The Escape Lounge is small and waits can be long. When departing, use Clear and TSAPreCheck - much faster than just TSAPreCheck. This airport has clearly marked signs and the rideshare area is organized. It's across from baggage in the garage so you've not exposed in the elements and it looks easy for the drivers to get in and out. Plus they can pull into a stall vs having to pull up to a curb. It's a more pleasant experience overall for everyone.

We rarely make it down to Miami for a flight, but West Palm is usually worth going north to that airport for a flight. We planned a weekend trip to New York last month and with a bit cross checking, Palm Beach International Airport had the best flight based on flight time and cost. It is nice to be able to just walk into a airport that's not crazy at all. within minutes after walking in we are almost always gateside. They have a quick TSA area, and once by the gate there is always spot to grab a bite or drink. This last trip there was a open space bar in the middle of the rotunda where we could see our gate and about four others, so it was easy to time our check grab and getting in line for our flight. We generally fly out of Fort Lauderdale, but when its close to a tie which to go with, we got Palm Beach.

Flying home, my flight was delayed but there were plenty of places to sit and I was able to use my laptop and charge my phones. There were places to eat and drink, as well as newsstands for snacks and sundries. Not a ton of options, but plenty if you're there for just a brief time. I can't fault it. If visiting Florida is your thing, this is a good gateway.

The TSA staff in particular have consistently come across as rude, short-tempered, and completely uninterested in basic customer service. On this trip, one agent gave me unnecessary attitude and I genuinely found myself wondering -- why are you so angry? If interacting with people makes you this unhappy, maybe customer-facing work isn't the best fit. And honestly, this experience feels reflective of Miami overall for me -- the energy often feels tense, impatient, and unnecessarily entitled. Travel is already stressful enough without being treated poorly for simply existing in the space. I'll do everything I can to avoid flying through this airport again.

As I enter the lobby area, it has a relaxed feels with a counter on each side with what appeared to be a couple of employees. As we were passing through, my pilot companion had to ask to be buzzed through. Oh yeah, security. This is good. ;-) The lobby area also had a small waiting area, a coffee station and a general clean feel. I don't have much experience in private terminals for comparison but this looked quite functional. Happy travel!

Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming as we waited for our plane. Beautiful waiting area with a variety of seating. I have been to fly out of here for brief flights typically taken by tourists over the beach. I had a few relatives that enjoyed adventurous activities. Once I was taken up in a helicopter. These kinds of experience are fine but I don't typically want to repeat them. I also have an Uncle that took lessons here and got his pilots license. Naturally I had to go for a fight with him. They did a lot of pilot training at North Perry. If I was so inclined and still lived nearby I would contact them. It's just an all around convenient airport to this area.

The airfield has four runways for light general aviation planes weighting less than 12,500 pounds . The airport is open 24 hours daily. Control towers 7am to 9 pm I took a small Cessna from this airport to Cedar key and back and it was a lot of fun

One of Miami-Dade County's general avaition airports, as well as the US Coast Guard's Air Station,…read moreI was at Opa Locka Airport this past Saturday for the MIA Runway 5K / 10K series along with a few friends from the gym & a running group I'm in. The airport itself is geared towards business & military. Besides the Coast Guard Air Station, there are at least 3 private aviation terminals - the FBO's Drake refers to in his magnum opus "Sicko Mode" (translation: terminals for private jets.) I also vaguely remember having been to an air show here back in 1988 when I was yay tall. Back to the present day, the Miami Dade Aviation Department hosted one of their "Runway 5K / 10K races " on one of the runways. I ran the 10K, keeping a 10:20 minute/mile pace. The race was run on the concrete runways and taxiways (the two loops). This was a perfectly smooth surface to run. There were various water stations along the course. A few things could have been improved. I saw pictures of last year's race and they had a few displays that let people get closer to the planes for photo opps. That would have been fun! Likewise, the post-race snack area was broken down between 5K and 10K. Even at the the 10K area, we were limited to just two items and they didn't have bananas (great for recovery.)

The garage parking is reasonably priced for long term parking and when crowded, the cement walkway from the garage is very easy to navigate by following the painted lines on the ground. Once inside the building terminal, the signage is very good and it is comfortable from the carpeted floors to the temperature of the a/c. There is the option of TSA, TSA-PRE, and, CLEAR lines to get through security. Once on the "other side", there are some private airline clubs, public sitting areas, and plenty of restaurants and bars to wait for the flight. Upon arrival, the directions are very clear on where to go for baggage claim, parking garage, and ride sharing locations. Exiting the airport is a little confusing as the lanes merge and drop off pretty quickly and the signage can come up very quickly for the east bound exit and the ramps for I595 westbound. To me this is an average sized airport that has convenient domestic and International flights.

For an airport this big, it doesn't overwhelm you like many large airports. It was easy to navigate, easy to give baggage claim and easy to meet my brother in law who was picking us up. The baggage claim area was spacious and not overly crowded, the concourse was wide and the signage was clear. Great arrival experience.
