So here's the deal. In the 1hr class, you'll be under his watchful eye as he guides you through some of the basics. You'll first pick a color scheme to apply to one of four solids. Then you'll enter the belly of the beast, where Meticulous Mike will serve as art director, stage manager and Socratic facilitator. (It will behoove you to know that that last one when you visit the studio.) Like many of the finer things in life, it's the intersection of art and science. He will tease out what you already know and fill in what you don't. Then he'll demo ALL of the steps before execution. This thorough rehearsal is a critical step, as we must consider elements like tools, body position, working time, gravity, rotation, temperature, something called a LEHR, and a kiln-like contraption that screams hot at a spicy 2400ºF. And if you go with a buddy, that adds the extra layer of deciding who needs to stand where and at what time to capture some photos. Lots to think about - but fret not, for you're in good hands. Once the demo is done, it's time for the real thing. You can expect a good amount of hands-on, although Michael will do some of the particularly technical bits himself (probably for the better - hot glass is finicky, even more so in a neophyte's grubby little mitts). Once the process is done, you've got a neat piece that you can bring home to put on display. How cool! ("No - it's /hot/," Michael will quickly interject.) ** DISCLAIMER ** the cooling process takes about a day. If you're visiting, do NOT schedule Little River on your last day. You'll need to return the following day to collect your handiwork. ** ADDENDUM ** Having just read RM's and JG's scathing 2O24 reviews - aight, sure, the Mike Aura definitely gives has an edgy, punchy, perfectionist flavor if you will. This is a studio that centers community, and it shows. This is a studio that centers joy, and one feels it. Let's start first with yoga. For at its heart, Blossom is a yoga studio. Set in a gorgeous brick building near the Winooski river in downtown Montpelier, the main yoga studio is infused with light, pulsating with positive vibrations, and enveloped with warmth from the warm wood floors to the translucent window curtains. It is spacious and grounding. There are plenty of mats, blankets, and yoga props to use, a changing space with clothing to borrow, a lending library, and easy online booking. Blossom is committed to ensuring that its classes are accessible; as such, sliding scale prices for classes and passes are offered, they offer a discount to seniors, teachers, and farmers, and no one is turned away. Visitors and new clients can pay only $35 for two weeks of unlimited drop-in classes. The yoga teachers are world-class, and the studio offers an array of classes, from vigorous ashtanga to restorative yoga. Their monthly Friday night restorative yoga + massages class is especially extraordinary and nurturing. I've had classes with Joanie, Anjali, Hope, and Devon. They each offer something different and special. Again, we would be lucky in a town of Montpelier's size to have access to just one of these talented and gifted teachers. To have all of them in one place is something I do not take for granted. We are so fortunate indeed. The gifted practioners at Blossom are transformational in their teachings and massage. Many of these teachers are also skilled bodywork practioners. The treatment rooms at Blossom echo the solid bones of the yoga studio - you'll be enveloped by warmth, light, soft textures, greenery, and peace. The menu of treatments is rich with the kind of services one would find at a much bigger wellness center. I've received at least half a dozen massages from Blossom, and I am left astounded every time by the body of knowledge and compassionate skill every practioner brings to their work. The generosity of the owner and practioners, who give back to their community in so many ways, ensures that the flow of karma is strong, committed, authentic, and joyful. Blossom Wellness Center is a treaure box to discover. I've been to many studios in cities and places much bigger than Montpelier, and Blossom is unmatched. I am so very grateful to be a part of this community, and can't recommend them highly enough for locals and visitors. ~~Let go so that you can receive ~~
