Jessica Kae Photography - Father daughter first look

This review is so, so far overdue that I'm embarrassed, but I'm hoping better late than never! Let…read moreme tell you this: if you are looking at reviews for Jessica, look no further and BOOK. HER. TL;DR (kinda) is this - I had the following worries/asks and Jessica Kae Photography delivered: -Partner being nervous for photos -Need for tact with delicate family relationships -I love the detail/getting ready photos -Candid moments throughout the ceremony/reception Honestly, I was incredibly nervous with the thought of finding a photographer because my husband HATES pictures. For every prom/homecoming, picture-taking was alwayssss the biggest dread for him. He hates smiling on command, doesn't like feeling posed, and he doesn't like the feeling of being "forced" to capture a moment (and you didn't hear this from me, but sometimes he really doesn't have the best posed smile lololol). I'm also not much of a "selfie" person with him, so I was becoming nervous too. When reading Jessica's reviews, I saw a few women mention my exact same worry. Those customers said that Jessica has a magic touch, and their husbands didn't feel awkward or forced whatsoever - the pictures turned out beautifully! Based on this, plus a few other factors, I decided to move forward with Jess and Donny. Further details: I currently live in California, but I grew up in Hartville, OH which is about an hourish away from the Youngstown/Canfield area. My high school sweetheart proposed to me in 2019 and we were over the moon. We've always known that no matter where we ended up living, we would get married back home so our families would be able to attend. I started my search and am beyond thankful to have come across Jessica. She and her husband Donny are a dynamic duo! Their energies are so positive and fun, and they genuinely seemed excited for us even though we were meeting for the first time. They were a huge part in making our day flow incredibly smoothly. Each meeting we had left me feeling secure and confident in the plan. The pair are incredibly detailed, great with logistics, and genuinely interested in your love story so they ensure they capture it through the photos. Another important note: both of our parents are divorced, which came with some sensitive relationships to consider. Jess and Donny yet again made us feel relaxed about handling those interactions. They were attentive to our desires, captured all the getting ready details, helped keep everyone on schedule, and seriously were a huge part of the wonderful success of our special, beautiful day. I'm forever grateful to these wonderful people!!

Wow! Larry Spencer was absolutely amazing. You get so much more than what you pay for when you work…read morewith Larry. He was worth every penny (and then some). He spends hours with you in consultation so that he gets the exact look that you want. He did our engagement pictures, my solo bridal shoot just days before the wedding, and our wedding pictures. The photos are absolutely stunning. He just captured the emotion of the day so well. He truly is an artist and he has mastered this craft. I have had countless family members and friends ask who did our photography because they are so impressed by his work. Not only is his work beautiful, but he is great to work with. His presence just puts you at ease. He will hustle to get the perfect shot (including taking pics in the pouring rain, laying on the ground, in the middle of the street). He helped us develop our day-of timeline which made the day go smoothly. He is quick with communication and he was able to get us all of our wedding photos just 1 week after the wedding, which is unheard of in this line of work. I could not recommend him more highly. Thank you, Larry, for capturing the memories which we will take with us for the rest of our lives.

It has been a year and a half since my daughter's wedding and I still can't get past the fact that…read morethis photographer did not take ANY pics of the immediate family. In fact I had to search carefully to find a photo of my son in the over 1400 pics he took. There were no close ups of the bride and groom. Yes, that was a lot of pics, but who needs 10 pics of a bridesmaid wiping a tear? Or 8 pics of the bride's veil blowing in the wind? I took better pics myself! Oh, and we were in the receiving line for an hour and not one picture of it! When I let Michael Stephen know how disappointed I was, he asked if there was anything he could do to make it up to us. How can you make up the fact that you can never have that moment back? I said I guess he could give my daughter a free album, as the $2500 we paid him up front only covered the rights to the images not an album. We would have to dish out several thousand more for an album . He said he could never do that. He was very irked that I even asked as we had had the service of 2 professional photographers with over 30 years experience! (That much experience and they still did not know to take a family pic!) I would have reminded them that day but I sort of had my mind on a thousand other things--that is why we wanted a good photographer--my daughter's number one priority! We ended up getting an album online. It's too bad that Michael didn't realize that I still have 2 sons to get married yet--and no way will I ever hire him again. My daughter just had a baby girl and there will be no baby photos by him! By the way he gets angry if you critique him, so he probably will not be too happy over this--I guess we're even then as I was not too happy with his work.

For my wedding reception, Michael Stephen did show up on time, he took a lot of photos, and the…read morephotos he took were of very good quality regarding all of the technical things about photography. Other aspects of the experience were very negative for us. Here's the short version: Issue 1 - Michael Stephen does not work off of requests, not even from the bride (so if you don't have a specific idea of what you want for your photos and aren't worried about getting photos of your guests you could potentially have a good experience with him). Issue 2 - Michael Stephen actually started a conversation by yelling at me before he heard from me about what I wanted to talk about. Issue 1. We'd already had a destination wedding, so the focus of our Ohio reception was the family and friends joining us. I was really looking forward to getting lots of photos of me, my husband, and/or my parents with our guests, lots of small group photos of me & my college friends, my husband and I with our grad school friends, etc. that would combine into an album full of happy people, smiling for the camera, comprising a collection of everybody who flew from all over the country to celebrate with us that day. Prior to the big day, I asked MS if we should discuss what's important to us for the reception (as the videographer, dj, bakers, event planners, etc. insisted on doing to make sure our reception was everything we wanted) but MS said that he never works off of requests, and assurred me that he would capture everything. We only had about 90 guests at a 5-hour reception, so it should work out for him to get plenty of photos of us with our beloved family and friends, right? Wrong! Outside of photos of the bridal party and parents, there were only 4 shots of me, my husband, and/or my parents with one or a few our guests smiling for the camera (i.e. the kind of picture that I wanted). Michael Stephen did take 33 pictures of line dancing, 2 pictures of the dj, a few pictures of people talking to the videographer (but wasn't the videographer already getting that - on video?), and lots of pictures of people standing around, often with their backs to the camera, not really smiling. If we considered these to be photos of the guests (which, of course, they technically are), there were still no photos of about half of the guests. I know that not everyone has the same idea in mind as me of what they want for wedding reception photos, but it just seems like a huge waste for this guy to take over 700 pictures and only get 4 that are what I am looking for! This breakdown in communication seems completely unnecessary, especially since I requested that we review what my preferences are regarding photography. Issue 2. I called Michael Stephen in hopes that he had more pictures not posted online. I spoke with his receptionist and told her that there was a lot missing (e.g. 40 guests) and she passed the message on to MS. When we spoke on the phone, he raised his voice and stated that he is personally offended when someone doesn't like his work. He described how "lucky you were to have me as your photographer", about how he has 31 years of experience, about how the other photographers in town are not good, and that "I had better things to take pictures of than Uncle Joe eating his spaghetti!" (Fyi, I don't have an Uncle Joe and we didn't serve spaghetti.) The fact that he responded to my concerns by yelling at me was the biggest negative for me in my experience with him. Communication problems happen and can be overcome, but I have never heard of a business owner yelling at a customer!!!
