I was in the market for a project vehicle. While driving by I saw a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport…read more A friend of mine had suggested that this was a good vehicle for the project I was working on and I decided to swing by and check it out. It had just over 130,000 miles on it, Not bad for an 11 year old vehicle. I test drove it and everything seemed fine so I was ready to talk some numbers. The salesman told me the vehicle financed for $11,950 with a down payment of $500 if I brought in a case of canned goods ($800 sans the tinned veggies). Not being one to jump into important purchases without doing thorough research I took a couple days to research the vehicle. I looked at the KBB value of the vehicle which pegged it between $6,000-$7,500 based on a few different factors. Assuming a value of $7000. This lot wanted to charge me an extra $5000 or 170+% of the vehicle's actual value. Further more the salesman told me the payments would have been about $350 for a period of 2 years. "we do a two year note" he said. But by my calculations to pay off the balance in that 2 year time frame would have required a monthly payment of $477 a significant increase compared to the $350 I was originally quoted. When I confronted the salesman a few days later he defended his companies pricing by saying that the warranty on the vehicles and their customer base's propensity to not pay their note was the reason for the high cost of the vehicle financed. When i inquired about the difference in payment quote vs my calculations he adjusted his note time frame to two and a half years. (Close but it would actually be about 33 Months at a $350 a month payment.) Perhaps I'm daft but $5000 is too much to pay for a warranty and to make up for other's inability or unwillingness to re-pay. One could purchase a 2nd car for that amount of money. I asked a cash price for the vehicle and another salesman stepped in and quoted a price of about $8000, still $500-$1000 more than the vehicles actual value. Needless to say I drove off in the vehicle I had come to the lot in. I hope this review will allow those who consider doing business with Best Buy Here Pay Here in Joplin to go in armed with information that will allow them to defend themselves against unscrupulous business practices adhered to by this and many other "buy her pay here" car dealers. I realize that as we come out of an economic recession many are left with fewer options when it comes to financing a vehicle, however being scammed at this level is an affront to the intelligence of the average person.

She claimed to be associated with the dealership (Byrider of Joplin) and was unable to answer any questions that I had for the vehicle. I should have known something was up since the advertisement said $299 down. I was required to provide the following information before a conversation would take place from Shara: Hello, We are off of E 20th St in Joplin. What you need to qualify is your 2 most recent pay stubs showing that you make a minimum of $1500 a month at your job, A piece of mail in your name within the last 30 days, and a valid driver license. If you have these things lets get you set up with an appointment. We are open M-F 9-7 and Sat 9-4. To get the process going quickly, I need your first and last name, email, and a working phone number. What day and time would be best for you to come in?... seems to me that I was getting pre-qualified just to get any information. My questions were: What is the price if this car? What is the mileage? Carfax? VIN?... even after a small back and forth, I still was unable to get the answers so I looked it up and this is what I found. Byrider on 20th street in Joplin has the vehicle. It is listed as a 2016 Chevy Spark Base on their website for just over $20,000. It has 57,500 miles on it. Ohh, by the way, they charge 21 % interest on the financing that they provide. When I looked the vehicle up online to determine the value, I used nada, edmonds to come up with the absolute best price for the top 2% of vehicle in our area. That price is $13,000 retail at a dealership. Furthermore, a large dealership here in our local area 2021 Spark with under 16,000 miles for $15,500 and nowhere near the same interest rate. To me, in my opinion, thus is the perfect example of predatory lending on people. I appreciate a deal making a profit and free enterprise however, this is simply wrong. Ohh... Shara, the one on Facebook marketplace, she blocked me for this statement: There is no need to become personal. If you don't have the answers for a customer (me), then why respond until you have them? However, thank you for, at the very least, providing me with the dealerships information. Based on the price of the vehicle versus the book value, it looks like predatory lending to me. Again... just my opinion about a business. All I can really say is this, be very carefully when you used a dealership like this. READ EVERYTHING, take the paperwork home and think, review, talk to someone else that you trust BEFORE you sign anything. If you think you have a good deal then by all means, enjoy, but I bet someone not involved with the deal will advise you to show somewhere else. I would suggest this to everyone... go to your bank, talk to a loan officer to determine what you can really afford and secure what you can actually do monthly BEFORE you show for a vehicle. That gives you purchase power to a degree but at least you know what you can do and still make it rather than struggle to the point that most deals at places like a buy here pay here end up hurting you and not the dealership.

My wife and I decided to go here and it was a mistake. We were desperately in need of a car and…read morethey gave us one for $500. This was the biggest mistake we have ever made. Within 6 hours of getting this car the transmission went out. They took it to the shop to fix it almost a week ago and they have done nothing for us. First they tell us it should be done on Thursday or Friday. Now when the day comes they say maybe it will be Tuesday. Oh and that if our first payment comes around before it's fixed we will have to make our payment before we can get the car. Obviously this was upsetting since we have spent around $100 for Ubers and rides to work so my wife talked to the manager(apparently also their "hr" as well). This was even more useless because he had the fucking nerve to say "I swear this is causing probably not as much stress as it is to you, but it's a lot of stress on me to" like he has any idea what we are going through. We are both about to lose our jobs because we can't get the car we paid for or some kind of assistance for giving us a worthless car. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Terrible service, terrible people, terrible cars. Update: So before we finally got the car the "HR Rep", Chance, tried you tell us that he was going to give us money out of his personal bank account but because I made this review he has changed his mind. We finally got the death trap of a car back tho. It does randomly while driving. They tried to say the battery was loose but luckily we had a friend that knew cars better than we did because there was so much more wrong. He went in with my wife and it was insane how rude Chance was. He constantly tries to brush off my wife like she doesn't matter but our friend made sure it wouldn't happen. He made it a point to question Chance about the situation and Chance is saying he can't give us a new car, can't give us our money back, and can't help us with the situation. Chance and our friend both said that the car is unsafe to drive but Chance still said that we can take the car and bring it back in 2 days to get put in the shop(again with no compensation). This is just a crazy endeavor and it's beyond me how someone can be so ignorant and disrespectful. I will forever stand by my statement of "Terrible service, terrible people, terrible cars."
