I'm used to facials where there was product after product applied. This was definitely heavy on just the massage part. There was no introduction to the products used or what to expect either. At one point a stinging, smelly fermented product was applied that made my nose and eyes sting. A warning would be appreciated or even an option to omit since the product smelled rancid like old yeast. She was also pretty hasty with application of product and I think some product got into my eye as my eyes were irritated afterwards. The massage was also pretty strong (so not as relaxing) and she used a device to apply product that felt like it had a sharp edge that had me tense the whole time that she'd nick something. Usually after a facial at Yuan my face is feeling light but I didn't have the same lightness this time. Even when I was walking out her hand was on my arm touching me. If you're going for a facial I would not recommend Chau.

I've been to other Asian massage/reflexology places where I've received a much better massage, so it's likely just hit or miss based on who you get, but this place definitely charged more than the other places I've gone to. I called when they opened and was able to make an appointment for a 90-minute massage that same day, for the late afternoon. For the body massage, you're in a private room and can strip down. However, they also offer foot massages in their main room in a shared space. My masseuse was Jeff and he was very, very good! I lift weights and box everyday, so my muscles are always really sore. Therefore, I really needed a deep tissue massage to get some blood flowing to my muscles and help loosen up. Before Jeff began he asked what level of firmness I wanted and he made sure throughout the entire time I was okay with the pressure. It was definitely what I needed. With COVID-19, all staff were wearing masks and in the private room, the client does not have to wear a mask since they're mostly face down on the massage table. But everything was very clean and they change the sheets and blankets as soon as the client leaves the room.
