard and there were rusty nails and popped nail heads that could cut your feet. The pool lost water and had to be refilled almost every day causing the heater to have problems keeping the water temperature where it was set. We picked up around a dozen dead cockroaches, the filtered water faucet handle was broken and the filter missing, the wine cooler didn't work, a TV was on a stand in the middle of the living room because the one on the wall didn't work, the built in microwave was replaced with a unit that was difficult to use, the outdoor grill only had three of the four burners working, there was bird mess all over the furniture on the living room deck and we found weeds growing on the pool deck. To be fair, when we contacted Bluewater maintenance, they were very responsive and came out promptly to address the problems. They were not able to rectify everything. For example, we declined having them spray insecticide while we were there because we had several people who were sensitive to chemicals. And they couldn't repair the deck while we were there. Plus the bird nest and weeds were protected so they couldn't do anything about that. We have since resolved our issues with Bluewater and they have put a maintenance team in the unit to make repairs for next season. read more

Arriving to the office of Bluewater we were greeted by a helpful staff member and given an organized packet of information for our unit. The grounds of the unit were beautiful established trees and green area. The path to the beach was in great condition leading to a nice new pier with showers. When we opened the door to our unit we were hit with a strong musty smell. We then began making the beds. It quickly became obvious the unit had not been cleaned, deep cleaned, in a very long time. It wasn't that things were dated it is they were not clean. Dust, hair, dead skin cells, sand were under beds, around furniture and on the furniture. After we made coffee we removed the filter caddy and found a roach. We then dumped out the coffee and found them in the craft and coffee maker! The toaster as well. There were 3 bar stools 2 of which were broken. We sent pictures to Bluewater and asked to be moved to another unite. Our request was denied and we have YET to hear from anyone. Disgusting. I will not rent or recommend Bluewater. read more

We called about a maintenance issue (broken bed frame) yesterday that we had notified them about in February 2020 when we toured the home. Customer service did not call us back. We had to call them again today and they had no plan to fix it and no timeframe for it to be corrected. They also didn't pick up our trash as they were supposed to do. We have a big family staying in this gorgeous, expensive house right on the beach (Chateau of the Isle). An entire bedroom is unusable. This is completely unacceptable. ETA They purchased and had delivered a new bed frame on Wednesday. We had a broken bed for 3 of 4 nights. read more

Rented a vacation rental through Bluewaternc.com. Arrived to a disgusting, filthy rental, called the Irish cottage. There IS still water leaking from the air conditioning through the ceiling in the only full bathroom for the unit. Was advertised as fenced in and the agent told me that it's perfect for my pups - there are holes in the fence and there are areas with no fencing at all. Was walking the deck and my foot went through rotten board, the dishwasher had paper towels and food in the bottom, extremely filthy. All the windows were found unlocked unbeknownst to me after the fist night, and there was dog hair all over the furniture. I Contacted the office and only after having a fit did they send a cleaning crew out here who was appalled at how filthy the rental was. The general manager Amanda has done nothing to fix anything, and I've had to call every day to find out what's going to be done for the dripping ceiling/AC. I arrived on Monday and it is now Thursday, nothings changed. I've seen their canned response from their customer service on many other poor reviews and they are not honest- buyer beware. This rental this has been the most horrible experience and I would never recommend Bluewater NC In Emerald Isle for anything. Find another agency. There are plenty to choose from, I would only consider this a last resort. read more

The property of Sandy Oaks in Salter Path on Emerald Isle, North Carolina is managed by Bluewater Realty. This rental was VERY DIRTY inside and out when we arrived there on Sunday, June 19, 2022. The property has been neglected by the owner and not service properly by the Bluewater team for some time. This location was descripted as a lovely home with gorgeous decor - it was a dirty, dingy house with dirty grounds, a broken fence, 2 rotting decks, filthy, bug filled windows and dirty dishes in the cabinets. There are many more items I could mention, but I think you get the idea that this property had been misrepresented by Bluewater Realty. In 16+ years of going to this island for vacation, I have never had a problem with my rental until this year; but I have never used this company before either. They did send a cleaning lady over on her day off to vacuum and mop the dirty floors and reclean the bathroom shower's walls and they gave me a $37 refund for not having made the beds as requested - but that was only after I had to call twice to get linens and clean pillows that were not stained or torn. The only positive thing that I can say is that the air conditioner in the house did work well. I will not use Bluewater Reality Rentals again in the future. read more

