The actual food went back and forth between four stars and five stars (especially at this price point), as did the service. The drinks list was short, but well-thought-out including local whisky. We came here for a nice dinner out with our family of 4 (including two kids 8 and 11). The inside was finished with an interesting industrial chic with riveted, metal-topped tables with wrought iron supports and huge floor-to-ceiling windows looking out at Uig Bay with Uig Sands visible depending on the tide. A bit less than half the tables are actually against the window, so try to get one, but the view is good no matter what. The food is very good, but not quite top-tier tasting menu level. We got the seafood chowder, smoked salmon with cashews and toppings, pistachio crusted cod, and the scallops. The seafood chowder and scallops were both good, but didn't stand out in any spectacular way. The chowder was a bit overly salty. It also had mussels in it, which was a bit different. The scallops were well-cooked with crispy potatoes and a bit of kale, but mostly just well-done scallops. The cod coated in a crispy herb crust with pistachios and a pea risotto was truly different. The risotto tasted almost as though it had mint in it and the peas were just a tiny bit crisp and crunchy giving it texture to complement the flaky, but still moist fish. Probably the highlight of the meal. The smoked salmon with cashews and pickled vegetables and avocado cream was reminiscent of a tuna carpaccio, but with smoked salmon instead. Very different and locally inspired. Second best thing of the meal. The kid's menu was a really nice touch. The kids got a plain burger and penne pasta, which were both good. I really appreciated not having to find them something else to eat off the main menu. Dessert was similar to the rest of the meal. The pistachio cake with raspberry cream was excellent, dense and moist with different flavors. The coconut ice cream with rice "donuts" were different, but too sweet for me. The donuts were basically rice pudding deep fried and dusted with sugar, but the roasted pineapple and super-sweet syrup pushed it too sweet. The kid's got salted caramel and dark chocolate parfait (really ice cream) with a brownie. It was also excellent, but they didn't love the salted caramel. Drinks-wise they had a decent selection of local whisky as well as wines (mostly by the bottle). We enjoyed an Argentinian Malbec which was light enough to pair with the seafood.
