It was such a comfortable place to work while visiting family out of town. There is childcare for our toddler as well!!! Love this place.

This place is amazing. I love the space itself for professional reasons but nothing beats their quality on site daycare!

Raleigh Iron Works is a mixed use development just outside downtown Raleigh. There are restaurants,…read moreshops, offices, a yoga studio, gym and apartments. Parking is available in several lots and there is also a parking garage. I hadn't been to RIW since it first opened and the parking and offerings have expanded with plans to keep expanding on the 19 acres with one more phase. The Peden Steel Company once operated on the property. I liked how remnants of that steel were used throughout the development as the property was redeveloped. The Bow Truss Building produced munition during World War I. Barges were produced during World War II. The original steel was used for the buildings; art; benches; planters; and monuments. The courtyard of the Double Gable Building shows the exposed steel. This is a nice area to sit outside and has a fireplace for when the temperature cools. Native plants were used for the landscaping, and a full-time horticulturist was hired. The native shrubs and perennials provide food for pollinators, and native plants need less water. I could tell that a lot of thought went into the selections for landscaping. There are murals on the property too, one near the parking garage, another outside of the parking garage that you can't miss driving by and another above the pool. On the last Saturday morning of the month, a history and art tour of Raleigh Iron Works is offered, where you can learn more about RIW.

It's one open room that could feel a bit warehouse-y, except they've added these great paper lanterns and twinkle lights to the rafters. Just that little touch really adds so much to the space. There are multi-stall bathrooms too. Windows don't have built-in blinds/curtains, which might cause a sun glare issue for daytime events.

If you raise your head and look up, you can see something always hanging from the roof. The building is definitely spacious, it's almost the size of a small school gymnasium; and like a school gymnasium, sometimes there are issues with the central air conditioning. It can get to an unbearable state when you have over 70 people in here but the vents were pumping out heating air. I digress. One side of the building has been dedicated to a fitness center**; sometimes over the dance music I can still hear the clanking of free weights and barbells and other equipments. Oh yea, the bathroom is a bit spartan and old-timey. **Speaking of which, I think I vaguely saw a group class doing cross-training. Perhaps I should join them right after the dance class to keep up the metabolism burning.