Although we tried our best to enjoy our vacation, it was very difficult. There were many Roaches during our entire stay beginning on Day Numero Uno! There were MAGGOTS crawling inside and all over both Garbage Cans and the Recycling Bin!!!! I was not about to touch those things as I had made that mistake already trying to toss out trash, from our vehicle, that we accumulated during the drive, and Maggots crawled onto my hand ... once was enough! Luckily, we made friends with another family on the beach that lives just down the street, and they allowed us to use theirs : ) The Bed squeaked loudly all night which made it impossible to get a decent night's sleep, even with the extremely loud, high powered fans we purchased to drown out the unbearable noise! We had walked through to check the other three beds, but they all squeaked just as loud as the last one did. Some of the furniture was inoperable, with dresser drawers that would not open. The inside of the home was not cleaned thoroughly either. There was BLOOD on a wall, and inside a door frame and on the door!!!! So UNSANITARY! The tub and shower were a bit dirty, hair and debris had been swept underneath the beds and furniture; which flew all over the place when the door was open and the wind blew in. What fun that was to clean up! There were food particles on the dishes and silverware in the cabinets as well as crumbs inside the cabinets and drawers. Finally, the blankets were filthy and completely COVERED in dog hair! It got all over us after we arrived home, were freshly showered, and attempting to cuddle on the sofa; it stuck to the after sun lotion we had on... so of course, another shower was in order, frustrating! These blankets were in bags, like the ones the fresh towels come in, to give the impression they were clean. We did end up washing all of the blankets for the next guests, yet even more vacation Fun! I do not understand why we were denied a late check out when the place isn't being "Covid Cleaned" to begin with, but especially when we were already told we could have a late check out BEFORE they took our payment!! (Greed.?) At the time we asked, we informed them we were only utilizing one bedroom and one bathroom of the Four Bedroom, Three Bath home; which also had a basement, and they said that it would not be a problem as they were not going to need to clean the whole house. I asked for an updated contract with the correct check out time, but never received it so contacted them again a couple of days before our trip, and it was only then we were notified that we could not have the extra time we were falsely promised in order to gain our business! They could have accommodated us, but chose not to. They said "oh, we don't know when the cleaning team will arrive, morning or afternoon" UNACCEPTABLE! They can find out or schedule them accordingly, since we had been given approval, and especially so when this is THEIR Own Cleaning Crew, not a Company they are hiring. Even then you can schedule for the correct time. So, all things considered, this was extremely wrong, highly Dishonest, and I feel as though they are VERY UNTRUSTWORTHY!!!! We will rent from a different company when we come back for our end of summer vacation, we visit the beach twice a year. read more

The house fit our needs and very close to the beach. We had issue with the trash not being emptied from the outdoor can before we arrived. Throughout the week we had seen large roaches which they said are water bugs.. still roaches. They said they spray but that doesn't fix the issue with families staying. We have rented multiple times from them over the last 15 years! Most recently the Colony at the beach unit #101 Attractive unit, nicely furnished. The long counter is great for kids lunches and schooling. Nicely outfitted with plenty of kitchen items. However, the back deck is pretty, but if it rains not only does outside rain hit you, so does all the water from above which drips down and soaks everything. The views are of foliage and dumpster with noise from people dumping trash. Sadly; this unit is situated under another and the noise can be deafening! The ceilings do not meet sound baffling standards, we are not picky,and some of us are hard of hearing and it was still disruptive our whole stay. So bad we almost called the police on multiple nights because of noise at 1:30, 3 am 4 am and onward. While smoking is prohibited, if the upper guests do so on the deck it sneaks into your unit and soaks into any item drying on the deck area. If your a city person who likes 24/7 noise you may appreciate this unit. The nose was so bad and the mood so threatening my sister left early on her only vacation in over 18-months. Bluewater staff was indifferent and dismissive. Repeated calls (5 in all) were ignored and response call came literally as I was pulling in to check out of the unit. Customer relations person was rude and kept glancing impatiently during my discussion of concerns. I have had many years of pleasant rental interactions previously, but this was a real mess and my money can be spent anywhere and so should yours. read more

I have rented from Blue Water for over ten years with my family. This year my fiancé and I got our ever first beach front home. It was Anniversary Waltz East. We were so excited to get there. When we pulled up the front of the house looked like it was out of a night mare. The weeds were out of control the drive way dirty. When we started walking up to our door underneath the house had green algae all over it. Not just a small spot but it was the entire siding. And the windows were dirty. We walked inside to find a house that was completely different then the pictures displayed. It had pictures crooked, couch with stains the front blind was broken. There was a sheet in the bathroom that anyone can see through when you are going to the bathroom. During the middle of the day the AC wouldn't work it would be 80 degrees in our house. This was disappointing. Even the lock off the deck wouldn't latch properly. The beds were aweful. The house was infested with bugs the company didn't call us until that Friday to see what they could do. But there was no point of talking to them then. We had contacted them Saturday once we arrived and no one got back to us until Monday afternoon. I wouldn't rent with the company again or ever recommend the house we rented. The house was tacky and hopefully no one gets conned into renting that aweful house. We got a partial refund but I wouldn't call it enough to be satisfied with our unhappy stay. read more

