The programming and coaching at Waukee is top-notch. Coaches take time to get to know the members and coach them on proper technique and member's goals. The programming is constantly varied, challenging, and can always be scaled to an individual's fitness level. The community at Waukee is what sets this box apart from others. I've visited several boxes, and while I have enjoyed every single community, this one is a group of real people who Crossfit. Every member is friendly, welcoming of new faces, and genuinely wants to get to know and help others. I used to be intimidated by partner WODs (workout of the day in CF speak), because I'm not the best athlete, and there hasn't been a single time at Waukee that I haven't been asked to be someone's partner almost immediately. I also have visited all of the various class times, and have felt welcome in each class. Speaking of class times, this box offers a variety of class options throughout the day, leaving lots of options and no excuse for not making it to a workout. Membership rates are very reasonable [for Crossfit]. Crossfit Waukee is associated with Crossfit Des Moines and Crossfit North Ankeny and also offers Acceleration Iowa for youth sports training. He canceled in December 2024 and several months still were taking money out of my account for his membership which should have been done end of year. My son canceled it 3 times on line and said membership canceled everytime. They said he never filled out the form. Can't cancel in person had to do it online. They gave me one month refund should had three according to an email. So if you are planning on joining be aware canceling isn't easy. Son liked the gym otherwise.

I get the appeal of some of that, but for me, I just need a decent place with good equipment and I'll handle the rest. In general, people are there to work out and work out hard. Decent equipment and love their music selections. Very high energy. This gym is powerlifting-friendly and has its own area for chalk. It's nice to see a place that not only allows deadlifts, but has a platform and doesn't blink at chalk-use. Also, I love the mural on one of the main walls painted by a local artist. Very nice work. If I lived in DM, I would get a membership here.

Staff made recommendations for my first workout. Staff assisted me in renting the yoga mat and towel. Picked yoga for the first work out. Others working out were very encouraging in the common areas. Loved it was a private workout and you could sweat in a private area. There is also an area with weights and bands for a workout without the heat. Spinning and rowing are also available to use in the saunas. Team reviewed the safety features for members who work out when they are not there. Also reviewed program and fees as well as the specials they were running. Couple of notes of areas of opportunity: -hard to watch the instructor while in poses. Difficult when you are new to the moves. With experience and time would get a lot easier -website doesn't describe well that it is 24/7 when you are a member. This was great to learn once I arrived that it has very flexible times to attend. Looking for a new way to step up your workout, this would be a perfect switch to. Overall great experience and a sweaty and energizing workout. Absolutely recommend.

The owners started with one gym (this location) and have expanded to several more over the years, yet they remain involved in all locations. All of the coaches are great but I want to give a shout out to Anson Fisk! As luck would have it, I end up in his sessions more often than with other coaches. Anson is very enthusiastic and motivating but more importantly, he sees each person individually and works to correct form when needed. As for community, Krave partners with a local non profit each season (Special Olympics, ARL, etc.) and members are encouraged to participate in an event supporting each non-profit. There are also challenges (just completed a six-week one) and occasionally a social event. To me, Krave is much more than just a gym!

I actually went to the North Ames location to sign on with the manager there, she was much more approachable and helpful, I'd recommend signing up with her and not this South Ames guy, there's just something off with this guy. And the showers would have the same dirt from a week prior, same with the sauna. I recently had to cancel my membership and he said maybe ten words in all to me and did not care about the cancellation. From my previous experiences with gyms I've never dealt with such a manager. All are usually very kind and helpful and want to know how they can improve the gym and how my experience was. Not sure I'll be back. The rest of the employees there are wonderful however!

The gym has two floors; most of the weights that I enjoyed using is on the first floor, while the second floor has more of the cardio type equipment, although there is an area where there is a cross-trainer and some light weights. They have several squat/deadlift platforms, so you know this gym is legit. Plenty of free weights, a few bench presses, and weight machines as well. I love the color theme here. It's probably not a big deal to most people, but it reminds me of the Marvel Ironman-red color, and I'm a fan. Locker rooms is located on the first floor, near the check-in, and everything appears clean and fresh. On the weight area, there are a couple of private bathrooms near the weight machines, so lift some weights, pop a squat, as needed, and then do some squats with no worry of anything popping out.
