When I arrived there was a security guard outside who assisted me in and unlocked the front door for me, I guess they must get a lot of activists. Lucky for the big street number on the wall otherwise from the outside you would have no idea what the building was for The staff was extremely friendly and non-judgmental. The process went swiftly, I was required to provide a urine sample, sign a few docs, and then into the theater I go. There was a nurse and a doctor that performed the insertion for me, the nurse holds your arm down while the doc performs. Once I was done, they offered me to stay/sit for a while and help myself to drink and food. Overall it was a very casual and stress free experience, there were a lot more patients then I expected (partners are welcome to come along for support). When I was finished the lady offered me the choice of leaving via their secret back door, to avoid the protesters at the front door (but I didn't see any on my way in or when I left). Although I was only here for a minor implanon procedure, if I ever need an abortion this place would be the first to spring to mind.

Barbara Breadon's dermatology rooms in Clifton Hill make the whole process a lot less painful, even - dare I say it - a pretty nice experience. It's beautifully decorated, which shouldn't make a difference, but in reality makes it feel much more pleasant - more like a high-end beauty clinic than a dermatologist's office. They do have a really great offering of cosmetic dermatology treatments, like steam and extraction, IPL hair removal, and laser treatments for benign moles, but first and foremost they are excellent, professional, doctors. I saw Dr Shayamalar Gunatheesan for a very pedestrian check-up, however she could not have been more lovely, reassuring, informative and thorough. I left feeling happy and looked-after, which is about all you can ask from an appointment with a doctor. They don't bulk bill and do cost about the same as any other specialist, but if you do have to go, I think this is a nicer experience than most. Highly recommend this clinic and will be returning if needed.

The reception staff have always been nothing short of delightful, efficient and friendly. I like that you can see a GP, or see someone who specialises in more nutrition / health based solutions or "wellness" as they call it. The GPs costs are about normal for a GP for my experience and you can get in straight away, and for a specialised "wellness" GP session, it costs more and there is a few weeks wait when I tried to get an appointment for this service. I read a few books and diet based approaches to neurological problems and it is fantastic to have a GP who is educated in these 'natural based' preventions that I can talk to about this.

I have been going here for about 6 years so I have seen a few doctors at this practice. I prefer to stick with one when possible but sometimes schedules and urgent issues don't allow that. The doctors (Dr Oh, Dr Khoo, Dr Civitico) I have seen are all very good. They provide thoroughness and consistency that you just don't get at the big commercial chain practices. They do charge above the Medicare fee and ask you to pay the entire fee up front but they do forward the details to Medicare on your behalf for reimbursement directly from medicare for the standard amount. They have an onsite collection centre for HealthScope pathology so you can one stop shop if needed.

I mean, she's fantastic and I happily recommend her to people, but can you really get excited about a medical clinic? On reflection though, I found that it's possible to think about your experiences in that place to date and realise you have very little to fault. I see two doctors at this clinic - Dr Trish Civitico and Dr Graeme Edwards. Both are great! Whilst Collins Place does bulk bill, a regular appointment will still need you to pay a certain amount over and above that. After your Medicare rebate, it works out to be about $15. They do however bulk bill vaccinations and the full cost is covered. I started going to CPMC when I worked across the road... and whilst I no longer work there, I still make the trip into the city because the experience here is consistently great... and when you're sick, you want consistency and predictability, right?