We've rented various properties on Emerald Isle over the years via this management company. Typically, the property is decent and the issues we've had have been minor hiccups that were promptly resolved. It's also important to note that we're talking about several-thousand dollar weekly rentals (not some run-down shack on the beach). The expectation for these properties is high. This year, things have changed. The house we're renting wasn't one we've used before, but it had a high rating on the Bluewater site. When we arrived, we realized that the home hadn't been updated with the digital locks, so we had to go to Bluewater to pickup keys. Not a huge deal, but a minor inconvenience that would've been a huge hassle if we'd been here at peak season (other reviews mention the 50+ car backup near their office). The house itself, though, smelled like wet dog. We figured out it was the couch and we called Bluewater to handle. They came a little while later with baby powder and a vacuum. They sprinkled the powder and immediately sucked it up. No real change to the smell... so we've been using one of the extra sheet sets to cover the couch to make it usable. The floors were incredibly dirty, too... we bought a swiffer and wet-mopped the laminate. Ugh. Totally disgusting. Pulled up a bunch of dog hair bunnies, too. We're still here and I don't like walking around with bare feet. When Bluewater came by, they saw some additional hair bunnies and commented on them... but didn't even vacuum them up. Then the upper level AC went out. It took them 12 hours to get someone to actually fix the unit, but they DID repair it and even brought a window unit for a temporary fix. But then we went to use the advertised gas grill to cook dinner. Uh, nope. Empty gas tank. Calling Bluewater and they tell us that we'd have to provide the gas. For a property advertised with a gas grill, you'd think it would be included. So calling Bluewater again. This time, I ask for a manager. I'm told they have to escalate. I don't get a call back. I wait until noon the next day and call again. They tell me that they'd have to call me back. I'm still waiting on a return call. Frankly, I get that some of this is the property itself and that Bluewater shouldn't be 100% responsible for this. For decades I have vacationed up and down the North Carolina coast. The rentals were for the most part great. My rental from Bluewater this year was my worst experience. Bluewater maintains that they fixed my concerns in a timely manner. They did repair or replace four things, cleaned the duplex, fixed an uneven deck, unclogged a shower drain and replaced an unusable grill. Several other concerns were pointed out to their maintenance and cleaning people. These concerns included a vent dripping water into the kitchen, an outdoor shower that was unusable and a closet door that would not close. Additionally the general lack of cleanliness was noted by a cleaner who indicated that she would recommend a deep clean. This property was not as advertised. Supposedly it was freshly painted, had new doors and new furniture. Paint was peeling and ceilings cracker. The front door was rusted and difficult to close. There was mold on one bedroom wall and mold in the bathroom downstairs. My guest cleaned the windows. The list goes on. They, the rental company did fix a few things but I doubt if anyone other than maintenance has seen this unit. I requested that the customer rep come to the unit to see the situation and was informed that they could not due to safety reasons. What about the safety of the cleaning and maintenance staff? We met with the rep in her office. We were there for two weeks and the rental was thousands of dollars. The rental property was Seas the day West. read more

In June 2021, we paid for a week at a third-row house (102 Nina Street) that has very few amenities - no wifi, no premium cable channels, etc. What it does have is a lovely hot tub in a wooded setting. When we arrived, our son immediately changed into his suit, right as I saw a handwritten note from the owner saying we were not to use the broken hot tub. The hot tub was never fixed through our stay. Seeking a partial refund, I called several times and even went by the Bluewater office during our vacation. I emailed when I got home. They are unwilling to give us any refund whatsoever. It's very sad for our family as we have been renting that same house since 2008. We won't be renting it again, nor will we be renting anything from Bluewater. read more

Extremely rude staff would advise looking elsewhere. Their method of checking in is by far one of the most disorganized things I have experienced. And to make matters worse the staff isn't helpful and couldn't be bothered to check people in 5 minutes before 3 o'clock. Our family received information that the house was ready around noon the day of check in and when we went to get keys at 2:45pm we were greeted with "we don't hand out keys until 3 you have to get in your car and get in line." Politely told them we had been contacted that the house was ready. "We didn't authorize any early check ins today, you have to get in line like everyone else. ". The "line" they speak of is 50 or so cars blocking traffic attempting to drive through their parking lot. What I find so ridiculous is that this could be eliminated by doing what every other innkeeper through out time does, allow you access to the room / house if it is clean. Guarantee it ready by 3, but if it ready before that then have at it. Again I would stay away if there are other options and if you are a home owner looking for a property manager know that the way they handle your potential customers means that many won't be coming back. read more

