Nicki is truly the best of the best. I tried massage, yoga, chiropractic and acupuncture for my lower back pain and felt minimal relief after months (and sometimes years!) Within TWO sessions with Nicki (I'm still blown away by this) my pain had reduced by 80%. And hasn't come back to where it was at all. After five visits and following PT recommendations and exercises with Nicki at Body Mechanix, I'm seeing improvement in my neck-and-shoulder impingement. The best in physical therapy! I used to deliver her mail (USPS), and so after one bad physical therapy experience, I tried Nicki because of proximity and having heard good things over the years. I saw her for my "separated shoulder" and literally felt MUCH better the next day after days of pain and aching. Obviously I was not fixed in a day, but to see noticeable results overnight was enough for me. The progress I saw with weekly appts and sticking to my recommended stretches (no matter how much I didn't want to) resulted in my shoulder feeling as good as new. I've since gone to her for back issues, and same results, WAY BETTER recovery after an appt than days prior without any help. Please do your mind, body, and soul the honor of relinquishing any preconceived or learned notions that having a physical therapist should solely be a curative option, and not also a preventative one. While in session with Nicki, she begins her practice by facilitating a mind-connection through thoughtful and intellectual dialogue, and follows this by channeling a body-connection through energy and Reiki healing. This, in summation, is what Nicki does in her practice; yet the true healing process that results from her sessions is a masterpiece beyond the grasp of my personal lexicon. Now, for myself, for Nicki, and for those who want to read, here is my original review: In my attempts to properly encapsulate the profound influence that Nicki McDaniel has had on my life, I sought out the aid of my "aspirational library." In the Awakening, Kate Chopin boldly wrote of a woman who had "perceived that her will had blazed up, stubborn and resistant. She could not... have done other than denied and resisted... She could not realize why or how she should have yielded." At the age of nineteen, two years following my introduction to Chopin's world, I was fortunate enough to learn of the power within the things we feel resistant toward. Through a series of seminars, I learned that in the moments where we feel resistance, there is a signal that relays a message--resistance precedes an opportunity to grow. Opening and responding to this message is always a choice, one that is often made when certain aspects of the nervous system are aligned. While functioning in the sympathetic nervous system, it is natural to respond to a message through a modality of fight-or-flight. While functioning in the parasympathetic nervous system, it is natural to respond to a message through a modality of being quiet, of being still, of being within one's self, opposed to being outside of one's self and looking within. This state of being exists when one is able to adjust and remove interference from the nervous system through healing methods, i.e., physical therapy and reiki. This knowledge aided in rekindling my fiery and stubborn demeanor, while also helping to nurture my longing for solutions to the chronic conditions I was experiencing at such a young age. Eckhart Tolle, in the Power of Now, aptly states how "it seems that most people need to experience a great deal of suffering before they will relinquish resistance." I can attest to two things: I have experienced a great deal of suffering, and it was when I relinquished my resistance toward naturopathic healing, I was finally able to find Nicki, allowing myself to begin my true healing journey. "Stressful thoughts reflect a conflict with reality. Stress happens when the mind resists what is." Within the Way of the Peaceful Warrior, Dan Millman provides a reminder that our mind and our body are constantly sending us signals--of joy, of fear, of hope--and we are only able to truly adapt to reality when we have an awareness of these signals. The disciplined mental and physical practices that Nicki taught me helped guide me in connecting my mind with my body so that I may listen and respond to sensations I experience. Three months ago marked three years from the day I first crossed the threshold into Nicki's office. The initial moments of our first ninety-minute session together cultivated a feeling of resistance more powerful than I had felt before. Fortunately, for me, this sensation was welcomed and encouraged by my prior teachings that with resistance comes growth. Following our first session, I left with a list of books to add to my library, a recommendation to find them at the New Renaissance Bookshop, and a desire to immediately take off on my adventure. Nicki is a gifted, compassionate and wise healer. She has helped me with a leg injury which stopped me from running. I thought it was a much more serious injury and would probably need intensive (maybe surgery) treatment. She helped me fix it with just a few sessions. Fast forward to back pain (less serious but still painful) and she did the same thing. Nicki also doesn't preach or judge but listens and helps you get to be where you want. I went to Nicki for a potentially torn miniscus and pretty constant knee pain. Nicki's office was comfortable and cozy and she took my athletic background into consideration when we talked about the problems I was having. Our appointments were a combination of her doing "body work" and educating me on why I was having the problems I was and what exercises and habits I could implement at home to help. When I admitted to her that I hadn't been great about doing the exercises at home, she didn't make me feel guilty like a lot of physical therapy places have in the past. Her whole approach was really supportive. She also initially told me that some people see a lot of improvement after just the first visit and I was skeptical, but to my surprise it was totally true!! I was a bit sore the first day after, but that passed and I noticed significant improvement. I will definitely go back for any future problems I'm having. read more

This has been my second attempt at physical therapy for the same sneaky hip issue, and I gotta say, it has been so much more helpful to be working with Nicki rather than your typical sports-focused physical therapist. She has helped me take a holistic look at my body and make small day-to-day changes that have really helped. She has also been very patient with me and taught me to be patient with my body. Instead of loading on a routine of stretches and strengthening exercises, we started slow with a few things at a time and worked on my conscientious positioning when I am doing things like driving, walking, working, etc.. It has been so much more manageable and I am truly grateful! On top of that her energy and attention have been so refreshing- I look forward to my appointments every week! I was diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis 6 years ago and have had two surgeries due to the endo and a variety of daily symptoms living with chronic pain, both physical and emotional. I've seen just about every doctor, naturopath and tried every treatment for both the endo and post surgery complications. I discovered I needed pelvic floor physical therapy and my OB referred me to Nicki. After just 4 appointments I feel a drastic difference in the consistency of pain in my pelvic floor and in my legs. My visits with Nicki have also lended to my emotional and energetic healing journey. The amount of layered holistic treatment on all levels has been instrumental in giving me hope for the future that I don't need to live in this pain 24/7.
