Very reputable business. My family has been in the automotive business since 1972. My father used Bob's Automotive Machine since then. When my father passed in 1989, and I inherited the family business I used Bob's Automotive Machine exclusively ever since. I've never had any problems with their services. The Automotive Performance / Racing industry, is full of too many so called "Experts", "Computer Keyboard Forum Readers" and "magazine readers," who have limited knowledge of what it really takes to match parts and make a Performance / Racing engine make power and survive. Personally, being in the industry for 46 years I know too well how customers may want to salvage destroyed parts, buy their own mix match of parts, and want you to machine and cobble it together, expecting the same results that professionals achieve. That's a fallacy and a Unicorn that does not exist. In this industry knowledge, right tooling, right parts and experience are what set records and win races, that is done through years of testing and R&D, that's what Bob's brings to the table. Bob's has been in business before we were and has always been reliable and knowledgeable. His experience and knowledge are unmatched, furthermore he stands behind his workmanship and product. DONT LET HIM TOUCH YOUR MOTOR!!! This guys is a complete arrogant douche bag who thinks he knows best. He's a complete has been who knows nothing. I had him sleeve a K20 block for me back in the 2003 time frame. First we had discussed this build numerous times face to face. So after talking to him 2 or 3 times face to face for 30 minutes at a time the day I show up with the block to be sleeved I was trying to get some clarification on tolerances for the pistons and bearings and he happens to comment something like "maybe you should think about turbocharging this thing instead of going all motor". I was like wtf??? All motor??? All the times I have talked to you I never even once mentioned going with an all motor build. At that point I already had the turbo kit sitting in my garage. He proceeded to curse me out and tell me I'm losing my mind because he swore I had only discussed an all motor build with him. Honestly that was the first warning sign of the massive headaches and expenses ahead. My stock crank was damaged so he ordered another ($900), back then the Internet wasn't so useful so I didn't know the part number and he told me he could find it out for me. After I dropped off my motor a few weeks later he called me up and told me he had the wrong crank for the car and only noticed after he had balanced the rotating assembly, he ordered a H22 crank not a k20 crank. Then a few weeks later that was sorted out at my expense (of course) a new crank was ordered and he told me to come pick up the bottom end. I got lucky Honda let me return that crank and put the credit towards the purchase of the correct crank but he charged me for balancing the rotating assembly twice as if I made the mistake. I could see instantly with my naked eye the one of the sleeves was off by a tiny bit. He swore up and down that I didn't know what I was saying and he assured me it will function as promised. So I had the shop put the car back together and immediately it was smoking. It was a white smoke so I knew it wasn't oil. A drive the car for about 500 miles of easy driving. Then I took the car back to the shop and we drained the oil, no surprise we can easily see their is coolant mixed in with the oil. I proceeded to drive the car over to bobs shop so he could see it for himself. He swore up and down that no matter the near constant trail of white smoke I had no idea what I'm talking about and he blew me off. I told him a reputable race shop agrees with everything I say and he's flat out refusing to take responsibility for his fuck ups. In the end I had the shop pull the motor again at my expense and send the block out to be tested by a third party. Results came back showing 3 of the 4 sleeves were leaking and one of the cylinder walls already showed excessive signs of wear with only 500 easy miles on the motor. I then went back to bob with these results and simply asked for a refund of all my machining expenses he charged me plus $300 for a spare k20 block which was the going rate back then for a bare k20 block. Even if I got what I asked for back I would still be out thousands of dollars for a completely unnecessary tear down and assembly. Once again he started cursing me out and saying I had no idea what I was talking about and he refused to give me a refund. So I was out the cost of a good K20 block a couple thousand dollars for sleeving and machining it, and a couple thousand for an unnecessary removal and installation of a motor plus the cost of dissecting the problem. He was an old asshole even back then and he might even be dead by now and someone else may run that shop but if he isn't I sure hope he dies soon and painfully.