Our family arrived Saturday afternoon at Shell Seekers on Emerald Isle for a long awaited family reunion. While the large waterfront home initially looked inviting, we soon saw signs that the property was not being well maintained. The teenagers quickly ascertained that the internet was not working. We found a watermelon rind and half smoked cigar on the back porch. The grill was filthy with leftover bits of food from earlier occupants. The lower level bathroom drains were extremely slow to drain. The pool handrails were very loose and several people slipped entering the pool. The toaster was broken. The coffee pot leaked all over the counter. Several screen doors were off their tracks. Neither of the two dishwashers in the main kitchen was operable. Even worse was the inability of Bluewater Vacation Rental to efficiently resolve these issues. Bluewater was very difficult to reach. We spent lengthy periods on the phone listening to computer options, leaving voice mails and waiting for call backs. When we did get to speak with Bluewater representatives they were polite, but not always able to resolve issues. We first notified Bluewater of the dishwasher issue on Sunday. On Monday Bluewater maintenance removed one of the dishwashers which we found melted; apparently it had been installed incorrectly two weeks earlier. They did not fix the other dishwasher. On Tuesday Bluewater Maintenance brought in a new dishwasher, but could not install it because they did not have the correct parts. They pumped the water out of the other dishwasher, but did not repair it. On Wednesday Bluewater Maintenance connected the new dishwasher; however it fell forward when we opened it because the hold in screws had not been installed. On Thursday Bluewater maintenance finally got the new dishwasher operable. The other dishwasher was never repaired. The bottom line was we had maintenance people in our kitchen for four days and were rewarded with one full day of the week with an operable dishwasher in the main kitchen. The bathroom drains were worked on and they drained better. The toaster was replaced. The grill was cleaned, but never did light without a huge hassle. It is very rusty and in need of replacement. We fixed two of the screen doors. A Bluewater representative tried to fix the third screen door but ended up tossing it off the second floor porch. It turned out the Wi-Fi username and password had been changed, but we not notified until Wednesday. The pool handrails were tightened, but almost immediately became loose again. This is a safety issue needs prompt attention! Our conclusion is that we will not book this house in the future nor can we recommend it to anyone else. Although we have had good experiences with Bluewater Vacation Rentals in the past, we will not rent with them in the future. read more

I rented properties from them for 2 months. They have a few employees that are helpful. But overall they are a difficult group to deal with. Keyless entree doors had all kind of issues. They best customer service I received was from the person that answered the phone at midnight because we couldn't get in. If you don't mind them doing a home inspection 1-2 times a week, have at it. We had a terrible experience last summer and I would never rent from this company again. Office staff was totally unhelpful, would not return calls about a problem with the unit. We drove to the office and no one would help us. Finally we talked to condo owners at our building, got contact info for the management company, and got a resolution which ended up costing us money. The house we rented was not ready to be used, however Blue Water did send out maintenance men right away and all issues were taken care, though it did take a few days for the fridge and AC to be repaired. and they did compensate us for our inconvenience, so I would give Blue water a second chance. The house we rented was right on the beach and had a covered deck which made a great place for fun in the sun or relax in the shade. read more

I stayed at the Holiday House recently and here is my review.....Don't let the pictures nor the description fool you! First off the house has two AC units and it's added on to so they don't keep up with the house at all! The units will only get down to 77 degrees!We had to go and buy fans just to sleep comfortably! Secondly the ice machine/water dispenser in the main fridge doesn't work at all and the staff knew that it didn't but failed to mention that in the main description! The house is big but very chopped up. The house is advertised as ocean side but it's actually all the way up the street from the beach, you can walk but it's a good trek! I called the staff at the office and they said that they can bring ice to the house but that takes away from the convenience of having it in our "fully-equipped kitchen" I voiced my concerns to the office staff and they brushed me off like a small child and said that there was nothing that they could do. Not very happy and we will definitely not be renting through this company again! read more

BEWARE!!!!! DO NOT rent from this company and do not rent the White Gables Cottage property in Emerald Isle. Bluewater has EXTREMELY shady business practices. The property is NOT as pictured! When we arrived, the furniture was dirty, the house smelled of dog and old urine. There was a blanket under the cabinet that smelled like someone let their dog sleep on it. My family has owned several dogs since I was young and our home has NEVER smelled like dog. There was a red stain on one of the pillows in the bedroom upstairs and it appeared to be blood. There was a stain on one of the pillows as well. The comforters were old and one of the, had hair on it. There was a rug in one of the bathrooms that was soaked in water and so it made the bathroom smell like mildew. I would give both the rental company and the property zero stars if I could. My friend that was to accompany me on the trip had a death in the family prior to the trip and she emailed them but of course the money hungry owners would not release her from the agreement. I am telling you, do not rent from this company nor the white gables cottage. read more
