I can't say enough good things about my experience with the shop and Tony. He took care of my needs and was professional and kind throughout the entire process. That's the kind of customer service that brings me back to a business and I'll certainly bring any work I need to them. The work is top notch and it's clear they take pride in everything they do. I was a good friend of Tony's at the time and remember seeing Corine's foam seats in his living room which he was to cover with new vinyl. He had the foam seats for months eventually sending them to another contractor when he initially told me he was going to re-pollster them. My impression was poor motivation. I really do want to avert anyone from an awful experience like four more other people I know. The "doctor" is a con-artists. Paid for a front clip for my 2015 Mazda 3. Tony took the money and never delivered it. It was ordered around June 3023 and it is now February 2024. Tony never gives me a direct answer when I ask which body shop is the front clip is being painted at. All this is documented with text messages and audio recordings. The boat had to be recovered from the NB Marina late at night because it was sinking, the out-drive boot was improperly installed. I couldn't use my boat all summer 2023 because he improperly wired the voltage regulator and it caught on fire, I believe he did this deliberately. He blamed his apprentice when the master mechanic should inspect all of the apprentices work. How cheap! We never used speaker wire as Tony claimed, in fact we never touched the voltage regulator. This was the first maiden trip after the new motor was installed by Tony. Why would we jimmy the electrical system which we know nothing about?? and we just wanted to get out on the water. The newly installed motor bogged at half throttle the first time I drove it. The motor caught fire after only running 15 mins and it was a three hour paddle back to the marina. "The doctor" reassured me the used motor had 175lbs compression across all four cylinders. An independent inspection showed 170 lbs in the first, 60lbs in the second and antifreeze in the third cylinder...a bad head gasket. The motor will be sent for scrap. Tony told me he would upgrade the motor to a high output coil and electronic points. He told me he did all this/ he didn't. He told me he would extend the dog house/ he didn't. The magneto on the front of the motor now rubs on the dog house, a potential fire issue. A number of ribs in the aft of the boat were left loose, when I brought this to his attention Tony drove a screw through the top aluminum instead of using proper brackets below the deck. My jet boat that Tony winterized now has a cracked the block. He wants me to believe that the crack was already there when I drove it all summer the year before. Also, he does not honour his work or fix his mistakes instead he attacks his customers belligerently. Yells and berates his employees, high employee turnover. I have 2 court cases against Tony Balla and a coming 3rd A former apprentice has a court case against Tony A former secretary has a Labour Board complaint against The Boat Doctor. When Tony and his wife left the house he rented from me, which he told many people that he owned it, upon leaving he took piddly items such as coat racks, toilet paper dispensers, screwed to wall soap dish, towel rack and removed plug and light switches covers. I sent my boat to have the seats recovered in October. They were to be ready buy November 1st. Due to not meeting our deadline our boat was winterized and store at their expense. My seats were wet as Fall was wetter than usual. We were told new plywood and foam were required. 2 seats had new plywood, regular foam was used one one seat along with the old foam. The job was less than amateur! I received my boat back June 6th. My console and three seats were not completed. No silk film, no anchor to meld the curved seats together. Lie after lie! Excuse after excuse! Billed me for $5818 for materials only after an agreed price to complete the job. Materials were $517.70 purchased from JT'S out of Barrie. Another lie, we were told they don't sell to the public. Now being accused of tampering with the seats. Pictures to prove the less than professional job prior to even getting it back, "8 months" later! The backs were farmed out which is more than obvious! We were told a gal in Callander did them. Another lie I called everywhere and found out Lavigne did them. Lavigne advised that no wood nor new foam was installed. Be aware and do your homework! Wish I had of! read more
