Decided to make a reservation the night before since I knew this was a popular spot. Otherwise, we would have eaten at the more casual cafe but I was glad we chose the main restaurant. We were staying in the hotel and it was very convenient. The front desk checked if we needed a reservation when we arrived. This was my favorite meal of the trip. I decided to get the scallop black pudding appetizer with the langoustine main. The scallop app was phenomenal, and the garlic butter langoustine were excellent. The langoustine meat was delicate - tails were sliced open and I took awhile to crack open the claws to get most of the meat out. The elderflower cocktail was refreshing. I had been debating about having langoustine and scallop dishes for app or main. The waitress said the langoustine app has 3, main has 6. Scallop app and main both have 3 scallops, but main has fish also. Great service overall. The restaurant was full and the larger parties really take their time here. The light is dim and everything was served elegantly. My vegetarian friend really enjoyed her bruschetta nibble and eggplant pasta. I would have ordered the cherry bakewell tart, but they were doing a different dessert. read more

Had a lovely dinner here tonight! They have a 2 course or 3 course market menu, or you can mix and match across the full menu (special and market). I went with the 2 course - mussels to start and the white fish of the day (haddock). Unfortunately, they didn't have oysters or I would have gotten those too! The 2 course was more than enough food for 1 person, so I'm pleasantly full even though I didn't finish my plates. Service was attentive. Just make sure to book a resy as early as you can! read more

Not sure yet. We are waiting on a table on a Sunday in Stornoway. They put us in the bar and the drinks and drink menu is great. Whiskey wine, beer, coffee. But short staffed so service though good in the bar it is a little slow. The waitresses were super nice So.... Drinks great 5 star Service 5 star. Super nice and worked through the short staff. Food was good. 4 star. The mussels were good but not sure how clean. Broth bread and quality good. Main was a pork belly that wasn't bad. Seemed a bit over cooked and maybe a little different cut than I'm used to in the states. The mash and cabbage were really good. Ordered some biscoff Sunday for dessert. Was very tasty. read more

I have to admit that I was prepared to not enjoy this place because of the réception and exterior appearance, but it proved me oh, so wrong! The dining room and bar is a bit like a Scottish and French kitchen combined. They have an extensive wine and beverage list for starters. Their menu is not that extensive but it is lovely.You can get a starter and a main dish for 22 pounds. Or you can get a main dish and a dessert for 22 pounds.There are other alternatives available like steak and what not. My husband and I went with the 22 pound 2 course meal. We got the biscoff dessert afterwards and shared. The pork belly was succulent and tender, Cabbage was delicious and the potatoes were just right. It was served with an au jus and an apple compote. Lovely! The dessert was awesome! Plenty to share and a caramel cookie delight! The service was fantastic.There's a young woman here that was very bubbly and sweet and took care of us very well. You would do well to pop in for a beverage or bite. I'm so glad we did! Now, off to the Lewis castle! read more

Make a reservation and get in here. The staff are super hard working and good at what they do. And the food is top notch! We enjoyed everything we ordered. The starter Bombay Aloo Bakta had a great flavor profile - wonderful blend of spicy with the peanut and coconut. And the ravioli is surprisingly authentic given the location. The steak is good but it's a sirloin cut and comes with a gravy. So make your own conclusions if you're into steak. But it was cooked as specified and flavorful. We enjoyed the dessert and definitely recommend giving this place a go. read more

This was our favorite restaurant in Stornoway and we had dinner there twice. The Botanist Gin cocktail was delicious and the whiskey selection was large and excellent. The food was perfect too. We loved the local scallops, as well as the steaks and venison (served with some of the best blood pudding we have ever had). I had the poached pear dessert and it was perfect. Service was great, and we really loved eating there. It's fairly large and the first time we did not have or need reservations. The second time we made reservations and were glad we did because it filled up fast. read more

Probably THE Best restaurant in Stornoway, had both a wonderful lunch of mussels and dinner of langoustines that was perfect. Deserts are great. And prices very reasonable. Being from Virginia, we know good seafood and this was as good as any in all of Scotland. read more

Tried this Restaurant out while on holiday in Lewis, its a themed nautical restaurant hence the name 'Boatshed' its within the Royal Hotel which also has HS1 Cafe Bistro. Possibly one of the best meals we have had, lots of local fish & meat try out the Scallops & Langoustines wow! Service was great, young and friendly staff. I can say its not cheap but forthe portions and quality you get its well worth the money. read more

Excellent dinner. We had ravioli and venison. The venison was like a fine steak with a delicious berry sauce. Ambiance very nice and a very good wine list as well as a number of draft beers. Really a wonderful contribution to the Stornoway dining scene! read more
