The first (unqualified) subcontractor was hired to tear apart and rebuild an 800 sqft deck. It was a one-man show that was not informed of my specifications and refused to get additional help for a job this big. When he thought the job was done, he took pictures because he said Pico blamed him for another project and didn't pay him. He then became MIA and was let go as a sub for Pico. The deck had to be re-done due to shoddy workmanship, and it took over a week to get a response from Pico about what happened. Wes was nonexistent during the project and left everything to a project manager who was just a go-between. I became the PM and had to oversee all aspects of the job discussed but never communicated to the next crew. I was presented, after the fact, with change orders that were never discussed regarding price, which turned out to be over $4K more than agreed upon. I was threatened by their lawyer with a lien but did not cave to their scare tactics. I sent a "settlement" check with full documentation of what I thought was reasonable, and hopefully, Pico paid a good sum for their lawyer since they agreed and are cashing the check.
