And wow, it's hard work. I've discovered that personal training is most definitely not for the faint of heart. Usually my gym sessions would last no longer than thirty minutes. This would include a leisurely fifteen minutes on the bike and another fifteen attempting to work the machines. With a trainer my lackluster routine this has been transformed into an hours hardcore exercise. There is absolutely no way you can get away with slacking off, no sneaky under-performing. They will catch you. The Trewhealth trainers are seriously good at thier job. I've found myself in pain for days after my twice weekly sessions. But god I feel good. If you can handle the pain, I really recommended it.

Re-Creation is a fairly large facility with three studios, spin room, stretch room, cardio area, weights area and creche. The equipment and layout is updated regularly. It can get fairly busy at peak times but there seems to be plenty of equipment to go round. There are lots of steppers and treadmills - which have a view out the window. Staff are friendly and not 'meat heads' like some places. Recently converted to 24/7 operation with members able to access the facilities outside of staffed times using a keyfob (available at additional cost).

The layout of he gym seems to be a poor use of the space. The weights area is right in the middle of the club and is quite large, with the cardio machines being up the stairs and off to the side making them all a little too squashed together. They do however offer a very large range of classes and with three studio rooms there is always something on from beginners pilates to advanced spin cycle classes. Re-Creation also have personal training available, both male and female trainers at varying packages depending on session length and frequency.

They got a huge apparel range from shirts & shorts, to caps & belts & to many other accesories to list. I'm not a member myself but when i do train here i just pay the casual visit fee which is only $10 which is super cheap for what the majority of gyms would charge for a casual visit!! Upon the Entry they have a hair dresser to the left & a healthy cafe to your right for all your smoothies, coffees & meals. Also have a variety of Frozen meals for sale at Dohertys reception. Also the 2 best parts about this place is that it's practically in the heart of the city & its open 24/7 no excuses :)!!!

I called around to compare offers and prices and decided on Yarra city council for the following reasons: - A variety of group classes are offered throughout the day, 7 days per week. - Low cost. The cost of a 20 session pass for a student works out just over $5 per session - Session passes can be used at all Yarra city leisure centres (Burnley, Collingwood, Fitzroy and Richmond). - Low commitment. There is no obligation to become a member. - Friendly community minded instructors. - Plenty of parking. While the interior of the leisure centre is not as modern colourful as newer fitness centres, the well maintained gardens add to the attraction of the centre.

We call it the "Fitzroy beach" because the vibe is so chill, and everyone comes out to play! Collingwood - new 50m indoor pool, and good group exercise class facilities. Richmond - the best and largest gym of the three. Good indoor 50m pool, with hot tubs, sauna and steam rooms. Most group exercise is in a great upstairs studio space. But beware classes held in the creche area, it's small and cramped, with no mirrors. I'm a big fan, love the flexibility of going to each centre and the Les Mills instructors are great.

There are lots of torture devices to put you through your paces like the sled, the dreaded air dyne watt bike, TRX, kettle bells galore, dead balls, boxes, med balls, Olympic Rings, battle ropes, boxing bags...the list goes on and on.... You book online for classes via MindBody Connect (download that app - it's great to find new fitness places) and they offer a 4-week unlimited classes deal to get you started for $129. Then they have other membership options from weekly unlimited direct debits to casual classes. It's pretty flexible which is essential these days. Though the training is group based, the trainer Angela manages to cater to everyone's individual goals using the wide variety of equipment available. Note that this is not a standard gym, and offers classes only, but it's also enjoyable to have a social aspect to your workout. The equipment is all new and top notch, with punching bag, exercise bikes, rowing machine, stepper, elliptical, treadmill, power rack, bench and a variety of dumbbells, barbells and kettlebells. Can't recommend this place highly enough, not just because the price is excellent, but also because the people who work here are so friendly and great at their job.
